Well 1:30 for a single game action is a bit much, especially for a professional player of Turtenwald's caliber. Seems he gets a bit more leeway in regards to his slow play
I guess I'm in the minority, but I love Bant company. I'm not a fan of Timmy cards like Emrakul being good. Those should stay on the kitchen table imo. But people do tend to oppose whatever is on top.
I happen to not completely agree about Emrakul being purely a Timmy card. Yes, it is a giant flying trampler, but Wizards did a great job of pushing it in such a way that it is also a good Spike card. Heck, I can even see it being a Johnny card as well. I also must complement them in having a lot of the story cards (Dragonlords, Kozilek's Return, and Fall of the Titans come to mind) being also competitive-relevant. If you prefer small, efficient creatures, that's fine, but that is far from the only way to enjoy - or even be competitive in - Magic.
I guess any card that is good is spikey in some sense, but big, flashy creatures are the archetypal Timmy cards. And yeah, I was just talking about my preferences. As I said, I think I'm in the minority. For my own sake though I hope the meta evolves such that it's only playable in like one deck :p
I'm more of a "Anything can work if you try hard enough to make it work" kinda guy and I actually enjoyed using Emrakul in Temur Emerge even though I'm more of a (blue) Control player. Now that UW seems to be back with Kaladesh Temur Emerge still looks like a viable and fun strategy.
What if as an additional rule you would completely control your opponents turn with Emrakul, even his shuffle of his deck when cracking a fetch and then presenting the deck to yourself. That way you could "mana weave" your opponents library to a terrible order. I mean it says "you gain control of target opponent" and part of a players duties is to shuffle his deck, properly sure, but if the deck you present is fine to your opponent it does count as properly shuffled, right?
That will undoubtedly never happen. In terms of "controlling players' turns", it only regards the strategic decisions that they can make. This is why you're no longer allowed to look at your opponent's sideboard during this time. And in that case, rigging your opponent's deck to lose would really make the Promised End better than the Aeons Torn, and that's completely irrational.
Well as soon as you make that a rule, it pretty much means that stacking your deck entirely when you're shuffling would be legal then. After all, whenever you control a player you can't do stuff like make them concede or make any illegal actions.
Brandon Jones It really isn't. Imagine the amount of damage one could do with it in a modern environment where you can have your opponent Bolt + Snapcaster + Bolt + Path on themselves. Or imagine forcing your opponent to Scapeshift themselves down to 2 health. In modern, you could easily cast this around turn 4-5 (by running dredge or ramp).
Well talking in a modern aspect, it isnt horrible, but still isnt great. Big emrakul is still way better in every aspect. I wouldnt expect seeing it in any top modern decks anytime soon. It doesnt do what you want it to in that format
Brandon Jones I don't even think that that's true. In modern, you simply CAN'T bring big Emrakul out efficiently without having to cheat her out (eg Nahiri). Cheating her out makes you miss the cast trigger, and there are a finite amount of ways to do so in the first place. Hardcasting her is too difficult to justify not just running Kozilek or Ulamog as the wincon. Emrakul, the Promised End, on the other hand, can be cast for as low as five mana (all eight card types, though that'll never happen), and is a 7 drop most of the time (lower than any other Eldrazi titan). Not only that, but she has protection from most removal that has become staple in modern (Path, obviously Bolt, Anguished Unmaking, Abrupt Decay), and her cast trigger does exactly what you'd want it to do in every matchup (no deck in modern can handle being sabotaged like that). Even if she's Mana Leaked, that 6-8 mana is made worth simply by fizzling everything in your opponent's hand and making bad attacks. Honestly? She was made with modern in mind, and there will be quite a few decks running her in the future.
PalPlays You have a good point, but i guarantee that it wont see as much play as you think, and it certaintly wont be winning a modern open or anything. Theres just way to much graveyard hate in modern for you to be able to cast it early
That's bs that Owen under paid for Emarakul twice, Luis should have been in the finals. The judges need to butt in when someone makes a mistake that falsely puts them in the finals. He got 2 warnings at the end of game 4 he should have already been disqualified. I like Owen as a player but LSV should have been in the finals!!!
Owen had 7 mana up and 3 Spiders with Ishkanah still on the field while LSV was tapped out. Did I miss something because I think he could have just used the ability to make LSV lose life right? Either on his turn or LSV.
Owen turtenwald is just a cry baby. I'll smile while winning but give mad looks when I'm losing. Just not this game but he yes warned so much more then other players. They should've disqualified him and gave LSV to go to the finals
LSV: "I've never taken a turn this long." Beautiful.
Hilarious.
LSV is always the winner
Have you ever noticed LSV backwards is VSL. Luis is the vintage super league.
what time in the vid?
Well 1:30 for a single game action is a bit much, especially for a professional player of Turtenwald's caliber. Seems he gets a bit more leeway in regards to his slow play
want to root for LSV but dont want to root for Bant Company
One of my favorite matches in a while
34:55 That shuffling is so satisfying
That avacyn flip was nuts in game 1. So dope
Wanted LSV to make the finals . Hate CoCo's gut but still..... its LSV .
Plays the deck so silky smooth
Luis Scott Vargas actually makes Bant company look cool
to be fair LSV makes every deck look kool....well most of the time lol

13 cards in mainboards? That's spooky and perfect.
You will be missed Randy.
What set is the lands Owen is using from? They're sweet!
They're APAC lands
The island and mountain are APAC, I'm 99% sure the forests are 1996 arena promo's
The Gnarlwood from spell queller coulndt be played right? because lsv bounced one from the board?
it's unplayable until your next turn, it happened on luis' turn
at what time?
1° round was amazing!!!
where did they get all those old school lands from?
why did yall release this in 1080p only i cant watch it now my internets be to slow
Other resolutions are available now. I think it just takes a bit of time for them to appear when the video is first uploaded.
you can change the quality to lower (theres settings right bottom corner of the video)
when they first released it it was only in 1080 it hadnt been uploaded in a lower resolution
Lol at 57:00 the amazing cutscene of Ian with coffee with the RICH HAGON banner below his name I love the screw ups in this footage
While I don't detest CoCo, I can't wait for it to rotate out of standard. It'll make room for soooooo many new decks.
I wonder if Luis could have taken this if he had that sixth mana in the final game for Sub Angel.
If anyone ever asks what tempo means in a card game, show them 5:00-6:26. Ridiculous.
At 58 minutes ian duke says hi
Omg jimmies russtled
Luis my man!
72 pro tours. Jesus. THANKS RANDY WE LOVE YOU!
there havent even been 72 pro tours......
+Blazikens Dance This was PT #101

Did luis play game five missing land drops with no queller and company? And no sideboarded cards other than dead angel? This dude is a champion.
57:47 - hahaha!
@29:00 Owen was stunned, he drew a island from the top, if he knew it would be the case he wouldn't block with the dryad haha
Marshall and randy both commented on it while the judge was talking to Owen
22:35 Batman sneezed directly into his hands
2:57 who screams "NO"
19:00 And people say that this Emrakul is bad!
because it is bad. showing one instance that it was good in doesnt make a card any better.

I soo wanted Luis to win this. :(
I don't think anyone was rooting for Owen Turtensalt tbh.
That's a bummer. Such a great match, and then lost to a missed land drop. :/
Owen rip?
LSV is the goat of magic
I love Owen's game face but glad he can smile too! :)
Why didn't owen use ishkana's activated ability to end the game in the 5th game when LSV had 1 life?
I noticed no one was talking about it, not even the commentators. Must be some unwritten rule of conduct... They wouldn't like me at those events
He has no black mana.
owen should name the deck temurge
I really wanted LSV to win 😞
thanks for the spoiler in the description lolwtf
sick match! surprised that 1) owen doesnt know how much emrakul costs TWICE, and 2) the judges didnt punish him at ALL for this TWICE!!!!!!
Was a mistake from the Judge imao, since return was in the yard on casting. It disapeart after casting, since then it triggers.
could you please explain that more detailed? at what time? what was the problem?
God, watching this now is so painful. Emrakul the promised WIN, am i right? So frustrating.
Gaby making a cameo

Where are you getting this info?
+Jerome OfMarmite watch the games I saw him try and underpay at least once
+Meelo was this play definitively an underplay or is this person talking out of their ass?
this is serious ur right.
Watch it round 4 the Judge talks to Owen and they comment on it
LSV not playing storm
Owen had 7 mana up and 3 Spiders with Ishkanah still on the field while LSV was tapped out. Did I miss something because I think he could have just used the ability to make LSV lose life right? Either on his turn or LSV.
He has no black mana
Thank you, I was wondering that too.
not sure why their pronunciation of Dromokas Command annoys me so lol
Owen turtenwald is just a cry baby. I'll smile while winning but give mad looks when I'm losing. Just not this game but he yes warned so much more then other players. They should've disqualified him and gave LSV to go to the finals
Ew, because Ishkanah can kill with its effect but Owen is playing Temur, he can't just OTK
Watches after Emrakul is banned. :(
Abbot of Keral Keep lol
It gives me a hard on to watch the Emma mind control game going on, your own cards being ripped up piece by piece. So satisfying.
wait so owen underpaid twice for emrakul? isn't that unfair as fuck?
Remember how much everybody loved Owen? And then completely turned their backs on him after he allegedly "harassed" a girl.
Owen is disgusting and loves nothing but winning
While I don't detest CoCo, I can't wait for it to rotate out of standard. It'll make room for soooooo many new decks.
yeah, no we ll just have to deal Emrakul running wild. Would love to see more players find a good aggro deck that works in standard
