Rick's a friend of mine. My uni caving club bumped into him once in the mid 90s and discovering he lived nearby invited him to pop along to the pub where we met every week if he ever fancied a friendly beer. One of those beers was just after this trip. We found out he'd just returned from France and asked if he'd had a good trip. The conversation went something like this: Rick: "Yeah not bad". Me: "Manage to do any caving?" Rick: "Yeah a bit." Me: "Anything good?" Rick: *shrugs*"Yeah it was ok." Trying to get Rick to talk about his exploits is like trying to get blood out of stone!🤣 Bear in mind we were all keen cavers who were really interested in this stuff (though not cave divers, so there was no threat of poaching) and he hardly said a word. This is typical Rick😄. One of the girls in our group rented a room from him at the time and it was her that informed me he'd made a large discovery, not Rick. Even then it wasn't until sometime later that I found out the full story.
