@@roaarylion5214 The ninja make use of their true potential every time they use their elemental powers as unlocking the true potential allows one to control a power without the golden weapons. The "floating" just kinda got removed sincenit didn't fit into modern Ninjago.
Jay can use his true potential. If you can naturally use your elemental power on our own you have unlocked your true potential, so since Jay was using his lightning like normal in the tournament it means Ras trained him to use his powers and true potential just as good as before just for a different side

Another piece of evidence, the Overlord CAN"T die. In S2 E11, The Motion SD says that one of the Source Dragons has died. So, unless they've reincarnated themselves into Riyu or something, the Overlord is not a Source Dragon due to them being able to revive himself as he's a part of the balance.

I never really thought the Overlord was a source dragon I always saw him on the same level as the FSM but not on the power level of a source dragon since it seems like those guys are even more powerful than the FSM

If the Overlord WAS a source dragon then the FSM would have to be one, because he is a part of the FSM who would be able to turn into a dragon himself thanks to his parentage. But yeah I agree Tanner, the Overlord isn't a Source Dragon.

I think the theory of the overlord being the FSM’s rejected oni side is much better and I think him being a source dragon would be weird since he has an elemental power and none of the other source dragons have elemental powers
Dude, really one him being the rejected side of FSM was a theory that Tommy had and a possibility that could be true, but since he is no longer working on Ninjago after crystallized, that is something that he can no longer confirm. Second source dragons have elemental powers where the hell do you think the element powers came from? They come from the source dragons. Third, his element of darkness is there because he is the literal embodiment of evil and darkness because he is the literal opposite of the light the yin side of the balance.

I want to clear up something that feels like a misconception...the Overlords original form is NOT a dragon, it is the blob of darkness we see him in when he communicates with Garmadon and Harumi
Misako called his dragon form his "original form" because its a form he had assumed that was nothing like anything in drawings about him, so it was an assumption on her part

I had this exact theory as well, but I have another. Maybe the overlord isn't a source dragon but was created by the source dragons. Like you said the overlord just appeared one day due to the FSM influence on the realm with his side of the balance, maybe the source dragons seeing potential destruction of ninjago, created the overlord to actually save it by keeping the balance and gave him the form of a dragon because that's what the source dragons are

I love this theory. Especially since the Overlord can change size like the dragon of Focus. He's intertwined with the history of the world, like the source dragons are integral to the realms. I don't think we'll see The Overlord in DR, but we'll prolly find out more about him, along with other Realm History. But y'know, if he's not a current Source Dragon, I think he's a "Fallen" Source Dragon.
Also I’d like jay getting to remember who he is and unlock his true potential near th end of part one of season 3

I like to imagine that the Overlord is a byproduct of FSM Oni powers, this is my head cannon do to the fact that the Golden power that Lloyd and FSM have shown seem to be more aligned with dragons. Maybe the Overlord is like what the Golden Power is but in the opposite direction. After all every act of creation needs an echo of destruction.
My thought on the overlord is that much like how wu and garmadon are light and dark brothers respectively, the overlord was the FSM's more monstrous brother
Finally others are starting to see the resemblance in overlord and the source dragons
Honestly just the fact that Overlord doesn't really seem THAT strong is one reason why I dislike this theory. I'm not saying that all Source Dragons have to be of equal strength, but I just don't really see Golden Master Lloyd defeating a Source Dragon. I think that the Source Dragons should be more or less relative to each other in power and Overlord ain't there. I think that it's pretty fair to assume that any single Source Dragon can easily annihilate a realm or even all 16 of them and I don't see Overlord doing that. Also we know that the Source Dragons got nerfed after the merge or at least they became more vulnerable to attacks. All in all the factor that for me breaks this theory is Overlord's power. Although I must mention that his energy form/ball form is kinda similar to the way Ras's master communicates with him, not identical though.

Edit: Hasn't it been mentioned that Source Dragons aren't really dragons and that Overlord's dragon form was his true form? If it has then that kinda pokes a couple holes into this theory.
The FSM needs the Source dragon's help to stop the merge the first already proved they are stronger than him and this is the same FSM who can create realms also its stayed many times that the FSM and the Overlord are equals
Honestly, and personally, I believe that the overlord is more than likely related if not the dark half of the first Spinjitzu master. My personal belief is, he is like a sibling of the first sibling since he has more in common with oni and dragon. Then specifically one or the other.

there’s n theory: overlord may be the eighth source dragon but left due to some conflict and maybe after crystalized he must’ve killed that other source dragon that motion dragon mentioned and is slowly forming his vessel in that body and then at the right moment he can pop out as a new dragon but he wouldn’t be ras master cause he’s probably still weak to use those powers like that that wouldn’t make sense if he would be the master but when the master of ras is revealed then maybe the overlord would probably make a comeback too and obliterate ras master before the planned reverse effect of the merge happens and maybe at the finale of dragons rising before the final battle we see that the overlord will now want to take over the merged realms which will force ras and his master if it hasn’t been killed team up with the ninjas and every allies and boom another endgame battle but this time the story is written right unlike crystalized
The overlord could return because if you remember back whenever he was returning in crystallized, Gardon says that the more evil that was growing the overlord built-up, and now we have a bunch of evil
I like my theory better, and it's that:
Overlord was confirmed to exist before creation [Soo most likely even before 1st realm], but he needed a good counterpart that would have golden power, and there is no treace of any being that was represented with gold, controlled many elements... Except for a 7 headed source dragon. Maybe the "Picture" we saw in DR S2 P2 wasn't just a "myth", but maybe really, before long time ago, even before creation a 7 Headed Source Dragon controlling all elemental power [Including Golden Power (Excluding Darkness {And Maybe excluding power of amber})] was at war with True Form Overlord [Because: True Form Overlord> Ancient Overlord (One Fsm fought against)> Dragon Overlord> Crystal King Overlord], and after some time, either:
1. 7 Headed Source Dragon Split himself appart making Fsm and giving him his golden power [Since Mistake said that Fsm ,,A child ARRIVED, born of 2 worlds", and not ,,A child WAS BORN of 2 worlds"], making Overlord downgrade to his Ancient Form to be equal to Fsm [Or maybe even lower form for a brief moment since Fsm Still neded to master his power]
2. Fsm "Creation/Birth" separated 7 Headed Source Dragon [And the rest goes as in "1."]

The source dragons are like much older than Ninjago aren’t they and it’s literally stated in the show the overlord is the embodiment of evil and darkness but I wouldn’t be surprised if he was secretly manipulating things again he had basically orchestrated everything the ninja had ever faced from the first three seasons, he have been manipulating things in the shadows. I wouldn’t be surprised if he was doing his own thing after all he could never truly die as long as there is conflict, he will return.
I feel that u brought up all the reasons it would the overlord. And I would actually enjoy that. Then we could get him as a large source dragon set, maybe even 2 next year or early 2026

You know whats interesting? the overlord originaly forms in a dragon shape whereas the first spinjutsu master forms as an oni shape because he was born from oni and dragon and as his oposite the overlord formed (Lloyd is in his golden dragon form when fighting overlord) . But later in crystalized the overlord is oni form and the elements of creation take dragon form. (lloyd took oni form)

I think one thing many people miss is that the Overlord is nowhere close in power to the source dragons (and if there were source oni like some say, he therefore wouldn’t be at their level either). The first spinjitsu master was able to create a stalemated situation with the overlord until the overlord made the stone army, and there is no way the first spinjitsu master could stand a chance against a source dragon. We know this because in one scene when Lloyd is presented to the source dragons, one of the source dragons says that Lloyd is one of theirs and is a descendant of the first, which is most likely referring to the first spinjitsu master (Lloyd’s grandfather). If the first spinjitsu master got his powers from a source dragon, he must be weaker than a source dragon (and probably by a very large margin). Therefore, the first spinjitsu master would’ve instantly lost against the overlord if the overlord were a source dragon or source oni.
This might be true because if you look at the shield piece in the gong of shattering builds of official sets the face ont it resembles the overlord
I’m speaking with this speculation. Source Oni. In season 9 we saw wall paintings of the Oni form much like season 16 overlord form. Again in season 16 the overlord says “a form worthy of my power”. Maybe the oni unlike the dragon knew about the ultimate oni- the source Oni. And maybe these source Oni were the 3 Oni warlords. And maybe only the source Oni had access to the overlords Oni form. And let’s say, like all other times, history is hiding the truth. Maybe there were actually 4 source oni. But the overlord was more corrupt so history hid the fact that he was a source oni leading to the first battle when ninjago was created. And since the oni mask of vengeance still hasn’t been destroyed maybe the oni warlord/source oni with the power of that mask returned as lord Ras’s master. Since we don’t really know what happened to the oni warlords, maybe they were being hunted by the source dragons and they split their power into masks. If the masks were destroyed, so would the oni warlords be destroyed. Therefore, I think this is a good theory

No, that was a personal theory that Tommy had but was never fully confirmed by the show or the law and since he has no longer working on Ninjago, that theory can no longer be applied because it was never fully made canon

To address the reason regarding recycling a character being boring, I hope the writers would bring the Overlord back in a fresh new form rather than his old "Golden Master" form or his 'floating glob' form.
I'd be excited to see Overlord's return in a form we haven't seen before. Maybe have the Overlord possess an avatar to exist. Or maybe use the Overlord to establish the power level of the Forbidden Five by having them k*ll the Overlord or perhaps his avatar. Who knows?
