    I know this video is more than 5 years old but thank you for making it. I inadvertently bumped the switch last night when I was moving stuffs around in my basement and I powered my furnace down. I came home tonight to a 62 degree house.I’m not normally a do-it-yourselfer but you gave me the confidence to try and it worked! Thank you so much!

    Dude, you saved me from freezing during this winter storm. I couldnt figure out for the life of me where the pilot actually was that I was supposed to light. The illustration on the front looked nothing like what I was looking at and I was so scared I'd blow myself up.
    A million "Thank you"'s

    Thank you kind stranger!! I cannot thank you enough. Today you saved me. In the 5yrs that I’ve owned my house my crawl space flooded after all the snow and then rain we got in the last few days turning off the pilot. Thanks to you I was able to light it up and now my tears are of pure joy and not desperation. Thank you! Thank you!! Thank you!!!

    Thank you so much!
    It was a couple of cold nights here in Canada and I was having trouble getting the furnace lit. It's a 40 year old beast and I thought it was starting to give me trouble. (The last time the repair guy came out here, I ended up being $780 lighter for a thermocouple) and paying $150 just to have my furnace lit was not feasible.
    Turns out I wasn't holding the pilot down long enough. I don't like dealing with electrical or gas (you know things that can kill you) because quite honestly it scares me, but it's great to know I can do this safely and on my own now.
    So thank you, you live up to your last name 👼

    This video was the most helpful re: "How to light the pilot light to your furnace."
    My unit has a separate black knob and red button, and I was unaware that there was a 'Pilot' setting.
    Its kinda cramped in there, and the knob is on the left.....NOT facing outward.
    So I thought there was only ON & OFF.
    What I did......
    Power switch: Off
    Knob: Pilot
    Red button: Pushed all the way & held.
    Lit a match.....held it near pilot/valve...........got a flame!
    1 - plus minute later......released button.........YES!!!!!!!!!!!
    You saved me the cost of a repairman!
    THANKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Yessiree. Thanks... each site I checked was no help in finding the pilot light, but your simple instructions were great, and you said READ what is on the unit's instructions first. In my case, it didn't indicate lighting a match, and assumed from the men of the 1960s that I would know this "general" knowledge... my how my generation has started off in a realm of technology bliss tinkered with ignorance towards the basic building blocks of life. One word of caution... if a unit only has 'on' or 'off', chances are it is an auto (electric) start, and no matches should be used. Peace and Thank you!

    This became VERY relevant and helpful this morning when I discovered our gas furnace wasn't working. Helped me find the pilot light in the first place, which I was able to see was out, and then was able to get it lit again. My furnace has slightly different controls (can only press the override button down from the "off" position, for one), but the video was enough info to be able to tinker/experiment from until I was able to get it going again.

    I am a little bit familiar with a pilot light, no pro by any means, but the furnace we have now the control knob does not have " pilot" on it anywhere, and inside the furnace cover it says, do not attempt to light the pilot manually. So, maybe I better call an HVAC man. Thanks for the video.

    Do you know anything about relighting a furnace that has automatic ignition systems? The instructions in the furnace say to turn the on/off knob to OFF, but the on/off knob in my furnace is stationary. There is a slit in the middle of the knob, and there are two toggle switches, or gas control switches as the instructions call them. Do I flip both of those switches, or just one, and if I flip just one, how do I know which one to flip?

    My control panel lid doesn't slide perfectly into place. There's a small gap on the top left corner. Should I be concerned? Is it better if I shut down the furnace, restart it, then try and fit the panel in place?

    hi John, very helpful video but I'm hoping maybe you can help me with this: my furnace's knob has only on/off, no "pilot" option. I tried both turning it halfway in between & in the "on" position, depressing it while attempting to light the pilot but nothing...thanks for your speedy repsonse!

    • @GodJesusandTheHolySpirit
      @GodJesusandTheHolySpirit  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would try looking closer for the word that says "pilot," maybe get a brighter light? You may have to hold in the knob on the on position while it is being lit

    • @katjappe5986
      @katjappe5986 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1
