    Wow, this was my "local" and I must had had hundreds of steaks there over the years. I saw it go through various owners. There's a bit of a mystery who owns it now. The last records showed a real estate agent in Chatswood. The site was originally an old boathouse. One bit of trivia - the little space underneath with the separate entry door was a small flat. One owner had a deal with a little cruise boat that did runs to and from Sydney Harbour.

      I really must visit the location , because the paddle wheeler ,then called "Turrumburra " which used to cruise the Lane Cove River was later moved to the Hawkesbury River at Windsor . I asked the owner how this was achieved, to which he replied that a crane was used to lift the vessel over the weir to the tidal section of the river , then "sailed" to Windsor . This sounds almost incredible as I thought that the water would be too shallow and rocky, not to mention any overhead bridge clearances . As a matter of trivia , " The Two Ronnies " appeared on this boat in a musical scene , and this is from the program "The Two Ronnies Downunder ", at Lane Cove River Park !

      @@murraykitson1436wow. The two Ronnies. Lol. Yeah, there were photos in local papers of the crane at Fullers Bridge lifting it over.

    So sad to see the place like this now I remember as a teenager going here with family and friends and this place was so good I remember having an out of this world steak and my sister could not finish of her lamb sovelaki skewers so I polished those off and they were so good as well . Hope it can be saved as it does not look to bad at the moment however if left too long it will be totaly destroyed .

    This was close to the scene of the discovery of the dead bodies of the infamous "Bogle /Chandler " mystery in the 1960s .

    Oh my days. Me and my ex husband used to have steak, baked potato (wrapped in foil) and garlic bread here in late 1990s. We used to live North Ryde/Macquarie Park. It was a lovely drive at night. The decor and menu was a little dated, more 80s but we loved it. Good solid food at good prices. Left Oz 20 years to live in UK. This is a blast from the past. Thanks for sharing 😊

    At one point , this was called the "Double Bay Steakhouse " although it was nowhere near Double Bay ! Apparently part of a chain of restaurants . There was also a kiosk opposite which catered for picknicners in the Lane Cove River Park , but the last time I remember seeing this would have been in the 1970s .

      I remember often going to the original in Double Bay when I was young. The steakhouse closed in the early 80s and is now used for a totally unrelated business

    Was very popular for decades and underwent a big makeover in 2014 and went all upmarket, was too expensive and the longtime customer base abandoned it in droves from memory.

    Had been meaning to go to this place over the years, but I would forget until the next time I drove by. Found an article from 2014 when it had it's major facelift, I guess the prediction didn't come true "If the recipe is right, this suburban steakhouse on the Lane Cove River can be the go-to hub of the community for another 45 years"
    There's an abandoned house not far from this too, although it looks like it could fall over at any moment

    • @ForTheBirbs
      @ForTheBirbs 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yep, "Whitefire". Unfortunately they couldn't get enough business to stay afloat. The old house has been demolished.

    • @oges74
      @oges74 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah it's a nice riverside location but would make it hard getting customers being out of the way a bit. Ok couple years since I drove on the back streets and recall the house thinking I should go look at it, but never did, didn't look too stable even then
