Photographing NASCAR at MIS Turn 1

  • Its always louder, more scary, and way more asphalt in your face than you can imagine or think it'd be. That's what I realized after photographing this year's LifeLock 400 NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway, through the precarious vantage point of a hole in the fence over the track's Turn 1. The cars speed under you at 180 some mph, 8-10 ft between you and them...
    Thanks to Cory Olsen of the Grand Rapids Press for filming me!

      What abt people who do work on high electric power supply stands around the world and cleaning the mirrors of outer layer of big towers and skyscrapers around the world..... Those are not easy works.... They are also scary by doing their work looking at down..... I think that's what real scary is..... Great comment to make my comment.... TQ...

    I'm curious how you get a official pass to do this, I usually sneak some shots at the race through those slots in the fence before someone yells at me to move and the photos turn out amazing, 1250 shutter on hyper speed contiunous

    With this footage you will know how fast they drive.
    but it doesn't like TV live footage, for example some people said that Blaise Alexander or Tony Roper or Dale Earnhardt could survive their crashes,
    no, they were false, if you watch a footage that is shot from fans, you will know how hard and fast they crashed.
    Dale Earnhardt, Tony Roper and Blaise Alexander died for a basilar skull ring fracture.
    these were why Dale Earnhardt, Blaise Alexander and Tony Roper were killed.

    I'm surprised this is allowed. I've been at tracks where they won't let your lens crest the edge of the track - all for safety. This guy could lose his head. But, I still wish I were him. ;-)

    Try behind the outside wall of Turn 1 at Phoenix, cars coming right at you at 160mph and many have wrecked right where the photo hole is! I take aim, press down on the shutter and duck down behind the wall hoping and praying for the best when I look at the images that night.

    That's all you see is a blur of color. The thing not mention is the noise - even with ear protection on it is painfully deafening. Shakes your whole body every time a car passes by.

    • @tf2whackyengineer
      @tf2whackyengineer 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      blanchae I went to a race without ear protection. It was a big mistake. :) I could hear the cars coming and I could hear them leave. The rest was "eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee." It's not even that ringing you get after something happens. It's just like my ears shut down entirely and weren't doing anything but going "eeee" until the cars left, then I could hear again.
      "Here they come" "Vrrroooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ mmmmmmmm." Next Lap, "Vrrooooo eeeeeeeeeeeeeee~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ mmmmmmmm"
      It was my first race, so next time I'm going to be some plugs and maybe some of my gun muffs.
