Watching this video on your 8274 brought back a lot of memories. I worked the dog out of the one I had on my K5, and still regret letting it go when I sold the truck. Although I haven’t been without a 4X4 since the K5, an 8274 just didn’t fit the trucks I had, but now that I have a 2 door JK I’m thinking if it doesn’t restrict too much air flow and I can find a bumper to hold it - 🤔
Do you have to run a negative line from winch grounding screw to battery. I just hooked up the warn control pack grounding wire from control pack to winch grounding screw. All is working fine. Warn didn’t supply a battery negative wire to go from winch grounding screw to negative battery terminal.
I'm sure you've probably figured this out by now but for anyone else reading this, YES you do. You're using the frame as a ground. If the mounting bolts get a little corroded you could lose some ground and that little wire to the solenoids could burn up.
I bet that new Optima battery doesn't last half (if your lucky) as long as the old battery did. Optima was a great product. So when it goes in and out the single terminal on the far right on the top and one of the left ones get power at the same time so two terminals get powered up to make it go in or out
Glad your winch is working again! Don’t see many of these older winches anymore. And let us know how long the new optima last? I used to have great luck with them, I mean 10-15 years out of each one. Until they moved manufacturing.. After that I went back to the Walmart special because the cut in manufacturing cost clearly caused a huge cut in reliability. i just can’t get the optimas to last for crap now, one after another after another crapping out in 2-3 years, a couple even sooner barley a year. Now had they cost less then $100 id probably still be using them because it’s nice being able to mount them however. But they don’t, there over twice that. For a battery that doesn’t last If even as long as the $100 Walmart battery’s. Just not worth the huge loss in reliability in my opinion, especially considering they don’t go out like a normal battery anymore either. At least not in my experience anyways, every one I bought after the manufacturing move went out completely out of no where. They’d be working great one minute then not at all the next.. and they’d never work again after that.
I definitely can agree with you when they first moved their operations to Mexico. After that it seems that they have maybe gotten things under control. Cuz I just don't hear that many negatives anymore. But The Optimist have always been a great really strong battery until they died like you were saying. Nice having a super strong battery when your wenching! The kill switch really helped on my Jeep

Which motor did you use? I've seen that Warn now has an 8274 model with a more powerful motor to increase capacity from 8,000lbs to 10,000. I'm thinking of upgrading the motor on may 1978 winch.
Great video...... I relocated my relay box from the winch to under the hood where the old factory jack was stored, I just hammered flat the jack mount and zip tied that bitch to it... It's been working out great I also relocated my controller jack / plug to inside the cab mounting it on the under side of my center indicator panel right under my 4WD indicator light in my YJ. I'm with you on the light bar thing... I have a 52" El Cheapo and the damn thing has been awesome... Turn that bitch on at night and it's like looking into the freakin' sun...lol... One remote velcro'd to the steering wheel and the other on the key chain so I can turn them on whenever. I get so many great comments about all the lights mounted all over..lol

I believe you forgot the ball bearing grease, I hope not.😎 Uncle Larry
The solenoid replacement? Will that work on my xd9000 warn? Ballpark cost?
You can just Google Albright solenoid for a winch! You never know what you might find.
No different lock in doors , I only replaced the cylinder in the ignition. (When bought no keys ). So when I replaced ignition cylinder came with new keys had to have locksmith program it for the car to even turn and stay on. I still have the issue of no keys that will open/unlock doors, I thought wireless/keyless entry system would be answer which I still due I just dont know how to wire it properly for my make and model. So I just need to know which and what wires I need to wire the thing properly. I was hoping you or someone out there could video it being done. The thing I bought came with really weak instructions. I bought it from amazon. I send a pic. Hopefully someone can help.
fantastic video mate
Jeremy, I have a HP dana 30 in the front, no vaccuum disco. Running 32 inch mt's. I believe the weakest link is the U-joint. What is the second weakest link and how to eliminate?
It's nice to know you felt your balls, Jeremy.
🤣😂🤣😂 oh you guys LOL
G2 sticker means - G= July, 2=2012 this is the manufactured date
Exactly what I was thank you
just picking one up today
Jeremy wondered how you were. Cool video
😊😊
Random question, but how did you clean the housing so well?
What synthetic line did u go with?
Yea let's do some wheeling when and we're that fan ride gonna be I gotta take off for that love that rig bud
Second weekend in October at Windrock I believe it's the 12th
Bleepin Rose count me in
Can you provide detail on the kill switch.
The one that I used is a quick car racing kill switch! There are plenty of them them out there that work great. But if you want to run your went through one which I do not have that never mind. You want to make sure you have one that has super high amp rating. Well over four hundred amps!
Another comment also asked if I would touch on the kill switch when I do the in-cab winch controllers so I will touch on it then as well! Thanks
Hi, was hoping your knowledge of a stock 8274 winch may be able to point me in the right direction. Got one on my 78 Fj40 and I’m able to spool out but when I try to spool in I just get a click. As to my knowledge all the wiring is stock just like yours.
Solenoid is bad!
Howdy,
Great video!
Would you be able to tell me the lengths of the three small cables you made for the motor to solenoid?
Keep up the good work
Does anyone know where to get the winch motor wire rubber guards that he mentioned are hard to find online lol
I misplaced mine a couple years back and need new ones
I'm going to check out those Areolidz, I also have a 20" that I don't use much, I think I'm going to remove it...we'll see... I have my lights on a 4 channel remote. One remote velcro'd to the steering wheel and the other on the key chain so I can turn them on whenever. I get so many great comments about all the lights mounted all over..lol
Sweet!
Nice job Jerome.YAHTZEE.......
😁
16:30 you should have maybe greased the bearings in.
It's the brake. You don't want any grease there!
Yeah you don't apply any grease to those! They're also open to the elements one mud and dirt would just stick right to the grease.. but I did research that to confirm LOL I was curious as well.
@@jeremyrose7541 I wouldn't have guessed to run bearings dry🤷♂️
Nice job Jeremy must people have to much money and just buy a new winch. What better way than grab a beer and do it yourself.
Hell yeah also have you ever priced one of these winch is brand new LOL
@@jeremyrose7541I have lol
Thing moves some cable!
hi, i like to share some mods on Warn 8274 that often used in Indonesia. Here, we are using warn 9.5XP Motor and replace the solenoid with Albright Contactor + gigglepin main shaft. hope it can be useful tips for you
Where can I buy Gigglepin parts from here in USA??
I always neatly scratch the date I install the battery on the top case.
I got a lil chub thinking about pouring lucas gear oil in it haha
Haha!!
That plaid is really close to Buchanan.
in 2019 my wife said her 2002 f150 wouldn’t start i looked under the hood and it still had the original battery in it stamped 2001 blew my mind
Right!! Lolol
Drink every time he says gigglepin
Lol
"Jeremy's messing with his winch"... I laughed so hard. Sounds like something your mom told you not to do when you were a kid.
Lol🤣😂
Does anyone under drive them any more than stock? Like for pulling more weight? I'd Rather have the line speed a little slower and have an 8klb rig.
Not sure.
Thats why you don't loan things without supervision.
Ya' got your gigglepin in one hand and a beer in the other...awhhh I'm not going there🍻
Cool show, thanks Bleepin' Jeremy!!
😝
I have a 2006 jeep grand cherokee I bought it with the key missing and cylinder destroyed so I put in new ignition but I had to call locksmith for the car to start due to the fob. Long story , now to get to the point I don't have a way to lock my car. I purchased a wireless keyless entry system and iam having issues with putting it in. I also dont have the manufactures book but I do have a service entry manual. Still iam stumped. Hopefully someone can help me or make a video would be best. Ok well thank you regardless of the outcome
Buddy I wish I could help but I have a feeling that's way over my head! So the key fob that you had program doesn't unlock the doors
Shouldn’t have your synthetic line wrapped around the hooks like that, it will break the material down 75% faster on the points of contact
UMM WOT
I love that crimper name?
It's actually Matt's and it came from Amazon for about 70 bucks there's a bunch of them but this one works really really well
