      Some people just have the opportunity to do such things. I work an 8-5 job, Mon-Fri, and play lots of games in my free time. I know an ex-army, retired older man that was wounded and ended up in a wheelchair that can sit in games, online, almost constantly. They're not always obese no-lifes eating cream cheese in their mother's basements; sometimes they work from home, other times they're retired and have too much free time... sometimes, ofc, they're strange people in basements... just not as often as it would seem.

      I call them semi-hardcore. You know what the screen is telling you, you know things like BiS systems and the like and you enjoy everything in the game, or at least something that brings you back. Let's say you can finish the extremes in FFXIV without desyncing. You know what to expect, you fight well, etc, etc. You come out on top in the end. Some of us know openers, some of us are drifters, going from job to job (or class to class) playing it and enjoying it and swapping if we find something else we like to play. We lay betwixt the casuals and the hardcore. We know some faces, some voices, but not all. I mean, FFS, I actually know JoCat from his Crap Guide to X weapon in Monster Hunter World days, then his 5e ones, and now his tank and healer videos are funny and I can relate to them. I found Larryzaur back before he was on hiatus and watched nearly everything he put out and enjoyed it. But do I know what he looks like IRL? Nope? Have I gone to any con, including the one hosted in Las Vegas, where I live? Nope. I'm semi-hardcore. I can clear up through Savage for sure, but I don't have a static, I just exist and try my best. And that's what the bulk of "casuals" are. Just a step down from Hardcore.

      I agree with what Asmon said which is that there are so many metrics to measure "hardcoreness" that it's very subjective. The content may be "easier" but from the level of no-lifeing I could still be considered hardcore

Helping someone grow and watch their Skill grow and their confidence whilst remaining humble is a great thing to see as well as their happiness. @@yaggity Dude, that's the whole point of being a top tier player to be honest... being an elitist asshole is for people that either have been raised wrong or are mentally ill and need a therapist ASAP... I know it's not an MMO but I've been a top 0.1% player in a very different kind of video game before (FIFA... back when playing FIFA was about skill and not exploiting bullshit mechanics)... anyway, back then every year you had to start from Division 10 and work your way up... so as you can imagine I would casually blow through 9 divisions all the way to Division 1 by completely trashing much lesser players... in a sports game most people lose the game and move on to the next one but I was around Division 6 in FIFA 14 back in 2014 and I remember a kid (he was like 12-13, something like that) from Austria sent me a message after the game cause I beat him 11-1 telling me that he's never seen anyone play that good and asked me to teach him a few things...
      I know that in the gaming world it takes guts to do that so I sent him a message and we played some games and whenever he saw me online he would send me to play... thankfully he had a headset so I could explain to him what I was doing in game and after playing for a few weeks, the same kid that was losing 11-1 to me was getting better really fast by understanding the game... he even got a little bit competitive with me, still losing but making me have to work for it a bit... and remember, I was a guy that was on Division 1 winning championships left and right... we didn't stay in touch but I'm sure that after we stopped playing together he easily climbed to Division 3 or 2 based on how much he improved
      the thing is that elitist assholes are actually weak ass scared cowards... they act like that cause they're scared that if they teach others the game they might end up losing to them... it's like that asshole superior you have at work that never teaches anybody anything and takes credit for all your work just to keep his job and make sure the more talented young guys stay away from it...
      Sorry for he big ass comment... just my thoughts on how top tier players are and how they should be...

    Hardcore is a mindset. It's not based on time played. It's based on what content you play and how you try and improve in the amount of time you have. Someone could have 5 hours a week to play but plays the hardest content in the game, yet someone can just sit around for 40 hours a week doing casual things and not really anything at all.
    Time doesn't mean anything, it's the content you consume. It's the mindset you have. Do you want to get BiS? Do you want to do the hardest level of content? Do you want to get better at the game? Then you have a hardcore mindset, no matter if you are playing a shit ton or not.

The toxic casual is making fun of "sweaty" hardcore players and feels superior because he is viewing it as a game, not a lifestyle. And the toxic hardcore is feeling superior compared to filthy casuals. Whereas the wholesome ones get along just fine and can work together. Or where not, they simply stay out of each others way rather than attacking each other.

    By his definition of hardcore just means playing more than 3h, watching streams, attending cons and doing cosplay. It's too general. I think most people refer to hardcore vs casual it's more about their skill level in the game. You can play a lot and still suck. Most ppl who attend irl events are usually casuals. Casuals don't care/aren't capable of getting better at a game. Being a hardcore player is actually having a high level skill in a game that you're actually dedicated to improving, and get better over time, and not just playing a long time.

    18:06 yes pls, this had to be said. Most people have nothing against casuals, but they irresponsibly join groups, that are supposed to be consisting of players that are good. Good players wanna clear something with no big deal and not having to watch over somebody who has no idea what he is doing. If somebody tells me that hardcore community is unwelcoming because of this, then I'm gonna commit smth... It's not a good idea for new or bad players to join these runs, because they are either gonna get overwhelmed or they won't give a fuck and everyone will get mad at their incompetence.

    • @zejzild
      @zejzild 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It's not that I don't agree with you, but if you look at it from the "incompetent" player's point of view, that run could be lifechanging for their character - it's what could perhaps MAKE them competent.
      I had a mage in BFA, and I realized I was NEVER gonna gear her up, unless I took the chance and joined some raids - so I did, got 99% good feedback and I even made a couple of friends during that time. And, most importantly, I ended up having an amazing mage. I would've never had that, had I not been given the chance in these raids where I was (rightfully so, ofc, I'm not denying that at all) seen as "incompetent".
      So, really, it is up to another group of better players to decide, whether or not they want to help someone through, or just stick to their own thing. Both imo can be totally ok.

    • @durgan5668
      @durgan5668 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Shrug, while I'll agree up to a point, I wouldn't make such a broad statement that 'good' players don't also sometimes help players who are not yet experienced enough to BE good at their class. I agree, I have no respect for players who want to be carried, or go afk in a fight, and harm the group by willful incompetence. Most guilds are willing to help someone 'get gud' because in the long run, it helps the group to have a wider pool of experienced players to get through content. Games often demand a certain number of warm bodies to attempt an event. What I don't like, however, are the guilds that state they're there to help people, but actually are there to groom only hardcore players, and freeze out the casuals if they don't meet their elitist standards. That, to me, is toxic. If it's a elite guild, fine, those are the standards players are expected to meet to join. Just be upfront about it.

    • @silvernightskyy
      @silvernightskyy 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I partially agree. I know how annoying it can be for more invested players when a casual joins a party and messes things up, but I feel like most people who complain about casuals are actually bad players who always try to find excuses or people to blame. They often don't realize how bad they really are.

Also that I don't know how to play. Then that player complains in /w that he got kicked out of the group.
      Then imagine dealing with such people all the time, especially people who don't type nothing into the chat and have clearly no interest in doing the content easier for others. That is what I call incompetence and I meet such people all the time.
      So many people pay for wow to just play the game, not waste their time trying to teach the game to some absolute moron who is not even listening. I play a good amount of hours, understand mechanics and try to do the best with the gear and jobs I play by learning them in and out, researching, etc. I also watch a lot of vids about FFXIV and Destiny 2. But I don't do Savage raids in FFXIV and the like because I don't have the time for them really, without giving up other stuff I enjoy in the game, at least.

  • @cloudwolf3972

    For me, a hardcore player is more like 5 hours a day(EVERYDAY) at least, be on a schedule just like Asmon said, and be really into min maxing systems and mechanics while perceive the most difficult content in the game. You don't need to ba a neckbeard NEET that plays 7-16 hours a day, if you do, you're not "playing hardcore", you are living the game.

    • @Member_zero
      @Member_zero 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

      You can play 10h a day and just mess arround in main hub and joke arround or go afk all the time. Or you could play for 4h and clear a mythinc+. I think the type of content you engage with is more important than ammount of hours spent.

    • @cloudwolf3972
      @cloudwolf3972 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Member_zero Actually, good point. The kind of time spent that I was thinking about had to do with grinds(and chores lol) that the game forces you to do in order to get to the high end content. Games like WoW and BDO usually forces players to do boring grinds and that was what I was talking about when I said 5 hours everyday.
      But looking at FFXIV this definitely isn't a necessity for the game nor the player. It's just old bad design that game developers used in the past to extend content when everybody was a scrub and the games didn't had or couldn't had a decent gameplay or content loop.

    Do you want to constantly improve, get better at the game and tackle harder challenges? HC
    Do you get hostile when anyone gives you even the tiniest piece of advice and do you frequently use the phrase "you do not pay for my sub"? Filthy casual. I only hate these kinds of players.

    In WoW raiding guilds generally label themselves hardcore if they raid 4-5 days a week and tend to require their raiders to do everything they can outside of raid to improve or get stronger.
    Semi hardcore guilds tend to do 3 raid nights a week and aren't required to do everything they can to get better but are encouraged to.
    And casual raiding guilds are 1-2 raid night per week and don't care about raid comp or how little experience and gear players have. And tend to get curve of a tier towards the end of the patch.

    This is one reason that put me off WoW a few years back. I'm more of a casual player and just wanted to enjoy playing the game, but some people would get angry if my DPS was sub par. I understand wanting to do good at the game, but we were never dying and I don't want to treat a game like a job or an exam.

    I kind of agree with the point that players should decide if they are hardcore or not. They know how much theyre into the game. Me for instance, I play more than most people in a week, I like to learn the game mechanics in depth, I enjoy getting immersed in the culture of the game and the people. However, I wouldnt say Im hardcore. I dont really enjoy super difficult raids and I never cared about BiS. I just play. nothing too intense. Just run around and do whatever the game lets me.

    I've always said that my game time is just like everyone else's TV time. Games are just better because they're interactive, and you usually need to use your brain to some extent.

    Back in Cata when I started playing WoW I would play it for probably about 40 hours a week but because I ONLY raided in 10 man normal I never truly considered myself hardcore.

    I find it funny how much MMO content I consume but yet I don't actually play any of them really

    I believe being a hardcore player is determined by what content that you do. Casual players can't play mythic plus at high keys. Also, hardcore game modes require players to put in a shit ton of hours anyways. A casual player can spend 100 hours doing LFR and world quests. That doesn't make them a hardcore player. Whereas doing mythic plus raids every week does because most players can't do that.

    I play ffxiv for approx 8 hours a day every day, But I consider myself casual. I don't raid regularly and mostly do whatever I feel like doing in the moment. I dungeon, raid, pvp, rp and craft. I collect mounts and minions as a passion and most of what I do is geared towards some achievement mount/minion.
    I have a friend who's in two progressive statics and in constantly doing the hard end content. He only plays 4 hours a day. But I consider him more a hardcore player than myself.
