It's so funny that most of these comments are saying Grandpa couldn't get out of bed to get a job, but could get up and dance because of something special that he would love. What people don't realize is that Joe here did get a job a few years later and owns a garage in an East Los Angeles barrio.
Fun fact: The guy who played Grandpa George actually fought for Germany in WW1 and he was blinded by poison gas during the Great War which is why he wears thick glasses.
Give this version some credit, at least Grandpa Joe struggled to stay up at first. In the book and the 2005 movie, he just jumped out of bed like it was nothing.
Yea, well, it's all fun & games til YOU'RE the only one cleaning the bed pans & spitoons, when YOU'RE older than all of 'em & you threw out your back flinging all their empty whiskey bottles in the wastecan. Don't mistake my kindness for weakness; MOVE TF OVER; I'M gettin in that bed!!!!😂😂
wait in like 2 minutes in looks like he got one of those gross like old fashioned pot things u pics in that’s so gross tho but better than pissing the bed I guess
My mom was two years old when Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory came out, so she grew up watching this, and I also watched this during my childhood, so this movie especially this song is SUPER nostalgic for me and my mom.
You mean to tell me, Grandpa joe was so stiff, and needed help even getting up because he'd been in that bed for 20 years?! Was he shitting and pissing in the bed, too?!?! How did they use the bathroom?! The crusty urine on his nighty gown is what made him so stiff? That charlie had to grab his legs, his slippers, and his cane!?!
Grandpa Joe gets a lot of hate, however people fail to realize: A) This film was based on a childrens book. Yes for adults it seems like Grandpa Joe feined illness to be lazy, I personally like to believe he just mentally gave up B) It was the mans lifelong dream to go to the factory. The remake film claims he worked for Wonka, which is not true in the book
I think that cane gave Grandpa Joe magical powers to get him walking again since he had been stuck in that bed for 20 years. He and Charlie made a great song and dance team in this scene.
Jack Albertson looks like Albert Einstein
Jonathan Funnell lol
Albertson Einstein
0:31 footage of me trying to get out of bed for work
I love the affection between Charlie and Grandpa Joe.
Agreed! Their friendship in both the movie versions and the book are the cutest and best thing ever!

They actually needed a laser pointer to direct him where to look.

Yeah people seem to not notice that every time they accuse him of faking it
RIP Jack Albertson 1907-1981 crazy Peter Ostrum is like 62 now. This movie is 49 years old now. Wow.

@@simbagillespie1887 yes, that's exactly what twenty years is...
He’s supposed to be 96 leave the old man alone
Absolutely classic movie. 52 years later, and it's still just as enjoyable.
The real fact is that the ticket was actually made of pure gold sheet
Jack Albertson, what an actor and singer. Very underated. Also in the Posiedon Adventure. Where he is fantastic.
Don't forget Chico And The Man. He made the role of Ed Brown truly believable, which no other actor could have done.

One of the greatest duets in musical cinema history.

0:41 Ahhhh the gold old days when I would help grandpa walk back home from the bar.
Great
My favorite song and scene in the good old Willy Wonka Movie
This was the last scene in the movie that showed the other three grandparents.

He got a magial thing called hope

MOM, HELP!
MOTHER!
Woah! There!
Funny how one goes from 2 decades bedridden to perfectly choreographed song and dance number.
