I finish painting and start assembling the brake on my 1979 Warn 8274 Winch.

Use a strong magnet and it holds the balls in place. I also assembled mine flipped over and held it together with 2 vice grips, then flipped it back over, knocked in the keys and put the retaining clip on. Much easier.

Grease on the brake disc bearings??? That's a recipe for brake failure.
