$700 a week back then was like making $2674 a week now. Except, gas was $1.20 per gallon. A decent hotel was $30 per night. Breakfast Lunch and Dinner was probably $12 a day. A long neck bottle of beer was probably $1. They we’re doing damn good.
Gas was $1.20 a gallon when I started driving commercially in 1995. In the 70s, it was anywhere between a quarter and a dollar per gallon, depending on whatever event was being pushed by the news media to scare people.
I got really curious about that tag match he said was a disaster against the Mexicans. I think that was Clash of Champions XIX(19) vs El Texano and Silver King in the first round of the NWA Tag Team title tournament.
That’s the one. I remembered that match. Out of all the matches in that N.W.A. world tag team tournament, including the ones at great American Bash a few weeks later, that match was easily the worst of the whole tournament.
I know the one. It was the Michael Hayes and Jim Garvin version of the free birds versus the silver Kings! It was on a Clash of champions on free TV. And it was in the tournament for the NWA world tag team championships in 1992. And that was during the Bill Watts era. Out of all the matches, that one was the worst of the tournament including the second half of the tournament which was on pay-per-view at the great American Bash. He is 100% correct! Their second match, which was against a Japanese team from new Japan, which I think was against Hiro Hasse and the late Shinya Hashimoto, not the greatest match was leagues better than the match they had against silver Kings.
Check out the debut episode of Cheap Seats if you can find it. He and Kerry Von Erich wrestled as a tag team, to which they replied "They look like a buff Hall and Oates".
I know when Watts ran Georgia as best I remember it didn’t seem that great. Georgia had been ran by promoter Paul Jones since 1944(not No.1 Paul Jones) then Ray Gunkel and Don McIntyre bought in and then McIntyre sold his part out and a few years later Gunkel died. Then it was Tom Renesto and Jody Hamilton (The original two Assassins) and then Gene and Ole Anderson (when Jim Herd stayed out of the way)and they all did great but when Watts took over and then Bischoff well let’s just say that’s why we only have WWE as the only major wrestling promotion to watch now. I will say HHH does a lot better job than Vince ever did.
I Love Jimmy Jamm! Take away the gray hair, and he's still Gorgeous Jimmy Garvin. He must have dentures, cuz he's dippin' , and doesn't have brown azz teeth.

I remember his feud in Mid-South with the Super Destroyer. I saw him wrestle in Monroe many times.
