- Today, we went scuba diving in Kota Kinabalu with a diving company called Go Aquatic. Over the course of the day, we did three great dives and saw lots of cool animals!
Sea turtles, nudibranchs, triggerfish, jellies, clownfish, and more. Part of our day was spent on an island off the coast of Kota Kinabalu called Pulau Mamutik - where we had a great lunch.
The Mamutik Island was practically empty that day because of the coronavirus pandemic and the subsequent nosedive in tourism. A very large monitor lizard was taking advantage of the emptiness to roam around the island. It was quite cool to be there for that!
We really enjoyed our day with Go Aquatic. We paid, just like everyone else, but we want to recommend them because they are a fantastic group of people who really take good care of their divers. They also have a really nice boat!

ABOUT US
Michael and Halef live in Atlanta, GA, but are originally from Canada and Indonesia, respectively. They love to travel and try to do it as much as possible. They saved for a few years and are currently on a long-term round the world trip!
Well documented, thanks
Ohh yes!!! Here we are: this must be the famous video you were telling me about while you were still editing it.
Loved watching your adventure under the water... I wish so much I can dive in the same place where you have been!!!
By the way, on Monday I just did my theory exam for the first grade diving licence!!! I passed the exam!!!
Now, as soon as I will be again fit and strong ( I had 3 months of fever :( ) I will start again my practice lessons and will be able to dive again and do the practical exam. Suuuuuper excited!!!
Thank you for having given to me the opportunity of diving with you, trust me: it was something!!!
I also loved your soundtrack!!!
The swimming feather star!!!😱The razor fish! Moray eel! So much beautiful wildlife in one video. Incredible!
Yes!! Love those swimming feather star!
Love Kota Kinabalu Sabah Borneo. 👍👍👍👍👍
😀🇲🇾
that looks totally wonderful..lots of stuff you guys saw...awesome
Yup, we love scuba diving for sure!
Really cool video! It was neat to see the beautiful coral reefs and that they are taking care of them. The swimming feather star and the lizard were a nice surprise :)
Noodles for breakfast, an odd idea to April--but she can be persuaded! 😉 That feather star is SO cool! But where is Dory?? 😂 Y'all find out why the hump on the turtle's shell? The snowflake eel is my favorite of all eels; I have had them in my saltwater aquariums. Glad it was such a good day of diving for you
Oh noodle dishes are our favorite, and these Tuaran Mee dish was spectacular! Yup, we love scuba diving and always try to remember unique things on each dive, and this swimming feather star is definitely one of those features!
That's so cool that you have had saltwater aquarium - we volunteered at Georgia Aquarium as divers and always amazed the work and cost to maintain these guys.
I sure miss my aquariums...since I have down-sized and become a full-time RVer, that is the main thing I miss! At one point, I had about $25,000 in my 275 gallon reef tank. That's cool y'all volunteered there
Wow this is like in Finding Nemo!
Spectacular ❤️
For sure! Thanks for watching!
Such a wonderful adventure! Personally, I'm not a good swimmer, so I love to see virtual dive and enjoy underwater scenes. Thank you guys!
We love diving and we started to have a handful diving videos on our channel for sure - check out our other diving videos if you are interested.
Thanks for watching!
@@theRTWguys Definitely checking them out! Your new virtual diving friend and subscriber here!👋😊
I have my dive in Malaysia too. So enjoy and amazing miss my home town . From London
We dove in KK and Mabul (subsequent videos) and love all of our dives! Can't wait to be back again someday to explore more of Malaysia!
I saw yr last video in aitutaki, loved it😍👍
Oh, that's awesome, thank you for following along our journey :) Stay tuned for a few more of Sabah videos!
Really enjoyed your footage of underwater life, looks so alien. And you seem to know those species so well! I didn't had any idea what is what there. I made the dive only once on Bali at shipwreck at Tulamben and it made want to get PADI certificate. Well, some day after quarantine maybe...
I think you’re both right. The lizard looks like a komodo monitor, maybe? I did a project on them in 3rd grade. 😂
Wonderful dives! I hope to get some scuba diving completed in the future, as I’ve only been snorkeling in the past.
Oh, you should get your diving certification soon! Snorkeling is fun, but diving is 10x better, we think :)
Welcome to my city, I hope u enjoyed to be here. 😜👍
Thank you! This was filmed in early March, before the lockdown, and we stayed in KK for about two weeks :)
Welcome to kk.. 👍😊
did you guys ever find out what species that humpback turtle is? or is it just a mutant sea turtle

How much budget for dive in Kinabalu
Yes, we love Malaysia and can't wait to be back to explore more of Sabah!
I tried scuba diving for the first time in Kota Kinabalu. I failed
Only could do 5 metres
Any tips?
I felt like I was drowning; not from anxiety, but literally didn't have enough breath
I think one of my issues was the seal in the mouth, and not being able to coordinate breathing only from my mouth
:(
So sad, wasted 100 dollars
I'm sorry to hear that your first scuba diving experience didn't go as planned. It's not uncommon for people to face challenges when they try scuba diving for the first time, especially with breathing techniques and adjusting to the equipment. Here are a few tips that might help improve your experience in the future:
Relax and Breathe Slowly: One of the key aspects of scuba diving is to remain calm and relaxed. Slow, deep breaths are essential for conserving air and reducing the feeling of running out of breath.
Equalize Your Ears: As you descend, the pressure changes, and you'll need to equalize your ears to avoid discomfort. Pinch your nose and gently blow through it to equalize the pressure in your ears.
Focus on Your Breathing: Concentrate on your breathing rhythm. Inhale deeply and exhale slowly. Remember to breathe continuously and avoid holding your breath.
Practice Beforehand: You might want to practice breathing through a snorkel or regulator in a pool or shallow water before attempting a full scuba dive. This could help you get used to the sensation and coordination.
Communicate: If you're diving with an instructor or dive master, don't hesitate to communicate your concerns. They can offer guidance and assistance to make you feel more comfortable.
Consider a Refresher Course: If you decide to try scuba diving again, consider taking a refresher course. This can help you become more comfortable with the equipment and techniques.
Try Snorkeling First: If the idea of using a regulator is challenging, you could try snorkeling first. This can help you become comfortable with breathing through a snorkel before progressing to scuba diving.
Remember that scuba diving is a skill that takes practice and time to master. Don't be discouraged by your first experience. With proper training and preparation, you might find that your next dive is a much more enjoyable and successful one.
@@theRTWguys Thank you so much :)
Since this post I had another scuba diving experience.
I was much better this time but still had breathing issue
This time i figured out its because i have a beard, and hence the seal is poor.
Is there a way to overcome this?
Do we put vaseline cream around the seal part?
