As I am listening to this, we have been trained by society NOT to listen to the body. Think elementary school, middle School, high school. You have to ask for permission to pee or poo. You have to get up and go to school even if you are tired. You have to be awake and not take naps at school...... Then as we grow into adults, we need to untrain what they taught us. This is how we treat our youth? Not to mention what goes on in some homes such as abuse and trauma..... Society is Frustrating......

What is the reason they want to drill children into a system which is not healthy and robbes you from your own self. I truly wonder,😢

I am thinking exactly the same! It is normal and expected of us to push and push beyond our body's limits, doesn't matter if you are tired or burned out. Unfortunately, I played along until my late teens (for me it was normal, something everyone else also did). My chronic illness is teaching me to reconnect with my body. I wish that it was part of education to learn to listen to our bodies, to learn how to communicate our boundaries and other things that are necessary for a healthy and happy life.
I intuitively felt when I was 12 that I wanted to be home schooled or be a free learner but unfortunately that was not possible in my country. I want a better approach for my kids in the future.

truth! I was eldest girl in a family of 10 kids. I was taught to put myself last, like it would pay off someday, I was a good catholic girl. It's all self abuse. I could not sit and empty bladder in peace. no wonder the bladder infections showed up. I sit and pee in peace now. I drink water in peace and stare at the sun in peace and I walk in peace. It's quite enlightening!

Many children blatantly make aware that they absolutely do not consent to going to public school. Nobody seems to care about their consent on this topic. But when parents don't respect it and force them anyway, well it causes the damage that you should expect.

I agree in large part with what you say. Far too much emotional repression and trying to push through ( or push down ) bodily symptoms . Although at the same time, if people only worked when they felt like it, unless everyone was in a job they loved or found great purpose in, things would be chaos .
Surgeons or nurses can’t just not go in because they don’t feel like it, or are tired. So I think an element of self discipline is required, but still agree with you about the majority of things. Having to ask permission to go for a pee or poo is ridiculous, I agree! Politeness is one thing, but that imo is needlessly patronising and breeds submission

    1. Following impulses
Honoring and responding to our physical needs
    2. Orienting
    Reconnect to our environment
what do you see, hear, smell, touch, taste
    3. Sensory stimulation
Proprioceptive and vestibular stimulation calms the nervous system, like squeezing or applying pressure, rocking back and forth, swinging, jumping, shaking,
    4. Daily practice
    earthing, walking barefoot, mindfully walking,

    1. Following impulses - aka listen to your body. Tune into sensations (ex. go to the bathroom instead of pushing through/ignoring, drink water when thirsty)
    2. Orienting - connect to your environment. Look outside the window, far into the distance.
    3. Sensory Stimulation - helps get you into your body. Movement, balance, etc. Go for a walk, rocking, yoga, weighted blanket, foam rolling, jumping & shaking, heel drops.
    4. Implementing resources - grounding exercises (aka earthing), mindful walking, gardening, mindfulness practices, deep breathing, art, connection.

I got involved in yoga and meditation 23 years ago when I was trying to get sober. Although it did connect me with my body in ways I was not connected before. It also created a spiritual bypassing and ignoring of my body's signals. I had not done the trauma work first. Oh, how I wish I'd known to do that first, I would have prevented a lot of re-traumatizing, and horribly slow, circuitous route to just listening to my body and honoring it. TH-cam wasn't like this back in the day I started down that route. Thank you so much for sharing this life-saving information 🙏This also explains why I've gotten sick being a nurse in a hospital floor. I've learned in life to push through hard stuff, Thinking it'll make me stronger. All it really did was traumatize me(disregulate my nervous system) and make me sick. I've drank coffee for years. I think I do it as a way to hype myself up to be able to abandon myself. Our society definitely supports people who abuse themselves. That's just not life-sustaning for me anymore.

I enrolled in a health coaching program earlier this year and the program recommended eating 3 meals and 2 snacks per day, daily movement, daily exercise, drinking up to 100 oz of water, taking naps and going to bed early. I had NEVER done most of these things and found it difficult to do at first. I felt like a robot at first. But then I realized the reason my body had gotten out of whack over many years from the self-abuse you mentioned. I was so shocked and then understanding why my meditation and mindful practices were not as effective. This hustle/grinding culture and martyrdom has ruined so many of our health. I'm still learning to integrate all of these practices. When I fall off track and slip back into old habits, I have had a light bulb moment of awareness that I have been abusing my body and nervous system all of these years. Thank you for this video!

@@aquariusstar7248 I watched this video a day or two ago, and I have been trying to implement her tips. I am a homemaker, so I can pee any time I want to. I was shocked by how often my first instinct was to hold it and finish up whatever I was doing before going! I'm guessing this bad habit has carried over from all the years in school where I couldn't go, but I am honestly shocked at how hard it has been to remember to go as soon as I feel the urge.
I was feeling anxious today, so I went on two walks to burn off extra cortisol. In the past I would have told myself that one was plenty and that it would be better to spend the time cleaning or "being productive." Instead I listened to my body, and I feel much more relaxed! I can't believe how challenging this is. It makes me so sad. No wonder my nervous system is so screwed up.

I am using "It is okay. All is well. I can live my life the way i want. What i feel is ok" mantras. I also used to hug myself when i felt fear. Looking at my cat calms me the most.
Also, I learnt to listen to my impulses and take action right away. It must be done consciously with no delay😊
Yep, putting myslef first when it comes to following my bliss, values and happiness. F...the people pleaser mentality and being toyed. Self obsessed is the key but many people do not see the advantage of it. They think it is selfish which is not true. I enjoy looking at people when they throw tantrums because they cannot control me. 😊 The worst part of the society for me is being employed because this is where we start losing ourselves big time. Can't forget expectations of our parents. Then of course school because it teaches self neglect as a temple for life. And relationships where people focus on othres to make them happy. Terrible mistake.

Thank you! I’m so glad the algorithm suggested you.
A few years ago I started a new job and I was so overwhelmed and excited. One day I was being trained on the new software and all of the desks and employees were grouped together, no walls - ah! I ignored my need to pee and my hunger. My new boss passed by and I complained that was hungry like a little kid. I was so embarrassed when other people turned around and gave me wide eyes 👀. It was a revelation! I’m adult who has a right to take care of my needs. It was bizarre that I felt I was in prison. I attribute that to growing up in an alcoholic family.

Great video. I wonder if helping the nervous system feel safe helps us perceive a higher form of our intuition. Some people don't believe that even exists, but I've experienced times when insights showed up during stressful times that led to their solutions. I'd like to have more access to that part of myself. Previously, I never understood the value of being calm during difficult times. I used to say, "I don't care about being calm, I just want the problem to be fixed!" But if I could access choices I can't otherwise see while in freeze or fight or flight, I can see value in this other than just the health benefits to the body for calming down.

I've kept up these activities as much as possible over the last couple of years and seriously feel they've helped. I still long for security though, on a regular basis.

Great video! I’ve learned a great deal just from this short video - Thank you! One thing that I do when I realize that I’m dis-regulated is watch an episode of Cesar 911 on his personal channel. I love dogs and hope to get another pup one day😢. All the dogs he works with are in a state of fear and insecurity, just like my nervous system! Watching him work with dog and give it a sense of safety helps me be kinder to myself and have compassion instead of blaming or dwelling on horrible I feel. Maybe this will help another dog lover find ways to create safety in themselves ❤

Interesting that you bring him up, In hind sight I realize that was actually the beginning of my being able to understand the nervous system connection to the body. Caesar Milan and his show. Wow. Yay dogs!!!. I wound up with 2 rescue pits who are an excellent mirror for me and my husband. When he goes away one night a week the dogs are much less restless at night. It's him! 😆. We will both work on this. He's starting to understand and he's currently in the argument with his brain telling him the opposite should be happening. "Work work work, don't do ten minutes of yoga to reorient..."

not quite sure about "feeling heard, feeling seen" part. I would rather not put my feeling to be safe in other people hands, my need to be seen and heard. As personal experience I felt really safer when I got rid of that need, not when I (temporarily) fullfilled it.
    Or am I missing something?
    All blessings

    • @nimimerkillinen

i think feeling heard and seen in the moment works as long as you are not insecurely attached to them or future outcomes?

    • @lucievedomimkestesti
      @lucievedomimkestesti หลายเดือนก่อน +1

I also released the need to get it from others. Like I don't expect it. I learned to do it for myself and it feels great and safe. But If I talk to someone I can see where they are at and if I don't feel heard or seen I do not continue any relationship with them because it automatically feels like being ignored and unimportant. Those relationships feel empty and superficial with no meaning for me.
