Just the basics, clearly explained. 👍 I love the simplicity of these older pilot models. A few basic tools and some pipe goop plus soap and almost anyone can keep them operating properly.
Yeah. I like the simplicity.the yellow flame was from all the dirt and dust caused by the repair. Actually you should watch the flame when the blower comes on. Any flicker could indicate a cracked heat exchanger.
Thanks. I used this and it worked. Mine didn't need a new valve configuration, but I did have to find the pilot output. Which was one of two right near eachother.
This is great. Don't discount the fact it's short. You covered everything. I have the problem you mentioned, but changed the thermocouple and changed out the valve LAST YEAR. Ran fine. Gas company changed out the meter. Flame looks good....but valve shuts itself off after a few minutes. My furnace is about the same vintage as this one. Can a valve go bad in just one year? Seems unlikely. It's a Honeywell.
New thermocouple and pilot and still won't light. Tappan manual light. It hasn't worked since gas company ran new upgrade line from road to the house. Gas man went to relight and couldn't get the pilot to light at all. I'm leaning valve but why would it happen after their service. I clean this annually never had an issue.
@TaddyDigest they said they did. I like to be there for these things to make sure they don't cut corners. But I can call them and say their service hasn't worked since the upgrade and see what they do. But as always they will probably push any issue on the owner. It was bad enough they mixed up the services everyone was being billed wrong. I traced the lines and sent them the correct setup they still sent a guy to do it and then he called in and said I was right and to correct the billing digitally. Human error can and has exist so I can't leave it to be my lack of maintenance. But I'll see if I can find out what updated valve they made for this monster. I upgrade the other furnace to electric start may do the same.
If you are located in Southern California Gas Company Territory they are obligated to get backup and running...it's one of those things we should have checked it before we replaced the Gas Service....it's a write off for Your Utility Company....best of luck in having it repaired!
@arunaround5191 it was air in the gas main I opened the pipe up and it took just under 20 minutes to bleed. This was supposed to have been done by the gas company after they did their service repairs at the road to the house. It's in Western MA.

Yes could be a bad valve. Make sure that they bled the line
