To supplement your point ,this guy studied evolutionary biology at Harvard for undergrad. I am not entirely sure how that remotely relates to modern medicine other than historical information, but maybe someone more educated about the field could let me know. With regards to med school, lots of med students will tell you that there are a group of students that will actual try to understand the science to become good physicians and there are a group of students that will just memorize what they need to know for the board exams. I think it's safe to say Dr. Charles falls in the latter group.
@AnikaReza to be fair, your undergrad focus/degree doesn't matter as long as you have taken the necessary classes that are listed as a pre-requisit to get into the medical program. It's probably not useful in his medical degree and it probably was an easier undergrad degree compared to some others he could have chosen, but he surely took the science classes that were required. I absolutely agree that there are different types of med students and working doctors. He definitely comes across as the type who is in it for the money and recognition. He has no shame and it's gross.
@eileen_a_b you are absolutely right about degree of study being relatively inconsequential to getting into medical school. But the reason I mention his undergraduate field is because he intentionally did not specify it in his profile. Even if you look at his dermatology clinic websites, his educational background is not listed there. People can easily be led to believe that he got his medical degree from Harvard (which I admitting thought at first). Of course, Duke is no school to scoff at either, but half truths about his background is a red flag. He is using his alma mater as a lure to convince people he is credible. (I definitely should have clarified my train of thought in my initial response 😅)
I was a manager at Ulta for 7 years. More than once, I had customers come into the store with a prestige brand beauty product (mostly fragrance but some eyeshadow palettes etc) because they wanted to see if we could help them determine if they were fake. You, Robert and Dr Mike are some of the only influencers I would believe with advice and reviews because of the research you do and that you would reach out to other professionals for information as and when you need it. And as for blocking the dog… that tells me all I need to know about him! 😂
Let's give a moment of appreciation to Dr.Mike... Seeing a doctor actively humble many narcissistic doctors is great. I have personally dealt with specialists who were too consumed with their own egos that it prevented them from treating me properly.
I feel like so many brand owning influencers do that! I noticed that Blogilates doesn’t seem to tag things as an ad when making content directly about popflex clothing.
I agree that it would be ideal for her to be tagging her videos as ads, but I think legally she is in the clear because every video is her saying “I/we made _____”. It would be really hard to argue in court that a reasonable viewer wouldn’t know it’s her brand and that she financially benefits from the sales. From what I have seen myself and heard others say about the Tala CEO, the issue with her videos was that she wasn’t explicitly saying “I made ____” or “my product”, and that someone who wasn’t familiar could watch one of those videos and reasonably believe that it wasn’t her own company.
I see a few people saying the Cay Skin SPF lip gloss made their lips burn, but I do wonder if they’ve tried other SPF balms too? Because my lips get irritated by ALL chemical SPF balms, even if my facial skin is okay with the same sunscreen ingredients. I can use mineral SPF on my lips though (just bought the Supergoop one). I think we just gotta remember the skin on the lips is even thinner than even that on our face and may be even more easily sensitized. Not that I’m defending a prolapsing lip balm, but just curious if others have tried SPF lip balms before the Cay Skin.
I'm so glad you've done this video. Would you consider doing one on the gifts brands are giving to influencers, such as Chanel and Birkin handbags, worth thousands of dollars and the subsequent content generated about the handbag and associated hyperbole about the brand's product? I'm thinking about a couple of American influencers in particular.
The way Dr Charles wears that labcoat is really giving me Milgram Experiment white lab coat theory. Like i aint trusting u more cuz of that coat, brother.
Fr, like I have a lab coat hanging off my chair because I need it for my chemistry classes. I could wear it and start yapping on the internet, but that doesn't mean I know shit. And as a 2nd year undergrad student I definitely don't know shit.
This was excellent James!! Thank you so much for sharing all of this🥰 On the lip balm cases, the samples mfgrs send to the client for approval are sometimes made from a small batch so that they are perfect rather than being pulled from the same process that the live run will use, which is what's supposed to happen. 90% of the time, this works out and saves a lot of time but it's not proper.
I have a suspicion that those fakes maybe were being sold at Shopee stores or something similar. Shopee is amazing when it comes to finding small businesses and I can buy directly from Korea through there, but I've seen Thai/Chinese/Indonesian sellers with suspicious products there, and not only designer products but also hard-to-get products like special edition/niche products from brands like Nivea and Japanese skincare and makeup.
I did think brand owners didn't need to declare ADs on their personal pages. That might be the interpretation of the American laws as I've heard them explained before. It is clearer to declare AD/sponsored so the audience knows there is a vested interest in the influencer selling a product. If the influencer says it's their brand in the post, is that enough? I can see how an influencer thinks its obviously their product but it's always gonna be someone's first contact with the influencer/brand.
I'm curious, in the UK, would it be sufficient for a brand owner to state "brand owner" in associated brand posts on their personal account? Or do they need to say "ad" or "sponsored" ? I ask just because I could see an argument (not that I necessarily agree) that a post isn't an ad or a sponsorship if there isn't a marketing agreement laid out between the brand and the influencer account. Many personal influencer accounts are businesses themselves, so I could see an (unethical) argument that stating it's an ad would be incorrect if there isn't actual money exchanging between businesses. Just curious if anyone knows what the laws state in those circumstances.
Using your "authority" over clients actually violates the oath that all in the health care system takes...at least here in Canada. That is to do no harm. We're taught that your position comes with a natural authority and you should never hold it over another. It can be construed as a type of abuse actually. We have a responsibility to be responsible, as truthful as we can professionally be, and to do what is in the best interest of your patients. Being on social media doesnt change that. In fact, one would think it only intensifies the responsibilities. I love that Dr. Mike posted at the end of his response video, a video on the things he said that was wrong (misinformation). It was refreshing. Also, watch Dr. Mikes video on the beauty influencer who contracted a flesh eating microbacterium from injectables that she found out was being ordered from Ali express 🤯

Yes years ago I bought a Chanel foundation online when I’d been buying it from the Boots Chanel counter in the UK for a couple of years… I was taking a break from running my then business when I was only 18, due to family issues so was looking for cheaper options & I found the exact Chanel foundation on line which looked so genuine that I bought it. Once it arrived & I opened it, it was in a class bottle with identical labelling & colours… the lot, but at the back of my mind I could see the colour wasn’t correct & remember not seeing the shade I always got from Boots as an option on line so just assumed I’d picked wrong as online swatches can be misleading. So I used it, several times, however it never felt, smelled or looked or seemed the same… never broke me out or anything but just something cheap about it… but the shade matched my tan perfectly. So I decided to save up & go buy from Boots again but I took the bottle I bought on line with me to get that shade, well that shade never existed in the Chanel range, it was fake, cheap nasty stuff, which I guess I knew deep down 😂 But the point of my story is that this was 20 years ago… so imagine how much scams/fakes & the rest of it have increased in that 20 years?? Be careful people ❤❤❤❤

The rule is don't try to treat your condition based on online advice, consult your doctor. And if he doesn't listen find a new doctor. And never believe anything from tiktok. It's a swamp full of bull crap.
Exactly! People should practice this more instead of listening to online medical professionals.
I trust no one...
Yes, but I'd even apply this offline to an extent. Always get a second opinion if you feel you need it!
"All men should take these medications."
"That's potentially lethal."
"I didn't have enough time in my Not Medical Advice TikTok to fit in the nuance."
"You didn't have enough time to add the word 'Not' at the beginning of that sentence?"

Has anyone ever actually investigate Dr Charles's background. Every video I see correcting him makes him seem like the c+ student from medical school.
From what I can tell he’s still in med school, he hasn’t become a doctor yet
@@thebirdchannelforfans623 that is so odd, considering how much misinformation he is doing I would think medical school would have him under disciplinary action.
@@honeybee347we just need people to report him to the school
My thoughts exactly. The way he's so stubborn and thinks he's superior to others , shows what type of student he would have been. I can see him being kicked out of class and never passing any tests. Ugh he's so obnoxious. Edit. I just read the other comment that he's still in med school and not a doctor. He definitely shouldn't be calling himself one then.
Googling him, I found a dermatology clinic that he works for (and the start up he started). He is a dermatologist, but clearly speaks out of his expertise and his start up (which looks sketchy hahaha).
But yeah the clinic is The Dermatology Specialists in NY. I wonder if he’s just trying to make rage bait for engagement
Ads (undisclosed and disclosed) will be the end of social media. Influences used to save you money by telling you what works but now they just recommend everything. We’re back to square one and are better off taking chances on products IMO
I’m thinking he only apologized because he maybe got in trouble at his work. Sounds forced.
It's so unethical for a licensed medical professional to behave in such a way. He's only backtracking because of the backlash. I mean we had people in the US taking ivermectin and drinking bleach... Medical professionals have to be responsible for their words.
But those people took the word from non-medical people. I agree that medical content creators should be careful, but some people are just not thinking before taking advice and checking it.
@@Melanie-sj8mmI mean. You have snake oil doctors who recommended that to either garner or keep an audience of a,,, specific kind.

The ad thing is so needed. It doesn’t matter if she’s the brand owner people won’t know that immediately. The other day I came across a brand account posting videos on TH-cam shorts like it was just an influencer and not a brand. People in the comments genuinely believed it was just a girl in her bedroom reviewing these products and not affiliated with despite the brand name and pfp , and the very clear product placement
he can't possibly be a real dr. incredibly unprofessional, childish, irresponsible, flash-in-the-pan internet personality - James, thanks for sharing this! 💖
being corrected on something you were wrong about isn’t “negative discourse”. it’s just a correction.
Constructive Critism, so people just don't know how to take it smh Dr.Charles.
OMG! As a doctor I have met hazardly wrong but very arrogant doctors like this both professionally and as a patient.
Amazon is notorious for the amount of fake products they sell, I try to buy from Ulta or Sephora when it comes to the high priced items…
Just because he was the last ranking student from Harvard and Duke, doesn’t mean he is a reliable “doctor.”
Dude clearly confused “I walked around the Harvard campus once” with “Graduated from Harvard” lol
I was a manager at Ulta for 7 years. More than once, I had customers come into the store with a prestige brand beauty product (mostly fragrance but some eyeshadow palettes etc) because they wanted to see if we could help them determine if they were fake. I have seen some really good dupes. The best being Chanel fragrances which appeared to have been in the original bottle but the scent was definitely not right. I get it, these things are expensive; HOWEVER, if you are not buying it at regular retail price or from a reputable retailer then where do you think it’s coming from exactly? 🤔 it’s either fake or stolen merchandise!
Did he just get drunk in the parking lot of these schools? Is that what he means by he "went to Harvard"
I mean, maybe he just took a tour once, so technically he *went* to Harvard and Duke.
He went in to pee probably

Winnie Harlow spf lip gloss made my lips burn SO bad and I got a chemical type burn on my lips (red, bumpy, and very irritated and painful) maybe because there’s essential oils in them? (I think?) And none of these things are listed as “lip plumping” but there were clear irritants in them. Like who wants a lip mask that burns your lips?! They finally just gave me a $ refund since I no couldn’t use my of the products
That sounds more like a severe topical allergic reaction than a chemical burn or something caused by a limp plumping product or a basic irritant.

"[I] never engage in negative discourse." = I don't like when people disagree with me because I can't support my opinion with facts.
They said he got his degree from Temu 😂 I howled.

So I decided to save up & go buy from Boots again but I took the bottle I bought on line with me to get that shade, well that shade never existed in the Chanel range, it was fake, cheap nasty stuff, which I guess I knew deep down 😂
But the point of my story is that this was 20 years ago… so imagine how much scams/fakes & the rest of it have increased in that 20 years??
