      not trying to be that duche that comes along and tries to correct everyone even though this does sound like it. because its on a guitar and not a bass tosin refers to it as "thumping"

    • @justinswann9619
      @justinswann9619 10 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      Shaun Luxon It's been called thump for a long time before Tosin started using it. it was originally created by Victor Wooten (best living bass player atm) and made for solo Bass work, hence why it's so percussive. the difference between thump and slap is actually just the technique you use to hit the strings. Slapping being that you sort of bounce your thumb off the string you intend to hit. thump however is hitting the string downwards and upwards to get that percussive sound you hear, when combined with a pluck up and your index and middle finger plucks it becomes incredibly fast.

    • @shaun-ography
      @shaun-ography 10 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      well there you go, learn something new every day. i used to watch some victor wooten clips when teaching myself bass but i had no idea thump was a term already used

    The album mixing does not give justice for that slap section. When I saw it live I was floored. The slaps are way punchier. The album sound is just overprocessed or whatnot

    • @Natesmitguitar
      @Natesmitguitar 9 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      The slapping technique in the album mix was what got me hooked on this song in the first place...possibly a result of different equalisations between you and me?

    • @deadasfak
      @deadasfak 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @R D B It sounds good, I just prefer to take it raw.

    • @drivenelement
      @drivenelement 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Impossible to compare live sound vs album sound imo, the tones of each instrument are set to achieve different outcomes. I personally think the album mix is outstanding (thanks Nolly!).

    Im so glad theres someone who uses extended range guitars melodically. Proving how much possibly is ignored by only playing heavy riffing. I started playing 7's about 4 years ago cause of this type of playing.
