It wasn't so much that Watts bought McGurik's territory--he broke off after a disagreement. Watts and McGuirk settled that Watts would take the southern part of the territory (Louisiana, Southern Arkansas, and Mississippi--where he had to deal with an ongoing lawsuit from the Culkin's). McGurik didn't "get out of the business" at that point, he continued running the northern half of the territory (Oklahoma, Northern Arkansas, and parts of Southern Missouri). In fact, because McGuirk had lost so many of his profitable towns in the split, he ended up "re-opening" some weekly towns in his territory that he had abandoned years before. Springfield, MO is an example of this--right after the split, McGuirk started running Springfield every week again, after abandoning weekly shows there way back in 1971.

I know firsthand people in Southern Missouri (Springfield and Joplin) were happy to see Mid South wrestling again when it came back, as he had become a "wrestling desert" for some time. McGuirk had most of the I-44 corridor from Springfield to Wichita Falls, TX (which I still wonder what happened to Wichita Falls---I guess it went to Fritz Von Erich as he saw that as open town for World Class?--ditto with Lawton)

Bill had connections with Eddie Graham, Fritz Von Erich and Paul Bosch who were NWA promoters. He worked independently, but had connections with NWA internally.

At this point Crockett pretty much controlled the NWA.With the exception of World Class most of the other territories besides Crockett really didn't have much sway

During this period World Class was pretty much dead along with David and Mike Von Erich. The NWA championship told Fritz that they didn't want to have anything to do with Kerry so Fritz pulled out of the NWA in 87 at the same time that Bill Watts did.

Pro Wrestling USA was a good idea, in theory, that I wished could have worked. It was doomed from the start though.

sorry dumbass here so Mid South wrestling mid Atlantic everything basically was NWA and it just went into different spots At the very very beginning it was just mcmahon and Crockett ?

Clueless. Fritz left the NWA in 1986. Bill Watts was never an NWA member.

I think the best way to describe Mid South was an "independent" territory, maybe? They were independent in the sense that they were not affiliated with any of the "big three", however, they were dependent on their guys getting a chance at someone's world title from one of the "big three". I guess that made them unique in a way--when other wrestling promotions were either one or the other---independent or an NWA territory. Was anyone else doing this?

He kinda comes off as a "hardcore" fan who only goes off dirt sheets & internet chatter without actually watching a match, doesn't he??
