    This was a great video. First time I changed the oil on my 6.0 powerstroke myself. (always had my shop do it, before I retired.) Ford engineers deserve credit for putting the oil filter up top! Great tip about refilling from that spot too! Thanks for the video!

    Thanks for the video! I went to 10+ oil change spots, and none of them had the ability change my oil 😡 Which usually means, I have to do it myself. This is my first diesel truck so I thought it would be like a car. It was reassuring to see it done via this video) before doing it myself and potentially damaging my truck. THANKS!

      James Tyree II Actually I always do open the top but to save time on the video I didn't show the section where I went back to the drain right after opening the top. Maybe I should have shown it on the video to prevent any confusion. Either way it is not that huge of a deal to open the top later, it may save a little drain time. Good video. I have a 6.0 as well, and after you run it when filling with 15 quarts, it will again need another quart (because the filter will hold one to stay full until removed). So for anyone else with a 6.0, you can just put in 16 quarts right off the bat instead of saving one quart from the gallon bottle.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  4 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      The owner's manual calls for 15 quarts of oil for an oil change including a filter. Putting 16 quarts in may overfill so I will stick with the recommended 15 quarts as I have for the life of the vehicle. Thanks for watching.

    According to the Service Manual. You don’t need to pour any oil into the filter housing. With the cap off the spring opens. And the oil is just being poured into the pan.

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      While it is true you do not have to pour oil into the oil filter housing it is a larger hole than the fill tube is and it is another opening that can be used to fill the vehicle with oil. Thanks for watching.

    At what engine oil temperature do you recommend draining the oil?

    • @funbro1
      @funbro1  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I would recommend the warmer the better just to get the most oil to flow out of the engine. With that being said you will need to wait a few minutes for gravity to do it's job and let the oil drain from the engine into the pan. Also if you are changing the oil "hot" or very warm I would definitely suggest gloves. Thanks for the question, and Thanks for watching.

      Hopefully it doesn't use any oil that would mean the engine is worn,although it should hold 15 quarts unless you have a bypass filter added which will take a little more.

    Is it possible that my oil cap isn’t supposed to come off the filter? I have pulled as hard as possible to get it to come off but it won’t, it still spins around freely and wobbles a little bit but won’t let go of the filter

    • @paulturnberg6858
      @paulturnberg6858 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      You may have a NAPA gold cap. I believe those come as an assembly - ie the filter is glued to the cap. DO NOT pull out the NAPA filter and put a new one in. The NAPA caps are not re-usable. If you put a stock filter in the NAPA cap, which is slight taller, the oil filter seats further into the taller cap, giving it a shorter length overall. Then it wont depress the oil plunger in the bottom of the housing. IMO get a new CAP that fits a standard filter. The stock filter should "snap", or seat, into the cap. When you put a filter in a NAPA cap the filter doesn't snap solidly into place. It kind of wabbles, because it was originally glued. Those caps don't have the seating to hold the filter like the original caps do.

      Why does this matter? Does the engine idling cause more wear to the engine? It seams to me engine idling would be less Wear on the engine and no wear on the tranny or rest of the drivetrain
