      well would you be ok if this culture was preserved by foreigners or just "non-maoris" practicing it (not sure but can you become maori or is this tied to genetics?)? also if maoris dont want to live like maoris you cant force them.

    • @samf8887
      @samf8887 5 ปีที่แล้ว +41

      @@bangtuhauptilagie4866 preservation is multifaceted and a part of that is also recording the culture and integrating that history and customs etc into public knowledge if need be on a global scale. There are other indigenous people's who have lost their cultural history due to westernization and the dominant invasive culture around them gave no hoot that it was lost, and in many cases it was done purposefully to assimilate them not integrate them into the public identity. It was more of invasion and supression by colonizers in an attempt to expand territory and line bank accounts. So yeah....human beings need to do anything to preserve anymore ancient cultures from going extinct no matter the persons race or ethnicity.

The Maori Puerto blood line is gone forever. The last pure blood Maori died back in 93 or 95. In less than 100 years from now Samoa and Tonga Bloodline will die as well sad but true. Worse, for we have no knowledge of our language, where is the language of our ancestors? I've been called blanquito because since I was born and raised in the states and yes I am fluent in Spanish, read and write it, the only time I speak spanish is when the other person is not fluent in English. I won't speak it for the sake of just being Puerto Rican. So I have been asked if I'm racist against my cultural heritage. I tell them no, that first and foremost I'm an American and my language is English, and second that nuestra lengua no es español, that is the language of my ancestor's conquerors that was forced upon them, so why should I have pride in speaking spanish? Soy Taino, Boricua y quiero MI cultura!!! I'm sure many Native Americans can relate.

    I have been told by my father, who fought the Japanese in New Guinea in WW2, that there was a force of maori warriors , that were ordered to take back an airstrip held by the Japanese troops. They Performed a Haka before charging the enemy troops, who threw their rifles away and fled in panic. I thank those brave men for their help in defending democracy.
