  • Teach your dog to TARGET and TOUCH your hand and then move that behavior to most any other object. This is a great skill to teach your dog to build focus and also to do tasks if you want to train your dog to do things such as turning off a light switch or opening a door.
This video covers the basics to introducing your dog to the behavior. The complete lesson is available on my Member Section at:
    robertcabral.com
You can teach the TOUCH / TARGET command to most any dog regardless of breed, age or size. It's a fun skill that your dog will LOVE to learn!

love your videos, they have helped immensely. I have watched all 16 of your original how-to videos and am going through your entire dog training playlist. I adopted a 2 year old GSD/Border Collie mix. Currently I am struggling with him seemingly getting bored of the tug or treat rewards and he would rather walk around sniffing the ground. We limit our play/training sessions to 5-15 minutes. He's a very high drive dog just seems he has some bad habits to break from him being a stray for 2 years. Thanks for all the free training.

Starting this today with my 4 month old black lab. I feel like this will be nice way to refine his focus on me. Still having issues on our walks with him pulling and loosing focus at times. Thanks for the tips

My GSD learned touch without treat in the hand, but he picks things up so quick. Must try this with GSD #2! But the sending away touch is so useful, I send him to "touch the big sister" upstairs. At dinnertime, I had him bring a wooden spoon to her.

Robert, are there any books or authors that you’ve studied in the past to develop your vast dog training knowledge? Any books that we should read to develop a foundation?

Hi Robert - as always, amazing video. Thank you. Would mind providing recommendations for balanced trainers in Dallas? Not sure if you have contacts in the area. Thanks in advance for your help.

Question for you: I came from another video on how to teach your dog to sit on first command. My husky malamute mix knows all my commands, but they’re not perfected. I have to ask him a few times before he actually sits, and the same goes for other commands. He’s not food or treat motivated, nor is he toy motivated, so how would you suggest going about perfecting all commands?

This worked for me, GSD who is very picky about treats, I bought Fresh Pet food, froze it and cut back on his feeding in the bowl. He liked his food okay but went nuts for the fresh stuff and he ONLY got it when training. I didn't have to worry about too many treats.

Only say command once. If dog doesn't follow it, say "No" and repeat the command again. Be patient when you are teaching. Treat immediately.
