This is my favourite how to video for seamly 2D. Rachel is clearly highly intelligent and the best at explaining how to use this software. Everything she said was easy to understand as she explained it perfectly. Thank you
This is the most well done tutorial I've ever watched - clear speech, great pace, succinct, and all the extra tips you provide are all very useful. Every minutes is packed with valuable information! Other videos are often unnecessarily drawn out so I usually speech up others' videos and skip large chunks, but for yours I pause it and re-watch many parts! Very impressive. Great job! thank you :)
So glad you shared this on instagram, I had no idea this software even existed! Now I feel like doing some drafting is a lot more doable. Thank you so much!
Thank you so much for your videos. I'm glad I found you since I have been searching "Valentina"I have had this program for a while but haven't done anything with it. I love how clear you explain everything, and when I got to this video I was excited to see you are using the exact same book my drafting class used.
Thanks for making these videos. I needed software to draw a pattern with (which I don't do very often) and I use Linux now, so no Illustrator anymore for me. I found Seamly and stumbled on these videos learning how to drive it. Already I'm able to use it to draw out a pattern for what I'm making from another tutorial!
Hi, I've been making my way through seamly2D since recently. I noticed that you are taking so many steps to find the Arc point on a line. There is a simple tool for this. The 3rd tool on the right under the point catagory. (the one with the line and arc ) It's called Intersection point of line and arc. Thanks for your series of videos! Couldnt find any other helpful tutorials online. cheers!!
Thanks so much for this! I've only just started but I look forward to finishing my block. It would be helpful if you listed maybe in the description which measurements we need to have input into Seamly Me before beginning the project. I put in a bunch to start but not the right ones so I keep having to pause and update. Cheers!
Hi there, well the idea is that I’m using this book to walk you through the software and it’s tools. Rather than showing you how to make a block. If that makes sense? Also, did you see my previous measurements video, that’s got some info in there. You need to have ownership of this book in order to actually follow as if it’s a tutorial. Saying that, if you actually google this book, you might find what you’re looking for online on the first page if you catch my drift 😉
I had the same thought that a list of the measurements would be helpful. I'll share here for anyone else in future who may want it: body measurements to put in SeamlyMe for this tutorial: neck_side_to_waist_f shoulder_tip_to_shoulder_tip_f neck_front_to_waist_f bust_arc_f shoulder_tip_to_waist_front bustpoint_to_shoulder_tip shoulder_length bustpoint_to_bustpoint across_chest_f custom measurements: @inch @one_eighth @one_quarter @three_sixteenths @dartplac_HJA
hi there! its code is H05 - you can find all info on seamlyme and the measurements on the wiki I mention in video 1. heres a link to the diagram static.miraheze.org/seamlywiki/a/a1/Seamly2d-body-measurements_20230112.svg
Thank you for an excellent introduction. It's really good of you to explain how the formulae work. It looks like a cross between Excel and AutoCAD. I have the Aldritch book, but I'm not sure if it gives this type of breakdown, if not - thank you for a good book suggestion for starting pattern drafting, too. Two thumbs up from me.
Hi, Thanks so much for the great videos, I used the software last year and found your recourses fantastic for reminding me! Can I ask if you are using this on a MAC or a PC - I have it on my PC, but can't manage to load it to my MAC - any suggestions would be fantastic - also can I ask if you can point me to a good source for videos on using Ai to make patterns, I have never gone down that route before - and would like a good place to start if you know of one - perhaps you have some plans to do some. Many thanks again for the great content.
Hello! I’ve used it on both Mac and pc with no issues. These videos were screen recorded on my husbands PC but I use this app regularly on my Mac too. I just downloaded the Mac version from their website. As for AI videos I don’t I’m sorry. I’m currently using a block I made in Seamly that I then exported to illustrator to tweak while I change the fit when toiling the real life pair. That’s easy enough. I’m also excitedly taking apart my fitted and adjusted toile and projecting my pattern onto it. Then tweaking the illustrator file to match my changes. The projection allows me to compare it in real time. It’s great!
@@MinimalistMachinist Yes I saw that on your Insta! I am part of a group that uses Cameo pattern drafting software and they are all going crazy about projecting at the moment. Thanks so much for your reply on Christmas Eve and have a wonderful Christmas !
I've been watching the videos in sequence- I noticed you mentioned that you made a custom measurement for the last point (dart placement- @dartplacement_HJA) near the end of the video @21:01 and I am wondering how you got to this custom measurement. I use Helen Joseph Armstrong's book all the time, and I believe she supplements the measurement from a chart, but just wanted to make sure that's something you did also? I've had 50% luck following the rules from the chart
That was my problem too. I think I've found the answer. When you look at the Standard Measurement Chart at page 40 of Helen's book (5th ed.), you see number 19 Waist Arc Front. For all sizes you can substract 1/2" and then devide by 2. That gives you the dart placement at number 20 below it. I am a bigger size than what's in the table too, so this formula is more than welcome.
Have you passed the point where I realise my lines are the wrong length? Watch all the way through I show how to correct it if I remember rightly! It was a while ago I made these x
Hi im having the same problem!! 3:31 in the video, i loaded the measurements but still dont see the neck side to waist when i type it in or any other known measurement
I am not a woman so I cannot measure myself for measurement, is there any book, or resource you recommend that provides basic measurements that I can work with in seamly2d?
Of course! This is a standard instruction in the Helen Joseph Armstrong book (and others). It simply means to draw a line at a right angle (90 degrees) perpendicular from the line/point it mentions. Hope this helps
@@MinimalistMachinist Check! I'm getting excited about using this program. It kind of reminds me of the excel cells. Could I ask you were you downloaded Helen's pdf.? I found a site; "overtheroadtruckerdispatch" dot etc promising a free month trial of ebooks to read. I'm always leery. Is there a safe place to download from? Hope to get all squared up soon! Thanks
Momzilla you could try searching for this book second hand via eBay? I don’t have a URL for you. There is no safe place to download illegal copies of books I’m afraid
@@MinimalistMachinist I don't have any pirated software on my computer and I don't even download youtube videos. I just took a look at Kijiji and saw a copy of the book. Just waiting for a response. Helen's new book had some wonderful reviews. LOL Took the time to look at the earlier additions. Fashions change, but not really. I am just so looking forward to making a pattern with sharp lines to cut, and my side seam matching up. Would be interested to know how to get around a FBA with this program! Thanks!

It’s been a while but I think I just used my own measurement since I’m plus size and HJA charts are for straight sized folk.

Hi. Is Seamly2D and Valentina are the same?
Thank you..
Hey when I type in neck side to waist or anything in the input data nothing shows up as a result do you know why this is?

Where did you explain what a dart point is? I guessed @Dart_HJA was equal to 20 and I was wrong.
found the answer peeking in the dialog at 9:38
