I could probably imagine these characters working had "bootleg Ada" probably been given a more blunt and colder attitude, compared to the more playfully sarcastic and almost flirtatious nature of the real Ada at this point. Whilst "bootleg Leon", would probably be the cracking wise and snarky type, kind of like RE4's Leon, but with a bit more of a slight bumbling edge to it, similar to say... Bruce Campbell in the Evil Dead films. Which, if CAPCOM ever thought to maybe re-imagine Dead Aim for modern consoles (which seeing as there's news of a possible RE4 remake, as redundant as it sounds, probably would give some of the lesser known games in the series a possible chance in the spotlight), could be an interesting way to make these characters more unique.
A few corrections: I always assumed the blaming of Morpheus for the Raccoon Incident was just the Company using him as a scapegoat. I believe it's stated in the in-game files, but the G virus was a nightmare to work without Birkin, so it was probably way eaiser for him to get his hands on the T-virus. Plus, the G-virus isn't really good at causing an outbreak since it can't be transmitted via bite or scratch.
That makes a lot of sense. Without Birkin, I assume that virus was a bitch to work on. As for the files, it looks like the Japanese version of the game, worded the memo differently, making vague threats of blaming him, and the US translation is the one that insinuated he was responsible.
lol, i was literally wondering the other day if you were going to cover this title . I think most people forget this one even exists, great work man! Your channel is awesome!
This game seems more fun than I thought. I wish Capcom would have done something like this in Umbrella and Darkside Chronicles instead of making them 100% light-gun style.
I'm just getting on how it's labeled semi-auto, because semi-auto specifically means one pull of the trigger shoots one round, which is typically faster than a bolt action, but Bruce's default S. Edge is also classified as semi auto in real life because he doesn't need to reload a locked slide after every shot. Then again it's a third party Resi, so it's whatever
@@rob98000 Semi-automatic means one bullet fires with one trigger pull, full auto means multiple bullets fire with one trigger pull. Burst fire is a very specific description of a certain number of bullets higher than one is fired with one trigger pull. These 3 classifications are very different and there are others that are even more different such as bolt-action and lever-action that are all different from each other in very distinct ways.
I remember playing this with a Blaster Light Gun from pelican for PlayStation when I was a kid. It felt so natural, favorite gun controller to this day. Used to play Dead Aim and Time Crisis 3 all day.
This game was fun to play when I first played it. I didn't have an issue with using the controller to shoot, but it would have helped to have a mouse. This game is a hidden gem for Resident Evil fans. It's not the best but it is good.
The story defenetely feels like "Residente Evil 3.5". Morpheus himself sounds like the prototype of the classic "cliche european bad guy" that Saddler would be eventually be.
It's actually funny you say that. When I first saw footage of this game my very first impression was that the main character looked like a cheap, off brand version of Leon Kennedy.
just wanna say this retrospective has been superb. I appreciate you giving re5/6 and all the spin offs fair shake while still sticking to your core love for the old games.
RE is one of my favorite franchises and this happens to be the first RE I ever played. Seeing such an in depth look on a relatively obscure game makes me really happy!
You got your info mixed up. In the "Dismissal Notice" file they aren't referencing the G-Virus outbreak incident of Birkin injecting himself. May 11th is when the first incidents with the queen leech virus start taking place. "On May 11, 1998 the Queen Leech triggered a containment failure in the underground laboratory." Because remember, The mansion incident happens in July when S.T.A.R.S go in to investigate, just the night after BRAVO heads in with Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil 0. In those cutscenes/that time Birkin is still alive conferring with Wesker. So maybe Morpheus did have something to do with the containment failure in the underground lab along with Marcus? It's never mentioned in 0, but since it's not official we can still use our imaginations and Dead Aim can still be correct.
THANK YOU for showing gameplay clips. I remember being frustrated years ago when I tried looking for Let's Plays of the game, and all I found were extremely poor quality, and one was someone holding a camera in front of their TV screen. Another was someone with like infinite ammo or something killing everything before you can take in some of the enemy models. Your review is literally the only video in all of TH-cam that clearly showed off the weird Hunters this game had. The RE wiki had screenshots in this odd angle, I was obsessed for the longest time how they'd look in-game, that weird clawless hand, and how they'd even attack.
Wasnt Morpheus just being Blamed for the Racoon outbreak? as in he was a scape goat which is why he turned on umbrella. Never knew about the mouse that's pretty cool, i used a light gun which doubled as a controller with directional buttons. It also had cool bosses with features for example take pluto, if you can shoot his head enough his brain hangs out and if you shoot it he dies. I liked this review better thanks for doing it. You should do outbreak next.
I really wish they would give us Outbreak HD, or even Outbreak 3. I never could afford the chance to play it online. Still loved every moment of both of them.
3 years late but the files in the game explain that Morpheus was incredibly negligent when it came to employee safety and was widely disliked by the higher ups. When the mansion incident occurred, he was blamed for what happened because, in short, he was the head of the department that was experimenting with the virus, and since he was in charge and didn’t implement proper safety proceedings, he was to blame and was fired. This is why he sells umbrella out and steals samples of the t virus for this game’s plot
The main character looks like a knockoff Wal-Mart version of Leon Kennedy. Also, what a coincidence that the main supporting character was also an Asian agent. I see what you tried to do, Capcom. I see. Lol
Avalanche Reviews, it's literally like the first thing that crossed my mind when I first saw footage of the game. 😂 Btw, I'm assuming it's pretty much all but guaranteed that you'll be doing a video on Resident Evil 2 remake when it comes out, so I'm definitely looking forward to that.
He looks like the default Fable 1 character! He looks so dorky and funny! It's like the lead singer from Nickelback found himself in the RE universe too!
I always felt that the idea of "Morpheus was responsible for the Mansion Incident" makes more sense when you see it as Umbrella trying to use Morpheus as a fall guy for the court cases that RE4 talked about.
Wow, I never knew you could play this game with a mouse, I remember too how frustrating playing this game was with just the normal controller, it really doesn't give it justice. Dead Aim is definitely one of the better spin-off games in the series.
I actually found an old ps1 light gun and tried it on my Ps2 for this game. It was alot of fun and worked suprisingly well. The lack of button on the Ps1 gun was made up by keeping the Ps2 controller close. It basically means: Walk and interact with ps2 controller, zombies? Pull out gun, shoot once for FPS view, Shoot twice to nail the bastard. Might sound like a bit of a handfull but it gives it a realistic feel, like, having to pull out your gun at the sight of an enemy, just the half second extra movment. All in the name of extra fun. Cheers and excellent review btw.
I’ve played this game twice growing up. I remember genuinely enjoying it. This review makes me want to go out and pick this game up again AND A USB MOUSE. Great video man!
I love these Resident Evil retrospectives, RE is one of my favorite franchises of all times and I love hearing your thoughts on each game. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Outbreak games!
It might be nostalgia. Back in the day I used to live with my dad in Bahrain. It was either stay inside during the day with air-conditioning or get wrecked by the dessert. I found a cheap PS2 and the only game I didn't know was dead aim(i am sure they sold in Europe but never seen it or heard about it) . They sold it with the light gun. And it was one of my best RE experiences. It felt really good moving with the d-pad on the gun and the shooting worked great. Felt really immersive. Staying inside wasn't so bad in the end ;)
That’s really cool that they programmed in that mouse solution. I can definitely see the mouse greatly improving the aiming during combat. Still not sure if I’d pick it up, but that’s still good to know.
I really liked this game back in the day, despite having to play it with just the controller (15 years later, and I learn that you could use a mouse...well, guess better late than never), so yes, I feel your pain about the final boss, which is incredible frustrating having to deal with it using the right analog stick, and if you lose, you have to beat the final boss AGAIN before having another attemp at this guy... Anyway, I actually liked the graphics, it looks like a Dreamcast game, but that is a plus in my book, and I really enjoyed the story, but that is most likely because I'm a James Bond fan. In short, glad you gave this game another chance, your original review was a bit too harsh on it. Sure, this isnt REmake, but back in 2003, this was a great "consolation prize" for PS2 only owners (I had a Gamecube, but I still really enjoyed this game, maybe more than RE0). "is there a reason why american spies use such ugly weapons?" - Morpheus
Yeah, I think I let my frustration seep into my critique of the rest of the game, in my last review. Like I said in that video, I used to love the game, so I'm happy to be having fun with it again.
When you mentioned playing with a controller and mouse feeling weird, I laughed a bit: there's a device that's basically exactly that concept, called the SplitFish, a nunchuk and mouse controller meant to work with first-person shooters.
It is interesting. Unfortunately a lot of the FPS community is dead set on the keyboard specifically--twitch movement with WASD lets them fidget around like drunken squirrels, a function that is utterly useless against a CPU but excellent for multiplayer mind-games. So it's really only appealing to single-player gamers like me, who dislike the limited movement speed/direction a keyboard presents.
Amazing video, nice to see that you got a way to give this game some kind of redemption, while its not the best game by any chance i just played it a lot due to how much fun it was playing it and landing headshot after headshot! hope you do outbreak 1 and 2 next, they really deserve some praise since they really bring a lot of survival in the survival horror
I love this game lol. It's so ridiculous. Also I highly recommend trying it with subtitles since I hear they (whether purposely or not) seem to be hilariously incorrect.
The low resolution effect can be one of two things. One is that there's something tainting the bloom buffer and what you're seeing is the bloom buffer rather than the originally rendered full-resolution image. The bloom effect would usually be implemented at a lower resolution - since it provides low-frequency clues and is heavily filtered, in a correct implementation this doesn't lead to quality issues. Other possibility, i can't see from here whether it affects the whole image at once, but if it does, chances are it's running manual interlacing scheme of sorts and failing. Since PS2 doesn't have a working flicker fixer that would blend a bit of the invisible field into the visible field, if you can hit consistent 15ms render time from start to finish, it doesn't even make sense to render the whole frame, you just render one field at a time, save yourself half the framebuffer and frontbuffer sizes, which is a godsend if you have to do a lot of transparency or fullscreen post process effects, like... bloom. However what happens if you're running late with the rendering? Either the two fields swap places or one field's data gets output twice, halving the vertical resolution. I think this is really it, it just starts dropping fields as a consequence of insufficient rendering performance, as it looks like horizontal detail (i.e. the stair stepping on near-vertical lines) is fine while vertical detail is decimated, leading to diagonal and horizontal lines being coarsely stair stepped.
I think you're right about it being the game messing with the interlaced output. I hear that early ps2 games used dev kits that forced a high res interlaced mode, and the necessity to hit 60fps. I assume when there's a lot taxing the resources, this interlacing can kind of go out of sync.
@@AvalancheReviews I don't think it was actually ever forced. But if you wanted dither-free graphics and good depth resolution, and full 480p, you end up allocating about 3MB of the VRAM just for the buffers and you're left with 1MB of texture space which is just ridiculous. The intended solution is to use the texture space in VRAM as manually managed cache so you basically stream the textures and replace them in the VRAM about half a dozen times per frame. But this is a bit tricky to do correctly and efficiently so it's sure to take a few months of time. In the interim, you may get some mileage out of drastically chopping down the framebuffer size by whatever means possible and trying to cram all textures you need into VRAM statically.
This game didn't retcon what happened in a Raccoon City to be Morpheus's fault. Morpheus was just the designated fall-guy by Umbrella for everything that had happened, and Morpheus's actions in Dead Aim are part of a revenge-quest by him for being made the scapegoat.
The Second RE title to take place on a Cruise Ship after Gaiden. I only ever refer to it as HEROES NEVER DIE. And hey, I enjoyed the story. The T/G virus is a new addition here and it's affect on Morpheus Duvall (it turned him into a woman) was blamed for the Arklay Lab disaster. It could be part of the official canon. This takes place in 2002, right? Did Umbrella have an official corporate end date (rather than the 2003 end of Umbrella mission)?
Umbrella's failed arms deal in this game accelerates the company's bankruptcy by RE4, so oddly enough this game is pretty dang important to the canon, if only for that vital detail.
Bruce is my favorite character. He was doing the witty one liners, before they had Leon do that. And if you know which button to push, you can move and shoot at the same time. People credit Outbreak file 2 for doing this first, but it was really this game that did it first.
i remember watching a walkthrough of this game... It was aight, the cutscenes were really nice for its time, too. also, holy fucking shit ahahahahahahaha i was not expecting to see a big badass beefy looking dude with a wicked beard behind the screen ahahahaha doesn't match your soft-spoken tone, that's fuckin sick and caught me off guard in a good way ahahaha
What the hell!? This shit wasnt in my sub feed. If it wasnt 4 that twitter post about metal gear you made earlier, i wouldnt have even checked. (MGS4 is still best game) i wouldn't know you uploaded. 16hrs late but better late than never.
I've actually been getting that a lot lately. I don't know what the hell TH-cam has been doing, but it sure as hell hasn't been delivering my videos to people's sub feeds. Also, 3 is the best MGS!
If you're stumped on what game to do next, I personally would love to see you review the Outbreak games. It'd be cool to see what your perspective of those games are. I was a teenager when they came out. I loved playing the first one online, despite its flaws. File #2 I didn't like as much, mostly because I thought the levels were nowhere near as good as the first Outbreak's levels. Anyway, thanks for the cool video. I'm really digging your retrospective series on these games.
I still have to finish Outbreak: File #2. Admittedly, I'm also not a big fan of its scenarios. I think the locations are really cool, but the levels themselves can be really difficult to get through, whether that be because of the AI of your teammates or the way the game is structured. I believe that if I go through them on Easy mode first and then Normal mode, it'll help me to memorize the routes of each level.
Instead of Fong Ling, they should've just dispensed with the pretense and called her "Definitely Not Ada Wong". When you said the person who wrote this game's story didn't seem to know much about the series other than surface level stuff, that reminded me of Resident Evils 4 and 7. They have a great core narrative going with Leon, Chris, and all the others, but Capcom has this weird obsession with making Resident Evil games that have absolutely no ties to the rest of the series. This game seems to be one of those. It's almost bizarre. At least this one has zombies, so I gotta give it that. Sounds like a game I might want to try though, as long as my Cougar Minos X3 works on the PS3.
this game was great when it came out, great atmosphere on the ship, the hum of the background while zombies giving out a scary groan in the distance can be heard, but cant be seen. played it with a pad back then and loved it. it was a totally different feel for the usual tank turning controls.
Lik-Sang used to sell a universal gun controller that works with Playstation/PS2/Xbox (probably only 480i passthrough, not progressive scan) and emulates Namco GunCon, and works with LCD/projection/100Hz/120Hz TVs/monitors. I don't know if it was any good. Sorry for opening an old wound in case you knew Lik-Sang. Also a perfectly adequate Dreamcast VGA box was like $15.
No, I didn't know about that lightgun, but I'll definitely be looking into it. As for the VGA box, finding one that I can hook up to my framemeister is very expensive. The Toro box outputs scart and is pretty damn expensive. If I bought a cheap VGA box, I would either have to buy a legacy capture device, or take the hit in picture an lag, that an HDMI to VGA converter brings.
@@AvalancheReviews cheapest VGA to HDMI converters don't have a full framebuffer and could introduce at most a handful lines worth of latency. They are usually based on MS9282 chip that you'll also find in the $5 Wii2HDMI key. Incidentally I suspect that the recently released HDMI cables for Dreamcast should be super similar. I wish I could find a detailed datasheet somehow for the chip. It just seems so super useful as a relatively easy HDMi transmitter. :( Need friends in Shenzhen China.
The game I always bring up whenever RE7 babbies try to dismiss my criticism with "you just hate the first person view!" Not too surprisingly, few of them have even heard of the Survivor games.
I had the incredible pleasure of playing this game with a Mission-Plus lightgun I picked up way back in the PS2 days. I think that fact alone just completely biased my opinion on the game. That was well over 10 years ago. I came to the internet later to know that the game was considered unplayable horrid hot garbage, and that you shouldn't ever even consider looking at it. Another shameful RE Wannabe. And I couldn't understand it. The Mission-Plus alone turned it into a godlike experience. It was a Desert Eagle model imitation (Bonus points) that had a gamepad attached on the side of what would be the underslung laser sight, matching right where my thumb would be while holding the gun, with buttons to boot, making the exploration to shooting transition instantaneous and seamless. It also had a really really cool recoil function, where the slide would actually kick back every time I pulled the trigger, taking the immersion up to 11. Add that to all the points that Avalanche gave to this game in terms of its atmosphere, zombie movement, hit detection, good blend of RE exploration and RE combat, a dark room with a big ass CRT and I had probably the best time I ever had in a zombie game for a very long time. Glad to have seen this review, its amazing what shit controls can do to a game, conversely, its amazing what great controls do FOR a game.

I played it when it came out. It’s better with a light gun but it’s not bad. Good luck finding a copy if you want it. This game felt like RE:Outbreak Files to me though, it had ambition but just failed in execution.
This game feels like it was specifically made for Wii, shooting with the remote and moving with the nunchuk, weird they didn't port it, would have fit like a glove
I saw this and thought "huh, did he reupload it? Nah, it's way longer than the older video". Anyway, I'm sorry you had to play what you consider the worst of the RE series again.
I just found your channel and I have to say I love your content! I’m a huge fan of the Resident Evil series and I’ve been enjoying the retrospectives. Keep up the good work and I can’t see which game in the series you’ll tackle next!
This game isn’t even animated nicely or anything. Doesn’t match the polish of the majority of Resident Evil games. Hard to believe it was released AFTER the masterful Code Veronica.
You can blame Cavia for their infamous lack of polish. There's a reason why Yoko Taro claims his time with the company usually involved him telling them to do something and then getting frustrated when they messed it up.
FateLyre Well yeah, but it’s not that bad. I just think this game looks like Doo Doo Butter in a lot of ways. Not trying to insult Avalanche or anything.
This game, to me, is one of the oddest and most surprising experiences I've had with an RE-game. From first glance, there are very few favors; the classic, campy arcade-shooter FPS-style - often characterized as being fast-paced, very linear (and quite outdated) - in an RE-game was a mix I felt was doomed from the get-go. Dis another typing of the dead? But the amount of times I was genuinely impressed and affected by it's atmosphere; one of the loneliest in the series, honestly, and quite ominous aswell. Maybe my exceedingly low expectations did help out somewhat (and there are still plenty of control-related issues, quite obvious from the style at hand), but honestly, would kinda recommend...??
I’ve been binge watching all your RE reviews and I gotta give you a big thumbs up! Great reviews for all the games(even if 4-6 sucked gameplay wise) I completely forgot about dead aim! I’ve been playing them since RE1 came out on ps1, it is still my favorite out of all of them, keep up the good reviews!
My opinion is just the opposite. I thought 4-6 were loads of fun gameplay wise, but kind of failed in the story/plot department (except for 5, which was decent). I hate 4 especially. The characters were laughably bad (especially the midget zombie pirate), and the plot was just silly at times.
Avalanche Reviews I actually found out how to play without a crt. All it took was a guncon 2 controller and a generic adaptor cable, I got off amazon. Oh and by the way, I just wanna say that as a hardcore, old school RE fan, I really like your retrospective on the series. I find myself agreeing with almost all of your points, and I really appreciate how in depth your analysis’s are. Keep up the great work! :) Also, since you’re stumped on what to do next, Gaiden is another underrated RE game for what it is. :)
i think the highlight of this game to me is that awesome opening song; Gunshot, its suuuuper catchy, kind of like the sum41 opening from Obscure :o but my god i WISH id known about the mouse thing! holy shit enduring this game with just a controller was exhausting Dx
this game (Resident Evil Dead Aim) was developed using a modified version of the id Tech 3 engine, the same engine used in games such as Quake III Arena and some Quake III based games
Holy crap, i just watched all the other episodes of the retrospective yesterday and was just thinking "i hope he does dead aim, that was such a weird game"
i just started this game with my boyfriend last week and we're having a nice experience! the story its bah, but the rest it's ok. Thanks for RE:retrospective, i love it
the PS2 supported anti-aliasing and developers had to manage VRAM usage carefully here , whenever more VRAM was require the developers try to balance the allocation of VRAM resources based on their game's specific needs and performance considerations , same technique was used in ISS PRO and Pro evolution soccer every time there is a goal and celebration cutscene
I bought a guncon specifically for this game. The gun I bought had a D-Pad and several buttons so I didn't need to switch to a controller. Sadly I don't own a CRT anymore, so the gun is useless. Good to know you can use a mouse.
A fave in highschool for sure! I broke my finger skateboarding and wanted something to play. I had guns from time crisis already. I had this game down to 2hr or less speed runs. I used to play it a ton! I still have it but idk when I played it last. Gun survivor 2 is my favorite.
I was not expecting a buff man with a glorious beard to have this soft calming voice.

Discovered this retrospective series yesterday and I've marathoned through them all! Seriously, AWESOME job!
Thanks so much! Glad you're liking them!
I remember playing this with a Blaster Light Gun from pelican for PlayStation when I was a kid. It felt so natural, favorite gun controller to this day. Used to play Dead Aim and Time Crisis 3 all day.
Now that I've experienced the mouse, I want to try out a light gun.
@@AvalancheReviews if you do try gs2 as well
This game was fun to play when I first played it. I didn't have an issue with using the controller to shoot, but it would have helped to have a mouse. This game is a hidden gem for Resident Evil fans. It's not the best but it is good.
looks like a predecessor that would lead up to resident evil 4
It does kind of feel similar.
clownavenger It was based on an unused concept for RE4. The two main characters in this game are pretty much stand ins for Leon and Ada.
The fuck how is this comment from 2 weeks ago?
just wanna say this retrospective has been superb. I appreciate you giving re5/6 and all the spin offs fair shake while still sticking to your core love for the old games.
Man that's good to hear! Thanks!!
RE is one of my favorite franchises and this happens to be the first RE I ever played. Seeing such an in depth look on a relatively obscure game makes me really happy!
Glad to see your opinion on Dead Aim is turned around. Definitely my second favorite spinoff, with the second best save room theme.
It was a really great save room theme.
You got your info mixed up. In the "Dismissal Notice" file they aren't referencing the G-Virus outbreak incident of Birkin injecting himself. May 11th is when the first incidents with the queen leech virus start taking place. "On May 11, 1998 the Queen Leech triggered a containment failure in the underground laboratory."
Because remember, The mansion incident happens in July when S.T.A.R.S go in to investigate, just the night after BRAVO heads in with Rebecca Chambers in Resident Evil 0. In those cutscenes/that time Birkin is still alive conferring with Wesker. So maybe Morpheus did have something to do with the containment failure in the underground lab along with Marcus? It's never mentioned in 0, but since it's not official we can still use our imaginations and Dead Aim can still be correct.
That's an interesting point. I'll have to look into that.
That atmosphere in this game is just... wow!
Really good.
It really is great.
Play it
THANK YOU for showing gameplay clips.
You should do outbreak next.
yeah, I thought Morpheus was just blamed for it, that is why he turned traitor. I need to go and play this game again.
I really wish they would give us Outbreak HD, or even Outbreak 3. I never could afford the chance to play it online. Still loved every moment of both of them.
Outbreak is so good.
Especially online.
There is a way to play online. Some one reversed engineered the servers.
This game used to scare me a lot. The moans of the zombies is horrifying
They are some of the best in the series.
The main character looks like a knockoff Wal-Mart version of Leon Kennedy. Also, what a coincidence that the main supporting character was also an Asian agent. I see what you tried to do, Capcom. I see. Lol
I mentioned that it my first review of the game, and people took it pretty negatively. It's clearly a carbon copy.
Avalanche Reviews, it's literally like the first thing that crossed my mind when I first saw footage of the game. 😂 Btw, I'm assuming it's pretty much all but guaranteed that you'll be doing a video on Resident Evil 2 remake when it comes out, so I'm definitely looking forward to that.
and Brad Pitt
He reminds me of Paul Walker
He looks like the default Fable 1 character! He looks so dorky and funny! It's like the lead singer from Nickelback found himself in the RE universe too!
I always felt that the idea of "Morpheus was responsible for the Mansion Incident" makes more sense when you see it as Umbrella trying to use Morpheus as a fall guy for the court cases that RE4 talked about.
I just found out this was made by Cavia, same guys behind Drakangard and first Nier games.
Yep! They made the Chronicles games too.
Problem being that Yoko Taro wasn't in this so, too bad for you Capcom, here's a generic shitshow for you
Wow, I never knew you could play this game with a mouse, I remember too how frustrating playing this game was with just the normal controller, it really doesn't give it justice. Dead Aim is definitely one of the better spin-off games in the series.
This game make me want a sequel for dead aim series
Ya know, I kind of do too.
just want to know wtf happen to Fong Ling and Bruce kek...
This is probably one of the weirdest resident evil games in the series
The Boss Stage1 electric transexual mutant tits
I loved this Resident evil
I remember playing and complete around 30 times in one day after complete it hahaha once You know where to go is easy
I’ve played this game twice growing up. I remember genuinely enjoying it. This review makes me want to go out and pick this game up again AND A USB MOUSE. Great video man!
Thanks! That's exactly why I made this video.
I love these Resident Evil retrospectives, RE is one of my favorite franchises of all times and I love hearing your thoughts on each game. I'm looking forward to hearing your thoughts on the Outbreak games!
Thanks! This series is for RE fans, by RE fans.
My dude I had no idea you had such a majestic beard. Keep up the great reviews!
Ha! Thanks man! The beard approves!
This is my first viewing of one of your Retrospective videos and I gotta say, I loved it. You’ve earned yourself a sub.
Awesome to hear! Very happy you like the series, and welcome aboard!
Avalanche Reviews
Thank you very much. (:
When you mentioned playing with a controller and mouse feeling weird, I laughed a bit: there's a device that's basically exactly that concept, called the SplitFish, a nunchuk and mouse controller meant to work with first-person shooters.
Whaoh! That thing looks mega interesting!
Oh yeah, the Outbreak games will be covered soon, but I have to finish the chronicles games first.
I love this game lol. It's so ridiculous. Also I highly recommend trying it with subtitles since I hear they (whether purposely or not) seem to be hilariously incorrect.
Aw man! I would have loved to have included that in the video!!!!
Thanks for this amazing series! Played this game with my huge PS2 Lightgun back in the days and have fond memories of it.
Can't wait for the re7 video Keep up the great work.
Thanks!!! I'm playing through 7 right now.
This retrospective series is literally the coolest thing. Thanks for doing this great videos.
10:40 Is that a......frontflipping tyrant?
Also, wow your voice is super comforting.
Ha! Yes it is, and Thanks!
This game wasn't amazing by any means but it did have an atmosphere that made it frightening.
I agree completely
PunkSoupBlueWood And just like that, the final puzzle piece falls. Thanks bud.
Bruce is my favorite character. He was doing the witty one liners, before they had Leon do that. And if you know which button to push, you can move and shoot at the same time. People credit Outbreak file 2 for doing this first, but it was really this game that did it first.
So Gun Survivor has 4 games, yet Dino Crisis can't get past three? That's criminal :(
I do own this one but it's just a case of finding time to try it
Ha! I never thought of it that way, but yeah that's a real slap in the face.
Bruce looks like Leon and Brad Pitt had a child that went in to be in a 90’s boy band
i remember watching a walkthrough of this game...
Ha! Yeah I can see that being pretty jarring.
Bruce looks like a glitchy Paul Walker.
LOVING these retrospectives. Keep up the good work!
Thanks!
Character design seems to have a strong correlation in regards to the quality of an RE product.
An excellently written review admirably performed and exceptionally executed. Keep em coming man. Love it!
Well damn! Thank you!!
the only game in the series where headshots actually meant something...I wish they did this formula again
It would be cool to see a modern dead aim style game
@@AvalancheReviews I Agree 100%
If you're stumped on what game to do next, I personally would love to see you review the Outbreak games. It'd be cool to see what your perspective of those games are.
I was a teenager when they came out. I loved playing the first one online, despite its flaws. File #2 I didn't like as much, mostly because I thought the levels were nowhere near as good as the first Outbreak's levels.
Anyway, thanks for the cool video. I'm really digging your retrospective series on these games.
Thanks! I'm working on the chronicles games right now, but the outbreak games will have a video pretty soon too.
I agree completely!!! That's essentially what Ive been saying in every episode of this retrospective, since CV.
I don't hate it in theory, it's interesting to see what other less experinced people might be doing and how they would survive in this world.
RE was always about bioweapons tho not zombies.
this game was great when it came out, great atmosphere on the ship, the hum of the background while zombies giving out a scary groan in the distance can be heard, but cant be seen. played it with a pad back then and loved it. it was a totally different feel for the usual tank turning controls.
I'd love to have this game remade for the Nintendo Switch but retconing the story to have Leon and Ada instead of their knock-offs.
Yo Man or even just s remaster with Leon and Ada skins
The game I always bring up whenever RE7 babbies try to dismiss my criticism with "you just hate the first person view!"
Not too surprisingly, few of them have even heard of the Survivor games.
This was genuinely one of my favorite RE spinoffs.
Man! That gun sounds fucking awesome!!!

Excellent tastes 👍
You gonna do an umbrella corps review bro lmao.
i got the game free in a humble bundle and still won't play it
Stinkyremy the only cool part of that game is that in the campaign, it turns out you are HUNK
I'm sure he did and actually enjoyed it. Is that the multiplayer shooting game aye?
Sadly, I think I'll have to.......
I would give it to you for free if I could delete the game from my steam account
TH-cam recommendations on point for once! I loved this! Can't wait to watch everything else on your channel.
Word! Thanks man! Glad that recommendation section is finally doing its job.
Was this a good game? Seems really underrated.
Geeky Girl no. Just no.
I played it when it came out. It’s better with a light gun but it’s not bad. Good luck finding a copy if you want it. This game felt like RE:Outbreak Files to me though, it had ambition but just failed in execution.
It's unique enough to have fun with, and the atmosphere is really great. Very dark, and creepy. Plus, if you use the mouse, the shooting is super fun.
Geeky Girl dead aim is definitely one of the worst old school resident evil. Everything about it is the mess
This game feels like it was specifically made for Wii, shooting with the remote and moving with the nunchuk, weird they didn't port it, would have fit like a glove
You’re hardcore look made me subscribe. I thought u was a skinny clean cut blonde with eyes so green it makes you envy the forest!
Ha!! I get that a lot.
Some could say that with your controller, you had a.... ahem... Dead Aim...
I'll see myself out..
Thanks!! Glad you're liking the series!
PunkSoupBlueWood I believe you haha. Good lord, what a mess.
Kullen64 Dude, Code Veronica has it's fair share of stiff animations too.
I think Mcgivern has easily the gayest hair of any main character in the series
In any series*
I still have all my old RE games and still love all of them :)
Thanks man!! I appreciate the love!
My opinion is just the opposite. I thought 4-6 were loads of fun gameplay wise, but kind of failed in the story/plot department (except for 5, which was decent). I hate 4 especially. The characters were laughably bad (especially the midget zombie pirate), and the plot was just silly at times.
I played it with light gun and I had a great fun time! Characters were passable to me.
I would have liked to, but upscaling old video, and lightgun shooter, just don't mix.
I always felt like this was a resident evil 4 beta 😂 Bruce is Leon and Ada is Fongling
2:48 killed me💀
I’m gonna go out on a limb and say that playing with a guncon 2 controller might be the best way to play this underrated game.
I'm sure it is, but most people don't have crts, so the mouse is the best way to play, for the majority of people who are likely to watch this video.

Gabby Giffords: "And I took that presoanlyl"
Your hard work on this series truly pays off. It really fucking enjoyable.
I'm glad to hear that. Thanks so much!
I really hope this game is available on steam. This game is very nostalgic for me, and it is the game that introduced me to RE.
I like how the charactor moves in third person view before switching to first person view, super classy.
I actually like this game. It was the first re game that I played and got me into them
i think the highlight of this game to me is that awesome opening song; Gunshot, its suuuuper catchy, kind of like the sum41 opening from Obscure :o but my god i WISH id known about the mouse thing! holy shit enduring this game with just a controller was exhausting Dx
Yep! It really was
this game (Resident Evil Dead Aim) was developed using a modified version of the id Tech 3 engine, the same engine used in games such as Quake III Arena and some Quake III based games
Life Saver the tip with the mouse. By coincidence I started it on my PS2 yesterday.. . Thanks man!!!
YES!!!! It's feels so much better!! Glad to pass that little tip along.
Holy crap, i just watched all the other episodes of the retrospective yesterday and was just thinking "i hope he does dead aim, that was such a weird game"
Ha! I can read all of your minds!
i just started this game with my boyfriend last week and we're having a nice experience! the story its bah, but the rest it's ok. Thanks for RE:retrospective, i love it
My pleasure! Cheers!
the PS2 supported anti-aliasing and developers had to manage VRAM usage carefully here , whenever more VRAM was require the developers try to balance the allocation of VRAM resources based on their game's specific needs and performance considerations , same technique was used in ISS PRO and Pro evolution soccer every time there is a goal and celebration cutscene
I fucking love Resident Evil Dead Aim.
I loved it when it first came out, then hated a few years ago, and now I love it again.
I havent played it in about 5 years but I'm sure I'll still love it. Btw your next review should be on the outbreak games!
I bought a guncon specifically for this game. The gun I bought had a D-Pad and several buttons so I didn't need to switch to a controller. Sadly I don't own a CRT anymore, so the gun is useless. Good to know you can use a mouse.
I wrote this game off awhile ago. Now I might habe to give it a try.
I think you should. I liked it a lot.
A fave in highschool for sure! I broke my finger skateboarding and wanted something to play. I had guns from time crisis already. I had this game down to 2hr or less speed runs. I used to play it a ton! I still have it but idk when I played it last. Gun survivor 2 is my favorite.
