If Josh keeps growing and following his current path, I think he could become the true successor of TB. He has the voice, the calm demeanor, strong background knowledge, is fiercely pro-consumer. Also is a Brit. I wish him the best.

Aren't a lot of people actually? I haven't gotten a _"Blizzard fix"_ since the first six months of BfA. When WoW first came out I played pretty much from start to half a year into TBC. And then it just went downhill and I started subscribing less and less. *WHY?* Guess why - cause the game's content stretched too much. And I felt like it was more profitable for me to come back every 1 or 2 years or so for just 6 months so that I could collect stuff on my own, especially in raids from older expansions, then having to go through it with other people. The feeling of freedom was just off the sharts. But then I noticed timesinks sh°t for the first time in the most uncomfortable way too. You can only farm raids once a week. Some instances only once a day and such...! Kinda made me disgusted in the long run. And in the end it never truly made me feel like I was losing out more on the collectors side as on the frustration side I would have had, if I had always subscribed. Why some people get so insanely addicted over a game - even if it is very good - I just cannot understand. One day it will all be over. In many ways WoW is already over. It has become ugly. Wokeness is there, SJW bullsh°t is there, "EARTH diversity" is there... blue eyes Highelve customization for Bloodelves... what for a clownshow. :D They are not even trying anymore.

One of the greatest points made in this video was about halfway through (around 1:09:00) when Asmongold talked about a rating system. As a parent, I think a system like this is needed in order to protect children from this sort of predatory system. Otherwise, a whole generation is sucked into gambling addictions unlike any previous generation in history, and that (I personally believe) has an overwhelming impact on society as a whole, whether that be relationships/marriages, class systems, future children's well-being, psychological problems, homelessness to an unbelievable degree, etc., etc.....It's just insane how common systems like this are now relative to before everyone carried a phone around on their person. Before, if you wanted to gamble, you'd have to travel to a casino or take a specific cruise ship. Now, you pull out your phone on the toilet. In this kind of economy and world unrest, is that kind of availability to addictive behavior really what society needs? Do we REALLY need to be creating hundreds of millions more zombie/drone children that are slaves to major corporations/CEOs who live rich off the labor of all of them? Just a thought.
@@MV-ri7zu Do you have kids? Unless you're a crazy helicopter parent you can't see what your kid is doing 100% of the time and kids learn how to lie, cheat, and steal pretty quick. It's human nature. The only way you can guarantee keeping them from predatory is to never let them touch a video game while they're under your roof. Which honestly is probably for the best but is the extreme option. Particularly if both parents work long hours to afford living decently. Parenting is tough and any help we can get is welcome imho.
@@talkingmudcrab718 The parents are the group with the most control over the kid. Parental controls exist on just about every console possible for kids below the age of 13 and young kids don't need personal electronics unless you want to get them something like an NDS. Beyond that kids talk about what they are interested in and what they spend time on. If they manage to put in 2 hours of Genshin Impact a day without you finding out, I'm sorry but you are just a sh't parent and are ignoring your kid. For teenagers, yeah they have access to the internet but your job still remains of taking an interest in your kids life, their interests, and being able to discern when trouble is brewing and take appropriate action. Will you catch everything? No, of course not when they are individuating, but hopefully you built up a relationship of trust so you still have some window into their lives. Though I fully agree there needs to be more regulation and barriers put for more mature games. But don't remove agency from parents. Whether a kid spends their early years playing games like CoD or games like Klonoa is in the parents hands.

I agree with all their takes yet it feels so contradictory. Rich mains P2W games and he hasn't quit or stopped giving money despite the predatory practices. Asmon has said even if a game is predatory he will still buy it for content. Collectively giving like $100k to Diablo Immortal isn't aligned with what they are talking about lmao. Josh is the only one actually following his own words.
That’s what I’ve been thinking the whole time. At least asmon only spent like 2k but the other two are mega whales that say it’s a bad game yet spend 20k on it makes no sense to me. Josh is the only smart one tbh
I think it's not about being smart. Being addicted is very hard to control, and Diablo Immortal is very good at manipulation. I don't blame people that put money into it
The worst thing is that they're streaming it. Showing people and kids it's ok ( or not ) to do it, and that money apparently rains from the sky and is as easy to get as to spend. These streamers are my age, a generation that grew up with ads and TV transforming them into hyper-consumerists who can't refrain from spending their money on useless shit. Now imagine a generation growing up watching these people on Twitch... it's completely fucked up and I hope it'll get banned. Companies shouldn't make these games, and people shouldn't show themselves spending thousands on virtual crap and gambling mechanics.
they can morally grandstand all they want, they're still giving this company they despise tens of thousands of dollars. Not to mention they themselves are profiting off of it by playing the game and getting views by "exposing how predatory the game really is", which is funny because Josh has done that just as well and he hasnt had to spend a cent to do so. Really makes you wonder, huh?
i reallyyyyyy enjoy the line-up for this episode. You have different interesting perspectives on one subject, and I also love the chemistry you guys have together. Great listen :D
Honestly so much wisdom in one chat, this is more than just some gamers chilling, this game is dangerous and manipulative and this discussion alone is so informative its something of a weapon against these sneaky tactics from blizz
I love every thing about josh. Love his style, his choice of words his flow while speaking and his way of thinking. Josh, you've advanced to 1st monitor content for now. Even though you will some day, eventually, drop down to second monitor, you will never degrade to third monitor level ever.
Josh's the smartest out of all of these streamers who played diablo immortal. If you dont like the game, dont make excuses to feed your gambling addiction like "Oh no guys, I'm only showing you how bad the game is by spending 20,000 United States Dollars!"
I think Asmon enjoyed the game at the beginning. Eventually you get bored. He tries to play it off but at least for a few days, he enjoyed it. He overspent for content, but if he wasn't a streamer he'd still spend a little bit.
And then rich goes on to talk about blizzard being a “pay first” company when people like him are the reason why games like Diablo Immortal exist. I know damn well blizzard has watched all of these famous streamers spend insane amounts of money on pay2win games and influence their audience to spend money. Yea the audience won’t spend the same amount but if 2,000 viewers spend at least 100 bucks that’s 20k right there. And I know damn well if your the type of person to spend 100 bucks, you are also the type to spend even more than that because you think “well I have already invested this much so I might as well keep going”.

Revisiting 40k: Inquisitor in light of all this Diablo Immortal coverage was a very stark experience. An obscure title from 4 years ago, that nobody's really heard of, is doing what we all wish. Up-front price tag, no microtransactions, company's kept on to support it post-launch and just focuses on making it more fun and inviting to play, instead of the swipe simulator everything's become since the market's AAA boom. It was like hopping in a time machine to ~20 years ago. I got all that 'neurons firing happy brain chemical' goodness, and it was... euphoric, to also find how unsullied it was. You look at its 'dlc' section in the game, dread a cash shop, and then find that that's all *only* bought with a currency that you earn in-game from doing missions. No swipe even possible. Genuine, unironic pog moment. Days-long afterglow, man. Edit: Oh yeah, the npc market shop deal has 'lootboxes.' That, again, you buy with that same 'fate' currency as the 'dlc,' that you earn doing missions, no swipe.
problem is it's a mediocre arpg better than d3 tho i spose, which is a shallow basic arpg, prolly shouldn';t ahve fired the people that made d1 and 2 i guess.
1:28:00 I have to disagree on that one. While the price of games didn't follow the inflation that much and their cost of production sure has increased A LOT, so too did the consumer base and ease to access to the product compared to back in the day. You can now sell you games to way, WAY more people, way easily and for cheaper on your side.
This episode of allcraft felt like a well-planned, professional documentary on contemporary video gaming thanks to josh. Need ppl like him in gaming industry to not have gamers viewed like degenerates or idiots who spend money on gacha, or infleuncers / streamers like rich represent the stupid part of gamers.
Yeah... I don't understand how they can talk about how bad the microtransactions are when they're contributing to the problem. Entirely counterproductive and a setback to the discussion as a whole. There would be no way for me to realistically take this podcast serious without Josh's input.
what you're missing here is that people who are psychologically motivated to pay to win won't necessarily be psychologically motivated to pay for cosmetics, no matter how exclusive they are. what games like this are showing us are is that many people enjoy paying to overcome any real or perceived lack of skill. if one has a lot of money, it is incredibly comforting to know that money can be used for something that makes you happy while making other people unhappy
Honestly the solution is very simple, "back to back events that rewards legendary crests" That would help low spender and f2p catching up with the whales without neglecting the whales since they already have more than enough anyway.
@@1IGG they already have enough of bound crest guaranteed excess bound crest probably won't help them at all in fact they might just scrap it, the real problem the crest system that limits the low spender power to grind harder. Look at the highest grossing mobile game like uma musume or priconne, they all absolutely grind based not whale based. There's granblue as well that giving free players the equivalent of crest(Damascus ingots you can get 3 or more if you really a masochist) every 1-2 weeks via events.
1:28:20 Asmongold, you have absolutely no idea how right you are. This isn't true in just gaming industries or even corporations, this is true of ANY complicated system. Once a system gets to large, it starts to de-cohere and it tends towards Senescence. It is a law of nature, simply put too much order leads to chaos. It will eventually collapse under the strain of trying to maintain itself and that weight gets bigger as it gets bigger. The same thing is currently happening with our legal system and our global economies. This is a really profound insight and its cool you came to it on your own.

1:04:55 the Pokemon TCG also has this system, which is why I now prefer it over my previous card game, Yugioh. there's the base versions of cards that are usually under super cheap (mostly under $5), or Full Art cards and secret rare, 2 per box, alternate art cards. i can buy a fully functional deck for $50, and if I really like a card or can use it in multiple decks, i can buy the golden foil ones for $25 each. this kind of system i don't have too much of a problem about.
47:09 Rich explains the only good thing that came out , but i believe the best thing that came out of diablo immortal is that there is now a very well defined barrier between games that are pay to win but acceptable , and games like diablo immortal. Due to the backlash that diablo generated game developers in the future will have to pick a side. Can they withstand the backlash or not ?

they havent touched on most gacha games having price banding, where the efficiency of how much you put in diminishes significantly with the higher bands. makes lower tier spenders feel less bad, diablo though... the banding is very murky and it almost tries to drag you out of the tier of spender you're in. like in genshin and epic seven with rich mentioned have pretty well defined tiers from a monthly 5 dollar spender, 30 and finally whale territory with significant breaks between each band. usually leaves a better taste in the mouth with such pricing systems.

Rich's point on indie games resonates with me on a deep level. Some of the best games I have played in the past decade have been indie/indie-ish games. I believe the tactic Immortal is doing (starting out with a good experience) goes back to coin-op arcade machines and I've heard it called _feast and famine_ . The idea is you start out by making the player feel very powerful and give them plentiful resources, in the hope they'll try to spend money later to get back into that comfort zone. It's why a lot of those old arcade games have an amazingly designed first level, a difficulty brick wall on level 2 or 3, and the last level looks like it was made in an afternoon.

Interesting thought, a similar tactic to weed out people was done in Tarkovsky's movie, stalker. He put in a very long, very boring intro with the intent of weeding out anyone who would watch the whole film and complain it was devoid of excitement. He felt anyone who was interested or dedicated enough to get past that barrier he constructed was a person likely to be receptive to his vision.
@@evarchavex4800 Tarkovsky is considered one of the finest artist in cinema. But if you are used to Hollywood blockbusters, you can stay away from them. Don't get me wrong here but you guys are heroes. Content like this wont change the gaming industry and probably won't lead to people-focused games again. Even knowing this you keep on and hope to inspire critical thinking. Every person that doesn't get dragged into addictive behaviour by pointing these things out is a win. You can't do more but spread your point of view and try to inform people so they can come up with their own decision. As bad as it sounds but there isn't really much else you can do. So thanks for giving it your best.
13:04 Edit: Josh actually boiled this down really well without diving into the minutia of how a game can do what he is talking about. Genshin did something that no game had done in a while which was make me feel ok about giving them 5, 10, 15 bucks. Nothing about the game has ever confused me, and they give you everything you need to track your progress. So by making a game that has plenty of content, that is easy to plan around, and offers players with the choice of paying anything from what, a cup of coffee per month? To 4 cups of coffee? or if you're Rich just swipe huge amounts of money so that you completely bypass the long term progression system. Kinda creepy that it's Blizzard who made the game that sounds the most insideous out of any gacha I've ever heard discussed. Braindead chatters crack me up, if you're making fun of Rich for enjoying Genshin then you haven't played the game. Almost every content creator has a F2P account because the F2P experience is arguably better of the long term. Why on earth would I say that? Well, because if you swipe in Genshin the only thing you're doing is reducing the time investment you have to put in to the game to beat the content that it presents you. Instead of working your way up to 36 stars over time you clear it in the first month, instead of struggling a bit for the first time on a new boss you just dumpster it because you're account is juiced, etc. The major appeal to the game is that you build your roster, you flesh out multiple team synergies, and you fill in weaknesses that your account has over time. Most of the people I know who play Genshin don't even get Welkin and the BP anymore because by just making good choices we've fleshed out our accounts without spending a ton of money. For frame of reference I got Welkin and BP pretty religiously up until Lost Ark, and so did my friend but he also dropped about 200 CAD on the game on top of that because he felt like it.
blizzard is the best at taking stuff other people do and making it so much better. We are just used to them doing that on video games.... Now we know they can do it to $$$$ as well.

When WoW first came out I played pretty much from start to half a year into TBC. And then it just went downhill and I started subscribing less and less. *WHY?*
Guess why - cause the game's content stretched too much.

But like, don't we already have PEGI and shit (which has gambling as a content descriptor too) and nobody pays attention to those sorts of things?
@@joao20able True....laws have no effect if not enforced.
The actual issue is in parenting.

At the end of the day they’re all adults and they can do what they want with money like everyone else

People aren't meme'ing about Asmongold when he said that FF 14 is a trashy weeb game for losers and pedos a few years ago. Or when he claimed that most Lala players are probably pedos IRL relativly recently.

Edit: Oh yeah, the npc market shop deal has 'lootboxes.' That, again, you buy with that same 'fate' currency as the 'dlc,' that you earn doing missions, no swipe.

oh and I was here too.
Josh has the best facial reactions everytime they mention that they spent money on the game.
Josh getting a lot of subs his way! Let's go!
People like Quin, RichWCampbell & Asmongold are the reasons game companies continue to push P2W, as a game developer now a days, who cares if 95% of your fanbase think your disgusting & immoral, if the 5% are going to pay you millions of $$$ then that's more profitable than not doing P2W.
Josh is the MVP here - providing really awesome content & paying Blizzard absolutely nothing!!! - We need more Josh's if gaming is to be 'saved!'.
You need people who are willing to spend money like this though. They need to show the world how bad this is.
Yet asmongold is currently in the works of talking to a state senator to possibly ban loot boxes in the states tho? 🤔
@@despain8726 I disagree, people like Josh haven't spent a dime and we're easily able to articulate how fucking pay to win this game was. Let's get real here, the only reason the streamers spent thousands was for content purposes and because they could. In the end they still collectively gave blizzard $40,000 between three of them while at the same time condemning them.
@@despain8726 No we don't, we were fine before them and we will be fine after them. People need to figure things out for themselves and decide to be dumb or not. If you need someone else to show it to you then it's already too late. Josh is the only one in that panel with any actual worth since he practices what he preaches, the way it should be. Also the reason i doubt we will ever see him on that panel again, he makes the rest look like degenerate clowns.
@@TalisLoki Right, no matter how much Asmon makes excuses, him spending an unnecessary amount of money in Immortal and then condemning Blizzard after is stupid. We should know by now that condemning Blizzard doesn't do anything, they don't care. They only speak one language and that's money which you gave them a lot of and who knows how many streamers and content creators did too for the sake of "content".
I would like to see josh more often on this stream, just because of his point-of-view so different and says his point so well and on point.
I hope they do
Asmon bringing up the Final Fantasy thing right to Quin's face regarding people moving on from controversies was hysterical. What a burn.

1:11:30 Amway is, by legal definition that was certainly not affected by the fact that Amway's owners were and remain major figures in the Chamber of Commerce and Republican fundraising more broadly, not a pyramid scheme.
Yea but it is a pyramid scheme.
they havent touched on most gacha games having price banding, where the efficiency of how much you put in diminishes significantly with the higher bands. makes lower tier spenders feel less bad, diablo though... the banding is very murky and it almost tries to drag you out of the tier of spender you're in.
like in genshin and epic seven with rich mentioned have pretty well defined tiers from a monthly 5 dollar spender, 30 and finally whale territory with significant breaks between each band. usually leaves a better taste in the mouth with such pricing systems.
That two and a half hour chat simply flew by. Awesome content.

I'm here cus I'm part of Josh's audience and when I played Lost Ark watched Asmogold, I enjoyed and loved every part of this podcast. Stay too smart for you own good Rich and Quin. Diablo Immoral is my favorite descriptor of the game.
The ONLY WAY Blizzard can ever get my trust back is a reboot and relaunch of Lost Vikings and making another RTS game ala non rpg Warcraft or Starcraft.
really enjoyed this allcraft talk cheers to you guys!
Josh is a fine cup of tea for the round not joking
I'd love to see Josh as a part of OTK... gives the org another completely different avenue and variety in content that they can persue

Rich's point on indie games resonates with me on a deep level. Some of the best games I have played in the past decade have been indie/indie-ish games. Vampire survivors, Stardew Valley, Dead Cells, Enter The Gungeon, Terraria, even minecraft was an indie project. Indie games have been a huge light in the dark sea of mediocre AAA games.
AAA are trash now
Indies are not everything though, we got nier and nier automata, the monster hunter franchise ,Xenoblade ,FF XIV, they're still good games but God they're so rare now
@@Elyakel All from Japan, propably everyone can see a pattern here xD
I believe the tactic Immortal is doing (starting out with a good experience) goes back to coin-op arcade machines and I've heard it called _feast and famine_ . The idea is you start out by making the player feel very powerful and give them plentiful resources, in the hope they'll try to spend money later to get back into that comfort zone. It's why a lot of those old arcade games have an amazingly designed first level, a difficulty brick wall on level 2 or 3, and the last level looks like it was made in an afternoon.
@14:40 got this feels too, 2nd attempt on Battle Grounds at Paragon 40. This game took 8 of my WoW tokens and its time to nail the coffin. Crap I just recently renewed my battle pass 😑
That just sounds like a shitty movie.
@@evarchavex4800 Tarkovsky is considered one of the finest artist in cinema. But if you are used to Hollywood blockbusters, you can stay away from them. Long slow shots, random speeches and endings that required several viewings. If you like "cinema", you like the guy, if you like "entertainment" and value your time, you won' t. He made films for snobs like me and the people who can sit through long boring intros where jackshit happen.
For here on out. Josh will now be known as 'The Professor'. So it is written, so shall it be done.
The way these guys refer to and talk about "whales" when literally 75% of the cast here are whales to the game is actually hilarious.
Oh it's very self-deprecating
Lol these guys aren't whales they're just idiots that have thrown some money at the game whales would have spent 3 times this much easily.
They are the no.2 guys on servers that see the target ahead of them which makes them want to throw money at the game to try and catch up.
@@BC-tu8mn lol between the three of them they've spent above $35,000 in one week. If that's not whaling I don't know what is
@@kool1joe I find it kind of funny how Asmon has been the face of the "whale streamer" for a bit due to the Lost Ark honing streams, but he's like a footnote compared to Rich and Quin here.
14:00 It's a pachinko machine. There's a lot of Japanese gaming franchises that have pachinko installments, and they all work like this. Pay money for a random chance that you'll advance the story.

Truly, the crests are to blame
This was an awesome episode! The game industry can learn something from this. Let's hope the learn the good stuff and doesn't pickup all the evil ideas. :)
When I look at Quin next to Josh, I think to myself "He could be the Player 2 reskin of Josh"
Josh is finally in Allcraft!
Society is at a point where the law defines moral boundaries and the other way round as it should be. This can't be turned around in a lifetime. As bad as it sounds but there isn't really much else you can do. So thanks for giving it your best.

Edit: Josh actually boiled this down really well without diving into the minutia of how a game can do what he is talking about.
