Honestly I feel that the loss of cultural identity when it comes to school clubs in most American schools is the reason why men, or overall just people, don't fight "for honor" anymore. What I mean is that schools in other countries has more cultural ties than we do, like how Japanese schools still practice archery and karate as confirmed curriculums (Positive I spelt thag wrong). I know some schools here in the States still offer it but the education system itself doesn't on a mass scale; there was no archery club in my school, fencing was never considered, and martial arts was never popular. Yet it wasn't until I took a martial arts class for self-defense that I came across some awesome people that taught me to never back down when it came to the lives of myself and my loved ones, it also helped that my teacher was just so passionate about it that he genuinely believed in the "heart of karate" as if it was his Bible. That's just my two cents.

Great video on one of my favorite subjects. As for whether dueling is "outlawed" the issue is more ambiguous than many people realize. In the USA, state laws can vary. The issue actually boils down to how the prosecutor wants to interpret laws. Assault is a crime. Two guys fighting by mutual consent isn't necessarily illegal. To what extent are they engaging in "deadly conduct" (which is illegal). Are they doing it in public (disorderly conduct), or in a non-public place (not disorderly conduct). And that's only the criminal law side - one also needs to be concerned with civil law (getting sued). You get the point. For those in the American military, they are specifically prohibited from dueling. This can be applied to some former members such as retirees, who remain subject to the misnamed Uniform Code of Military Justice UCMJ for the rest of their lives. There was one particularly dishonorable jarhead ... err.. excuse me .. Marine Corps captain ... whom I definitely would have challenged had it not been specifically prohibited. Knowing him, he would have hidden behind the law like the coward he was rather then defending his actions and his honor. At least I have the satisfaction of knowing I am the better man and he will die (if he's not dead already) in a state of dishonor. You see, it's not just about the "tangible" benefits of honor, but about honor being its own reward. In more recent times I considered challenging a local politician - a prosecutor who failed to honor his oath of office. (I suppose that could start a dangerous precedent, couldn't it?) I may still do it - the main impediment being that anyone willing to act as my second would also be subject to persecution by the system that led to my justification for wanting to challenge him in the first place. Still, the issue has not been completely put to rest. I'll keep looking.

Did men stop dueling for honor, or did they simply change how they duel for honor? How many fights have there been between two individuals because one disrespected the other? Is that a duel? I consider it to be a duel.
My brother and I were discussing school shootings, and he made an interesting observation: kids tend to video-document school fights and post them on social media-so the apparent “loser” of a fight might never live it down! Of course he’s going to shoot up the school later.
Men stopped dueling for a good reason, actually: a weak but honest man is more manly than a strong but dishonest man, so we should hold the former above the latter.
No. A man should be both. Weakness is never an excuse. Despite that, people nowadays are not honest at all, because most of them are afraid to upset someone. Nowadays, most people are just incredibly weak
There is a difference between duelist and dirtbag. Men have always fought for a variety of reasons - duels were fought between gentlemen over their honor. The people to whom you refer are not gentlemen, and have no honor to defend.
@@dougearnest7590 When men fight over slights and reputation that is honor by definition. The men you judge as “Un-gentlemanly” would gladly have a duel with you for slighting them in this way. You would run from the fight and they wouldn’t.
It occurs to me tha a central part of the notion of "fighting for honor," especially when it's made a backbone of a man's character, is that it leads to all of the ideas of honor being written by and for men who either like fighting, or are good at fighting, or both. That could well include people with violent tempers, antisocial personalities (like psychopaths and sociopaths), Intermitten Explosive Disorders, bigots of all kinds, and just plain bullies. And they could find ways around the rules, too, just to commit murder. So while the original idea may been to impose honorable principles on warlike men and make them better, it too often worked the opposite way: imposing warlike values on honorable men, and making them worse. We eventually decided that at best, this approach didn't work.
Well, unfortunately dueling still happens. It's just more casual. But step on some guy's new Jordans and you might find him insisting on defending his honor.
Bro make a video on briefs or v shape underwear. My friends are making fun of me because my brieflines are showing through my pants and for my age as i am 19. There is a stigma behind them and even you avoid wearing them in your GRWM videos, can you make a vid on advicing me pls
I dont think dueling went away. Think about all the street fights you see on TH-cam. The "catching a fade" or whatever they're calling challenging someone to a street fight these days
They didn't stop dueling. They just send thousands of young and impressionable people instead to face the other guy's thousands of young and impressionable people.
Why do Klingons come to mind? Death before dishonor! In the steampunk world, we have tea dueling because HM Victoria was losing many of her gentlemen so she initiated tea dueling.
The Nazis (horrible - this is not supportive) were known to have dueled among mid and high ranking officials to measure toughness. Thus many of them had facial scars associated. One example of a scientist snuck through was Kurt Debus who was deemed “necessary scientist” and he became director of the Apollo program and NASA covered up his history (quieted it). It makes me cringe.
It wasn't the Nazis necessarily, but the German culture. Many of the high ranking officers bore dueling scars they received long before (guy with mustache we're not allowed to name) came to power.

Great video, but why the clickbait title? Women still dueling never got addressed.
When did Men stop being Real Men? That conversation would have various dates depending on which generation you ask. 😂
My Dad would say “They don’t make men these days” he’s in his 70s, I catch myself saying it now. 😂
Good suggestion!
The lawyers, man...
Duels then: We shall meet at noon and settle this with swords!
Duels now: 1v1 me on Rust
Dual in india will be hell of diff . Like dhooryodha-bheema , Arjuna- karna , ram-ravan ,etcetc. There is this fighting styles mallayudham (wrestling), mustiyudham(boxing), gadhayudham(mace or club fight) ,kadgayudham(sword fight) , chathrayudham (archers fight arrows) , silambham or karrasamu(stick fight) . We found hella ways to kill each other .😂😂😂☺️
Did I miss the part where he explained why didn't stop dueling? And also, women still duel?
John Leguizamo
@@theburningman5047 Which is how you're acting right now. Power is too strong of an enemy for you, so instead you choose feelings as your enemy.
@@DiotimaMantinea-gc1uw Wow. That is incredibly insightful.
Modern cryptography rests on the group theory invented by Évariste Galois who died in a duel at the age of only 20 years old in 1832.
The Rifleman was the best
hi
Dueling happens in black neighborhoods every day
Racist.
There is a difference between duelist and dirtbag. Men have always fought for a variety of reasons - duels were fought between gentlemen over their honor. The people to whom you refer are not gentlemen, and have no honor to defend.
@@penultimateh766 🤣 says more about your prejudice than facts of the matter
@@dougearnest7590 When men fight over slights and reputation that is honor by definition.
The men you judge as “Un-gentlemanly” would gladly have a duel with you for slighting them in this way. You would run from the fight and they wouldn’t.
@@TheSultan1470 MMA is the most popular ‘sport’ given how many people train & compete.
Thank goodness we no longer resort to violence and have learned that might does Not equal right.
Title's the clue. Men started behaving more like women: gentlemen.
Lol amusing to think that despite pistols at dawn being all over western movies. It wasn't the cowboys fighting with guns, but the British nobility XD
We compete today with status and money and social media clout.
There is a stigma behind them and even you avoid wearing them in your GRWM videos, can you make a vid on advicing me pls
definitely blaming it on the lawyers, men nowadays would be far more civil if their words had actual consequences. aka talk shit get hit.
Gang violence = less formal duels
They realized the princess was just using them for entertainment? Or they just realized girls weren't worth the stab wounds
I dont think dueling went away. Think about all the street fights you see on TH-cam. The "catching a fade" or whatever they're calling challenging someone to a street fight these days
@@TheSultan1470 is there really a difference? I'd imagine people dueled over the same kind of petty things people fight over these days
🎩
They didn't stop dueling. They just send thousands of young and impressionable people instead to face the other guy's thousands of young and impressionable people.
This needs to be brought back. Can you imagine a gender woke leftist dueling someone like Crowder? Lol
It has gone collective, for instance war between nations or civil wars, individuality is not so important now a days
Me and my buddies use to just put on boxing gloves or wrestled😂 imagine dueling
Legalize consensual dueling!

Remind me of John Wick duel
Moving is easier than dying
Because of the law
You should make a video on Senators dress code since it's a topic that seems to need some light put on it. Because who better then you?
❤ when men were Men.
Tis but a scratch
honor still there.
That ending LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOO
Because dueling is illegal. Win the duel, get 25 - to - life
Twitter wars became more honourable.
Cause rap battles are cooler.
I've seen rap battle before, my cousin even used to partake in them, and as fun as they are to watch I'd rather go through a whole day of political debates on TV over 10 minutes rap battles
With today's technology, there are a lot of ways we could accomplish dueling with non-lethal results.
I'm intrigued by the possibilities of bringing back dueling. What sort of duels did you have in mind?
Gay chicken was the modern version of this before everyone unironically turned gay (which is okay…)
