Well said Baz... it would be easy to say it isnt selling and discontinue Antaeus... but Antaeus stands for something much more powerful than just sales or a bottom line 💪🐏
Another great review Ramsey! This one really hit home for me. This is my signature sent throughout the 80s. (Sorry you didn’t come of age during this decade- this was your time!) when I finished my bottle, I moved on to other fragrances, always meaning to pick up another bottle-20 year later I re-purchased a bottle of Anteus in 2010 and I almost didn’t recognize it!, The reformulation made it almost unrecognizable, at least until the dry down. Then it all came flooding back to me as to why this was my favorite cologne. it’s still one of my favorites, but I wish I would’ve squirreled away some bottles back in the 80s of the original formulation! You have great taste! Keep up the good work!!!
Wow, this has me sold! I can’t wait to make my first actual good vintage buy! I only have modern reformulation, but this fragrance and its vintage formulation is up there for potential first!
OMG! The great Antaeus! What more can be said about it that you have not already said? Can't wait to watch the full review right now! I have a mid-2000s bottle and it's absolutely stunning! The current version is still great! I cherish every second of this fragrance, one of the greatest fragrances ever created, hands down! This Hall of Fame series was such a great idea! Thanks, Ram!🍻
when i wear antaeus i feel like a classy villain or classy vampire, i know it might be strange but thats the mindset it puts me in, this is definitely a fragrance for a certain type of man, rebellious & old money, craves power, goes his path, a lone wolf
Same thing happens to me but when I wear Dior fahrenheit it makes me wildly aggressive and I go out picking fights with strangers. I started putting on a ski mask and at first it was only homeless people then it evolved to high school kids and now l'm picking fights with grown men. I even have a nemesis. I beat up the same guy a couple times, found out where he works so I catch him off guard after he gets off work. He's been posting on Facebook about catching me at night and giving me what I deserve. Dude drives around at night with a shotgun trying to kill me. My life is so much more exciting now, does this happen to anyone else when they wear Dior fahrenheit?
You got the chain and unbuttoned shirt with chest hair out. Just had to spray some vintage Antaues on. Kenny Stabler, Gene Upshaw, Art Shell, and the list goes on. Excellent insight along with an informative review. Thank you, Ramsey.
This is absolutely the best fragrance review I have ever seen on TH-cam…no…anywhere. Please keep doing what you’re doing. If you’re consistent you will grow this channel to something great. You deserve so many more subscribers than you have and I’m sure they will come! Thank you!!
Great video, I still wear the modern … in the summer 😉 it smells the same it just wear’s differently… modern doesn’t really tell a story or live a life , the notes don’t pop throughout the wearing . Top -mid - bottom … it just seems too well blended making it a bit linear
I had been waiting for you to do this review for a good while and it didn’t disappoint. It actually wouldn’t surprise me if you made a part two to it when you think of how much more you could have said. This is that kind of fragrance. It gets real hard to find one that can compare to it. It stands above them all. Great job!
Hi my brother 🙏🌹 Great review for one of the greatest fragrances ever made alongside humanity history Antaeus is a real legend The new versions are still great and classic, thanks to Chanel for keeping it strong and powerful For me the opening of Antaeus even the new version is still revolutionary and mind blowing This cozy resinous deep sweet and waxy balsamic smell of Myree which was perfectly blended with classy fresh greens of clary sage is out of this world . I think the new version add more jasmine in the heart which add more contrast , shine radiation and enjoyment to play with deep leathery earthy mossy chypre base
Hope the separate review of Bel Ami & Kouros are on the way :) P.S. On a related subject, i had a modern version as well as deep vintage (80s) version of Antaeus in decants. To be frank, and like it usually is with vintage vs modern, the modern version to me is pretty much a separate standing perfume - it is so much different from the vintage that it is almost unrecognizable. I was blown away by how different the vintage was when i first smelled it, and can certainly say that it is sooo much better than the modern stuff they put out.
What a review u did a phenomenal job with this great work I do love and own 3 silver cap just I was goin over people who I’m grateful for in my head and ram popped up without u never would have known suck scents existed and let alone the right version to hunt down a side note here I’m loving the castoreum more in Portos but ofcouse u can’t beat a Chanel’s blend looking forward to these vintage hall of fame reviews imo ur best work yet 🤜🤛
Ah YES! The GREAT Antaeus! Absolutely love it and I'm yet to add a bottle to my collection (I know, but the right opportunity will come). Absolutely fantastic review as always Ramsey! Thank you 😁
I have a bottle but it's not vintage although it has a silver sprayer, I can only imagine how powerful it was back in the day. I only wear this fragrance when I dress up.
Hi Ramsey, thank you so much for the best review ever! The vivid pictures showcased everything from a happy kid to pirate ships to sumo fighters..... an absolutely fantastic review..🙏
Thank you for presenting the best review of my GOAT perfume Ramsay, awesome work! Being a Gemini I can totally relate to the split personality of the perfume you describe, strong and subtle simultaneously. Hence why it worn on my wedding day and reserved for important occasions. I have a 1985 bottle which smells far bolder than current version with greater sillage and amazing longevity. Interestingly the bottle presents differently to any of yours: (a) Small silver Chanel logo on top (b) Silver spray (c) EDT logo on back of bottle only. Cheers 🙏
Excellent video. It’s wonderful how you celebrate arguably the greatest men’s fragrance ever created. A masculine masterpiece by Jacques Polge. The aftershave white creamy lotion is really nice too. The deodorant stick, however, doesn’t smell like Antaeus. Both the vintage and the newer versions of Antaeus For Men are superb. I like coupling Antaeus with a slick form-fitting black or dark navy turtleneck sweater. Masculinity personified.
@@RamseytheRam I noticed Antaeus has great longevity….especially on clothes…when I spray it on my form-fitting black turtleneck, you can still smell it days later. Seriously!
I only know the modern formulation and it’s my favourite fragrance by far. In season, I almost have to force myself to wear other fragrances. At risk of sounding pretentious, it was the first fragrance I tried that transcended my expectations of a fragrance. It has a depth and a life to its wearability that compares to nothing else I wear.
Great job Man. I have and wear the new formulation fantastic, and last year I got a vintage splash 50ml ,however I can’t date it but all I can see is it’s identical to the splash bottle on the vintage Chanel advert?? And the scent profile is definitely darker and more primal great stuff. I am now trying to locate said splash bottle ,as it didn’t have an original box and I placed it for protection in a box, (which is a habit of mine for box less bottles) the hunt is on lol😂,why is everything lost always in the last place we look 😮??. Hahaha hahaha. Obviously ✌️🙏👍
Great video like always Ram👌🏻best description one can give to Antaeus. You know something I learned initially that still holds me to the vintage scents and real Oud attars which is that they make you feel and transport you to places that cannot be described by common words. I can try but it’ll be all over the place and also change depending on various factors like when and why I am wearing them and can never be just one thing like the “modern blue scents” described in three words might I add😂
Interesting, thanks and also thanks for the comparison of bottles design. The modern completely black one looks the best. :) I've heard about it so much that I decided to add it on my "blind buy if price is good vintage list" lol. If it was fine for gay dudes in the 80s, maybe I can pull it off as well lmao. Smelled the modern formulation, it's rather pleasant, nothing crazy about it at all.
Antaeus vintage is by far my favourite scent together with Kouros. I've spent a lot of effort seeking a vintage bottle, but never found it at a reasonable price. Then one day I met one person that was selling some miniatures, and discovered he had up to 30 pieces available, perfectly stocked and in mint conditions. He accepted my (indecent) offer for the whole batch, and a few days later I got 120 ml of wonderful Antaeus 1st formulation at home for a ridiculus price. Now, because miniatures are not much practical and I'm not a fan of splash bottles, I would transfer the juice in a dark glass bottle with atomizer, but I'm terrified of ruining it because of the cheapie plastic atomizers that come together with such bottles. Do you have any suggestion ? Maybe you know if someone has found a solution to refill an empty bottle of Antaeus with atomizer ?
I agree with you on Antaeus being tops for me 2 But I don't have a solution to your other problem as I always use the cheep plastic decanters Thanks for watching & commenting 🍻
Had a carded sample of Antaeus. Went to buy it at a store and all they had was Pour Monsiour. I didn't know any better and bought it. After a while i was like this isn't it. Any way wore it til it was empty. This is back in the mid 80s. Went back to the store still looking for that sent. They had Antaeus . finally i had THAT sent. Loved it ever since. Powerhouse. Also have later bottles maybe 90s or 2000s. Just not the same . need to find another vintage bottle. Reformulations just don't do it for me. Will have to pay stupid money for a bottle.
Great video! Stumbled on this looking for reviews on Antaeus. Subscribed! If you’ve not yet, you should check out another classic from Chanel: Egoiste (I see you have the vintage, not sure if you’ve done a review on it - I’ll look through your channel) Pour Monsieur is one of my favs from them also, looking forward to your review. I have both the OG EDT and the EDP (slight favorite is the EDP)
To me, Antaeus For Men is a fragrance for mature, refined men…gentlemen. It’s definitely not a fragrance for young guys or adolescent boys. Vintage Antaeus commands high prices nowadays, but in my opinion it’s worth it. It will only become more valuable as time goes on. Great informative video on what I consider the best and most masculine fragrance ever created. It’s so unique that not everyone will like it. I noticed that most dislikers are young men or young women. This is most likely because they’re so accustomed to light and fresh citrusy fragrances that are aimed at the younger, neutered generation.
I just bought a February 1989 Antaeus, confirmed with the batch code. It has the silver nozzle. The logo on top of the cap is white, but the two “C’s” is smaller, so it’s not necessarily a 90s Antaeus as the video says having the smaller white “C’s”
@@RamseytheRam It’s really a February 1989 Antaeus. The white face on top of the cap has two C’s but they’re smaller than the large C’s on the cap you’re holding in your right hand in the video. It could be that the two smaller C’s on a white face came out earlier than the early 1990s, possibly in the late 1980s?
Got the modern in santas Christmas stocking for this year. Of course would prefer an original formulation which I'm certain is different, better more powerful, but moneys very tight and im not a vintage hunter. Hope it's good. 1001 nights oil version next too, when jaipur edp runs out. 👍
I remember walking into Nordstrom back 10 years ago when i was in my 20s and smelling Antaeus. I immediately thought to myself "who wants to smell like this?!?!"😂😂😂 Now I appreciate it, the animalic note does have a place in my collection, I just don't have the guts to wear it out in public still😂😂😂
Antaeus is a fragrance you have to wear to truly appreciate. Honestly, the modern formulation isn’t too obnoxious beyond the opening. The silage is clean and soapy and it’s only close to the skin that it’s leathery and resinous. Wearing some ambroxan bomb like Sauvage EDT is far more obnoxious in my opinion.
@@EOTA564 So true. It is actually quite different to what is out there. I've never smelled something even similar. It's strong and loud wothout being Tom Ford or Dior obnoxious.
Like the video itself, this will be a long comment. :) So, I did watch a couple of your videos earlier and I did find them really interesting, as a matter of fact, but for some unknown reason - I never subscribed. Just corrected that mistake after this video! :) What to say.... I'm REALLY into oldschool fragrances and not many guys here on TH-cam put out videos about them. On top of that - Antaeus is my all time favourite (although I never had the chance the smell the vintage version). I do agree about everything what you said about the kind of guy who would wear this. I'd just like to leave my impression about the great Antaeus here too. Even though I was born in the 90s, the first time I smelled Antaeus I immediately thought to myself: "This is EXACTLY how the 80s smelled!" (not sure if that makes any sense, but yeah) :) In my opinion, WITHOUTH A DOUBT, this should've been Patrick Bateman's signature scent in the American Psycho movie, instead of YSL's Pour Homme. For some reason, I always imagine Sisters of Mercy playing in the background when I smell this masterpiece. I also connect it to an erotic mystery thriller with Al Pacino called "Sea of Love". Not sure why, but it is what it is - it's strange how one's brain connects things after all. :) Can't wait for your reviews on Kouros, Boss No. 1 (especially the latter, because it rarely gets talked about and it's one of my favourites), Habit Rouge and Heritage (also being one of my favourites). Since you've probably already checked out Van Cleef & Arpels - Pour Homme, Oscar De La Renta - Pour Lui and Jacques Bogart - One Man Show Oud Edition (yes, it does somewhat remind me of Antaeus), do consider checking out a fragrance by a company named "Just Jack" (basically an Arabic Tom Ford clone house) called "Homme Noir" - it's basically a Tom Ford's Noir clone, but for some reason, it's the ONLY fragrance in my collection that evokes similar feelings as Antaeus (I can only assume that you're not into clone fragrances, but I think you should trust me on this one, haha). Thank you very much for such a detailed video, sorry for the long comment and cheers from Serbia to all the new videos about the classics!
I like and wear Antaeus, it's a true masculine fragrance like Danger pour homme, BUT I should say that I like wearing Diaghilev more. It's not just possible for me to compare these two fragrances in my opinion.
Funny enough I wore this last night for the first time. I got a tester with the silver atomizer, it’s not a very vintage one though, so it wasn’t too expensive like the real vintage versions. I must say I freaking loved it. The animalics was perfect for me, Amouage Silver Oud was way too much (I will give it time). I imagine the real vintage ones must be even better. Thanks for recommending this fragrance. Is there anything that smells close to this without being discontinued (niche)?
Oaaafff without being discontinued is the issue... try and hunt down some easier to find discontinued frags like Oscar de la renta pour lui or Maxims pour homme... there are still tons of bottles floating around of those two 💪🐏
Since 1955's Pour Monsieur Edt up to 2018's Bleu de Chanel Parfum.....Chanel have had less the 15 main line men's colognes. They are such a classy disciplined House, never discounted. I have every one of their mainline scents and I love the most masculine Antaeus and Egoiste from the house.....these are the days when the brief was go and create art and not mass pleasing familiar formulaic scents.
I have a very recent bottle of Antaeus and, sorry, but it smells like a make-up bag. Not really animalic or masculine at all. I got it in Boots (an authorised Chanel supplier in the UK) so it is legit. That said, i don't regret the purchase 😄
@@RamseytheRam I have the eagle bottle. I also have the latest version and I honestly like both. I also have several small version eagle bottles of derby. Will send you one some day.
@@harikrishnankannan8711 🫂 I said the same thing in my comparison video.. that 2005 reform Wasser did is one of his greatest achievments as far as I am concerned ... brilliant stuff
Teenage dankness 😂 "ACTUALLY, I think I like that smell" 🤣 Your quips never cease to amuse Ramsey. But they only add to the excellent review. Haven't smelled the vintage myself, but now I know what to look for. Incidentally, I wonder if the brand new upcoming men's release will be a throwback line that reforms the Antaeus dna? 🤔 Since the brand name still banks heavily on the older generations, it wouldn't be a bad play. Unfortunately, I'd consider it a miracle if that were the case. More than likely it'll be something like "Vert de Chanel" to save on manufacturing and bank on the green movement. 😆 Genuinely, my hopes are higher.
19:01 I'm not into sports, but even as a kid I don't think I could stomach some old dude throwing me his sweaty shirt as a "gift". Or in other words: YUCK!!
@@RamseytheRam not him, not anyone. Had a roommate once who said he didn't really need to wash his shirt after basketball. I gave him such a mockery lashing in front of everyone he started washing his shirts in the shower right after playing. Rule #1 enjoy your sweat, animalics, and piss to the fullest extent - away from ME!
@@RamseytheRam lol of course. I do love animalics so if its down grade in that department, then that's a bummer. but I probably will still buy the new version anyways.
I’m thinking of purchasing a 1991 bottle of Antaeus. Do you know the precise date when they changed the 1980s formulation? If not, do you think the 1991 version still has the 80s formulation?
Never imagined the colour purple for Antaeus though, that sounded really really interesting. Gonna wear my silver top Antaeus for office today and FOCUS !!😂

@@infinite8586 get vintage if possible but new Antaeus is still good... Chanel doesnt make bad perfume
Those vintage 80s bottles are something special... thanks for watching & commenting
Great video! Stumbled on this looking for reviews on Antaeus. Subscribed!
If you’ve not yet, you should check out another classic from Chanel: Egoiste (I see you have the vintage, not sure if you’ve done a review on it - I’ll look through your channel)
Pour Monsieur is one of my favs from them also, looking forward to your review. I have both the OG EDT and the EDP (slight favorite is the EDP)
Have not reviewed either of those chanels yet... but I will soon
Thanks for the sub 💪🐏
The best!!

It was my review! Al Davis from the grave ... probably still smells of Antaeus in that casket ☠️
And thats a compliment 💪🐏
I definitely need to get my nose on Antaeus
I cant believe you havent 💪🐏
I love my Chanel Antaeus 1981👍🔥🏆
please tell me, is Lao Oud Bortnikoff in your Top 3 of all Bortnikoff perfumes today?
Man that is a tough question my friend... yes on some days and others its just outside the top 3... but its never outside the top 5
@@RamseytheRamthank you so much friend 🤝
and after your review I got the idea to buy another 100 ml Antaeus from 1980 😅💪👍🔥
Andrey your art is very nice.
Can you make a picture where Antaeus actually beats Hercules ?
Thank you mr. Potapov
@@AndreyPotapovArt you can never have enough Vintage Antaeus 👀
@@dusanninic5372 Thank you so much 🙏
Very interesting idea 💪🔥
If guys have enough dough to buy a Roja, I’d suggest taking into consideration getting a vintage bottle of Antaeus. The one with the silver sprayer.
Absolutely 💪🐏
Probably my all time favorite fragrance.... thanks for watching & commenting 🍻
I just bought a February 1989 Antaeus, confirmed with the batch code. It has the silver nozzle. The logo on top of the cap is white, but the two “C’s” is smaller, so it’s not necessarily a 90s Antaeus as the video says having the smaller white “C’s”
Interesting... could be a different cap 🤷🏻♂️
If you arent a vintage hunter the modern is just fine 🤌🤌🤌
Perfect signature scent for Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde 😏
Spot on 💪🐏
I remember walking into Nordstrom back 10 years ago when i was in my 20s and smelling Antaeus. I immediately thought to myself "who wants to smell like this?!?!"😂😂😂
Now I appreciate it, the animalic note does have a place in my collection, I just don't have the guts to wear it out in public still😂😂😂
Wear it tomorrow... cherish wearing Antaeus in public... it is a privlage
The same thing happened to me but with Egoïste. Now I appreciated. It smells wonderful on clothing and bedding.
@@R.N.19agreed.
Can't wait for your reviews on Kouros, Boss No.
Beautiful comment my friend... appreciate the sub & rec 💪🐏
Bought two bottles 😅🙏
Hell ya 💪🐏
I like and wear Antaeus, it's a true masculine fragrance like Danger pour homme, BUT I should say that I like wearing Diaghilev more.
It's not just possible for me to compare these two fragrances in my opinion.
Thanks for watching & sharing Mobammad 🙏
Funny enough I wore this last night for the first time. I got a tester with the silver atomizer, it’s not a very vintage one though, so it wasn’t too expensive like the real vintage versions. I must say I freaking loved it. The animalics was perfect for me, Amouage Silver Oud was way too much (I will give it time). I imagine the real vintage ones must be even better. Thanks for recommending this fragrance. Is there anything that smells close to this without being discontinued (niche)?
Oaaafff without being discontinued is the issue... try and hunt down some easier to find discontinued frags like Oscar de la renta pour lui or Maxims pour homme... there are still tons of bottles floating around of those two 💪🐏
@@RamseytheRam will do! Happy holidays!
Yes the good old days... Chanel has a handful in my top ten of all time but Antaeus has a special place in my heart
Thanks!
Thanks so much for the super sticker 🙂
I swear to God every time I put Chanel Antaeus on me I feel like the sexiest man alive!
Same! 😂😂😂
I have a very recent bottle of Antaeus and, sorry, but it smells like a make-up bag. Not really animalic or masculine at all. I got it in Boots (an authorised Chanel supplier in the UK) so it is legit. That said, i don't regret the purchase 😄
Yes the newer versions have been toned down
Just drowned myself in Antaeus Sport Holy 💦. My God

I said the same thing in my comparison video.. that 2005 reform Wasser did is one of his greatest achievments as far as I am concerned ... brilliant stuff
@@RamseytheRam yes. You said the same thing and I remember it vividly. I agree - the recreation of derby is one of his finest works ever.
It's very strong. a little goes a long long way. powdery, but woody. Very business daddy. Clean white shirt on a masculine man.

I cant wait for the new chanel release 🥳
19:01 I'm not into sports, but even as a kid I don't think I could stomach some old dude throwing me his sweaty shirt as a "gift". Or in other words: YUCK!!
😂😂😂
What if it was Kurt Cobain?
@@RamseytheRam not him, not anyone. Had a roommate once who said he didn't really need to wash his shirt after basketball. I gave him such a mockery lashing in front of everyone he started washing his shirts in the shower right after playing. Rule #1 enjoy your sweat, animalics, and piss to the fullest extent - away from ME!
is the modern one worth a buy?
Yes... but you know what I am going to say 😏
The vintage is better
@@RamseytheRam lol of course. I do love animalics so if its down grade in that department, then that's a bummer. but I probably will still buy the new version anyways.
I’m thinking of purchasing a 1991 bottle of Antaeus. Do you know the precise date when they changed the 1980s formulation? If not, do you think the 1991 version still has the 80s formulation?
I think 1990 was the reform... if you want an 80s bottle i think you literally have to find a bottle from the 1980s
@@RamseytheRam yeah, even the month in 1990 matters. I see there’s an April 1990 bottle available. Maybe the reformulation happened later in 1990?
@@PerAllwin1963 that is even to detailed for me to know lol
Maybe check Raiders of the lost scent
Is current formulation worth to buy???
No clue....you will have to ask the audience that one 🙂
