- Getting a hood that clears the Viper V10 has been one of those unknowns that we've been avoiding. Today we find out if the hood we picked out will actually fit! Also our custom aluminum oil pan came back from the fabricator so we test fit that guy on the engine too.

The only thing I don't like is that they kinda force the 10 min mark each time. Other than that, I love these. Maybe if they would be 2 mins more... And not so on mark of the 10 min (as I feel some content is stretched )
That’s a good point. We aim for 10 because we feel it’s not too long, not to short
I say this because I hope the build goes well. You NEED an oil accumulator if you are going to change the oil limit in the pan. They are super cheap insurance for such an expensive motor, and the baffles in the pan won't allow much g's in their current state. Another benefit is that it reduces overall engine wear over time. Great Episode!

Poster putty is also a really easy way to check clearances if you cant reach your hand in a specific area. Form it to the thickness of the clearance measurement you are looking for and stick it on your points of concern and you can see how much it squishes

Hopefully your family has connections to some industries in your area so you can get a good job because the price of the FD RX-7 have gone through the roof. Good examples are going for nearly $40k if they run and untouched stock examples are up to $60k. That's in USD for the US left-hand drive models. Prices in other regions may not be as extreme. Still cheaper than a Mk. 4 Supra and loads cheaper than any 1st gen or face-lifted NSX, but the prices just keep going up as more and more of these cars leave the market into collections, scrapyards, or get modified so excessively that they are no longer any use to anyone else. When I was 14 back in 2006 the price of a 1st gen NSX (my dream car) was around $45k if you were okay with an automatic and around $60k for a manual. They are now around $100k for an automatic and $125k for a manual. Unless a company out there decides to remanufacture the shell, I don't think I'll ever get a chance to own one at the current market rates.

About connections my dad owns a small company with vehicle imports and exports sometimes also more exotic vehicles and I could look in the future if it’s able that way. Otherwise my first car I’m getting is a Miata from my grandma drove her a couple times runs beautiful. But yeah the rx7 is just a big dream I want to archive at some point in my life but for now I’m going with basic cars does the job to

That looks really good. Not a huge fan of obnoxious CF hoods but this car kinda needs it and I think it will suit the character of the final product. How many other HUGE hurdles do you have to get over? It seems as though you have covered most of the big show stoppers at this point.
Ya we really need that bump. We will be painting it tho! Biggest project now is paint. Then just assembly, engine connections, interior. We’re practically already done 😂😂
Aww, you should have just reused those pins. Aerocatch are good but those hood pins are much better(depending on your preference) they use a ball socket instead of a straight pin, also their clamp load, aka holding power is very high. Also releasing them is easy peasy. You could have simply ordered new pins from the company. They also make them with locks

It is a big bump but its the right choice. I couldn't be happier to be totally wrong about fitment here. Maybe you can do some work to the bumper to get the hood hump to settle down?

I plan on viper swapping my brz glad to see I'm not the only one swapping a huge engine into a little car 😅
Woah that will be cool! My one word of advice is make sure to research if your donor drivetrain uses a CanBus ECU or not. Like half of the viper years and most of the srt-10 trucks did and it’s almost impossible to use the factory ecu in that case, and the only aftermarket viper ECU’s are like $7500. I almost learned that the hard way!

Yeah it's one of the less obnoxious bulgy hoods for sure! it helps that the cowl is curved and not the classic sharp angle cowl hood

I know it's a subjective thing, but I hate that hood. If the transition had been more gradual of a swell then I wouldn't have much of an issue with it, but to just bulge out with that kind of immediacy as you travel back is just not my thing. Well, a hood would be a fairly trivial thing to replace in the future if you find one that still fits but suits the car better. At least you got something to cover the engine bay.
Yeah not my top pick but it beats just cutting a hole out of the hood or trying to build something any nicer

In Alberta Canada, when first insuring a car it needs an inspection. Beyond that you can do as you please.
