chrisbernard15 99% of all manga work is referenced. Not because people aren't imaginative or are bad and forced to use pictures off the Internet, but because you can't draw something without seeing it or something similar. You can't tell someone to draw the eifful tower if they haven't seen it, can you? Now, when it comes to making pages, that depends on the style. For a very realistic or really detailed manga, it can take anywhere from 3-4 hours going from scratch, some even longer. If it's a less realistic, more cartoonish style, it usually takes around 2 hours. This may scare you, but it is necessary to achieve your goals
... You do realize the work that goes into a professional manga page, right? Sketching the page may take 2-4 hours. Inking, screening, dialoge, and color for special pages. Your looking at a days work for a page of professional work. Manga artists in Japan churn out 17 pages a week, but that is with 2-3 assistants working full time and the main artist working 80+ hrs a week. Overall 6-8 hours a page split up among different people.

I'm getting an art desk super soon and so I'm gonna get a bunch of art things so I don't have to hopefully go to the store once or twice every week to get something so basically after I get my art desk I'll hopefully go on an art shopping spree lol. Also, people make fun of me for doing art because Im a girl and think an gender can do art or whatever they want. (Hopefully my art desk will be baby blue or lavender with my easel on the side.
Hey what about those use a pad to draw is that still good enough? Because I honestly digitally drawing felt alot smoother for me once I started. At first was like "Oh hell no, I can't do this! Nuh uh! Nope!" Then after 1 in half week later, I couldn't stop drawing. In fact, I seriously kid you not, drawing digitally made my traditional drawings feel so much better! I was freaking the hell out about how much my art style changed because of one week! Mostly thanks to WhytManga for the tips. But besides that I hope that its still okay to draw manga even though its digitally.
You don't need to go to a expensive art school. one thing that I tell people is to start drawing now practice every day use the internet there's a bunch of free tutorials to learn anything art related
Really depends on where you live, in europe a lot of these supplies are more expensive and/or harder to get... If you're in the us, probably just get your supplies from the deleter website. Basic supplies are probably mechanical pencil, g pen/ maru pen and ink, brush pen, manga paper, microns, rulers, and alcohol based markers if you want to do some coloring. Scanners and photoshop are too big an investment for a beginner imo
@@stevenporter7065 a scanner just takes your drawing and makes it a file in your computer. Usually a scanning bed is included in a printer. Theres really no need for one if youre a beginner though
Any chance you can do a tutorial using screen tone (either the real deal or with Copics)? I feel like that would be a good video to learn for those who do everything old school without using a GNU to do all the work
If you want to make amazing art maybe try digital. The two free apps for the phone or tablet would be medibang and ibispaint. You can make amazing art with your fingure or you can maybe save up and bye a stylus to draw on the phone or tab from Amazon. I use a "Adrawpen" sometimes for my digital work. If your using a computer you can download medibang, crita, or firealpaca all are free to download I personally use medibang the most just because I'm the most familiar with that. Your going to need to buy a drawing tablet if you want to use a computer for art. You can try using a mouse but it's going to be more difficult. Hope that helps.
So how much does this cost? Cause I REALLY WANNA be like you, drawing is my passion but since i saw youtube videos with draw supplies I quit with the drawing because I really want these tools to but... My family and I are not really that rich 🤦🏽♀️
Thanks whyt! I have most of tbe stuff you mentioned but those copic markers would utterly destroy my wallet right now lol. been interested in the G-Pen and those types of pens in general. On a side note what type of computer do you reccomend for digital stuff or what do you have? been looking for a computer good for a decent pad because my current computeer is not compatible with them. (love apple black although my copy got printed upside down *which actually is kinda cool*)
1st. I am poor and 2.nd I need to get better cause now I suck. :/ maybe next time but for now tablet and paper _ some markers is enough. I dont even expect myself to get to the "PRO" lvl even after dekades. so :/ why bother

For the people who haven't tried microns I wouldn't suggest them enless u have the money to buy more I bought some and within about 10 drawings they already started drying out and I have to push hard just to get any ink out
I am new to your channel. I'm a Manga drawer (working on being a creator) & jam out. I soon hope to create an anime as well and produce my own music on to it. Maybe one day we could have talk about a cross over. Lol. But sadly, I'm not on you're level, yet. Soon tho, lol

chrisbernard15 99% of all manga work is referenced.
This may scare you, but it is necessary to achieve your goals
very true! Using references can be extremely helpful in creating realistic scenes/poses =)
Aaron Arjona where can i find your manga
This helped alot! I'm in the process of making a manga comic, so I'll be sure to get some of these materials! Preciate it! :)
There is even pigma graphic 1,2 and 3 tips for even thicker lines.
Tbh I can draw anime perfectly fine and all I use is 0.5 mechanical drawing pencils, Ohuhu markers, Micro pens, and a regular school pencil
I love apple black and want to know how to become a manga artist like you
Well the place I live don't sell dip pens nor those kind of art supplies 0-o !
I only use pointed brush and black ink
Instead of markers/copics I use water colours 😂😭
Thank you for making a new videos :D
The first and most important material you need: Pizza ^ ^
this is a lot of help
The tools i use in my own manga is just a mongol pencil,Eraser,BondPaper, Sharpener,Ruler🙂
All I have is a pencil, eraser, printing paper, cheap color pencils, sister’s Prismacolor markers ( I doubt that she gonna let me use it) and cheap mechanical pencil.
Hey I wanna be a mangaka and my dream is to work for shounen jump!!!
Got any tips?
I'm currently Drawing a manga to practice and I try to use Jojo's art style
Amazing.
But besides that I hope that its still okay to draw manga even though its digitally.
did you go to an art school? how did you learn to make money off your art and such? @Whyt Manga
LEON you can just practice drawing you don't have to go to art school to be good
LEON he didn't go to art school.
You don't need to go to a expensive art school. one thing that I tell people is to start drawing now practice every day use the internet there's a bunch of free tutorials to learn anything art related
How does he make money off his art.
I think he has a couple of manga series, which he sells.
What are the most basic things i should consider buying except paper, pencils, and erasers. Also what will they cost and where can i find them?
Really depends on where you live, in europe a lot of these supplies are more expensive and/or harder to get... If you're in the us, probably just get your supplies from the deleter website. Basic supplies are probably mechanical pencil, g pen/ maru pen and ink, brush pen, manga paper, microns, rulers, and alcohol based markers if you want to do some coloring. Scanners and photoshop are too big an investment for a beginner imo
@@notping9252 what a scanner do though?
@@stevenporter7065 a scanner just takes your drawing and makes it a file in your computer. Usually a scanning bed is included in a printer. Theres really no need for one if youre a beginner though
@@notping9252 i was like im pretty sure ik what this does but imma just ask you know
I use a chubby pencil from god knows where and the back of some test papers I used back in college 3 years ago.
5:56 Is he saying 'you cannot have freedom with them'?
Also, the music is pretty suspicious...
13:21 Wow! I love that drawing. It looks awesome! :D
Any chance you can do a tutorial using screen tone (either the real deal or with Copics)? I feel like that would be a good video to learn for those who do everything old school without using a GNU to do all the work
I Already have, th-cam.com/video/Q2U4EfKCfjI/w-d-xo.html
Whyt Manga did not know that! guess I know what I'll be watching soon
I can't draw afford all these materials
I'm only 13 helppppppppp
:(((((((((((((((((
If you want to make amazing art maybe try digital.
Mireya aka. Chen sameee ;(
I am 12 :(((((
So helpful to here this form an experienced person who has done this for a wile your so helpful thanks
So how much does this cost? Cause I REALLY WANNA be like you, drawing is my passion but since i saw youtube videos with draw supplies I quit with the drawing because I really want these tools to but... My family and I are not really that rich 🤦🏽♀️
I have a mix of Azure and Prismacolor markers.
I'm not quite brave enough to buy Copics yet.
Cool video and new sub!!
But I am poor XD
same lol
Same I feel you bro
If y'all poor you wouldn't be here watching this kind of video right now
Thanks whyt!
Xavior Evans I think he uses an apple computer
delta ah okay thanks for catching that for me :D
I can't use brush pens/markers for character inking. It's too wobbly. That's more for effects and solid black areas
The best art tools you should have are a hand and a brain the rest depends on your preferences only
1st. I am poor and 2.nd I need to get better cause now I suck. :/ maybe next time but for now tablet and paper _ some markers is enough.
I dont even expect myself to get to the "PRO" lvl even after dekades. so :/ why bother
Guys you don't need all these just when you are starting buy really cheap replacements and buy all this gradually when you actually earn from your manga
Thanks this really helps could you make a video about cheap but good comic supplies
MemOffice alcohol based markers are much cheaper than copics.
120 pack MemOffice- 65$
70 pack Copic- 280$
I got my MemOffice markers from Amazon
Great! Now I want to go to the national bookstore!!!
Im that one cheap person who reuses old micanical pencils, a pen, sharpie, a sucky eraser, and cheap water color sets cause im to broke to buy actual copics, so I use artist loft markers instead
Your videos are so helpful :) and inspiring I'm developing my drawing skills and, own manga slowly which is my dream thanks for your help !!!
Why do I feel like autodesk sketchbook is just the digital version of his setup he has copic markers and everythingggggg
I don't have enough money to buy things that I like. even just coloring pencil I can't afford
Thanks Whyt this is great!
Sadly I use crayola and crazy art color pencils and some shading pencils it’s very hard wish I had copic markers
I feel your pain
@Tajrick it is hard hate when the color pencils wax a lot if pressured
@@JoseManuel-wc9mf yup. and how crayola lead breaks easily
How do you change pencil color to blue on the computer?
You can change the "hue" on the pencils in photoshop.
Whyt Manga Thanks but how do i use that function on manga art studio, please.
Open the curves tool (i use krita and it's ctrl+m on that and on Photoshop) and then go from there.
Also ciaos only come in less colors. The ciao 72 sets are different from the sketch 72 sets as to what colors are in each.
Asheranna Art And they have less ink.
That too lol
I draw almost like Oda Sensei
you can never draw without pizza in your life
Before the video i don't know what should use in manga
Such a neat channel. Thanks!
Great video, but the title made me misunderstand. Art supplies you should have? Does it mean that if people want to make good art should have these supplies? ^^
These are tools I think you should have, but you do not need them all to make good art, it's not like I use all the tools everytime I create anything...lol
Whyt Manga Ok! Lol haha :D thanks for the reply ^^
Yo apple black is the best manga I ever seen
Watching your videos I feel like my face is in everything, put the camera a little bit further...
yeah, using the Pigmapen: "as you can see right there..." NO WE CAN'T SEE! xD
im 15 just started drawing but since im only on highscool i dont have a drawing tablet or something. Also my pfp is my drawing 😁
I have the anniversary set as well as the 72 and the copic little but the Originals do you have a brush tip but they don't have a chizzled they have that Small hard one if you know what I'm talking about
Wow...now i know them, but too bad these things are not sold here in Nigeria😥
72 a sketch and 72 a ciao will be diffrent
thank advice bro, respected 😎
