"Who is this?" "This is you in 20 years! 'Who is this' I swear!" "Oh, God! Chanel attack." "Just tell him you're obsessed with BUtterfield 8 and go like that." Taken from Gilmore Girls S05E09
Gaslighting and guilt tripping Lorelai is the only way Emily knows how to do. She can't say please come over and help it's always demanding and threating. Oh yeah Emily is a good mom. Not.
The seems very similar to the scene earlier on when Paris is panicked about going on a date with Jamie and Rory calms her down. Just an amazing parallel between the two.
I am not a TV watcher, but I had looked after an elderly lady who loved this show so we watched together and I so much enjoyed it- kind of like a Harlequin romance (remember those?). Her daughter died suddenly and my lady moved away but I have fond memories, funny the little things. Also, be aware that even if your mum is in a condition to need a caregiver, it may not be her who goes first :(
Her date with Simon turned out okay & years later when Richard passed away she ended dating. I think she is way better @ dating & interacting with men than her daughter & grand daughter
See this is one of the many reasons why I absolutely hate the revival and do not consider it canon. Lorelai and her parents had deep seated issues, but Lorelai was always sympathetic when she could tell her parents needed her or when tragedy struck. Here for instance, she feels for Emily and shows it. She helped Richard when he was setting up his business; the two of them actually had a lot of sensitive moments throughout the series. When Richard ended up in hospital both times (series 1 and Series 6 I think) she was emotional and spoke about him positively and was there for her mum. And suddenly she's so devoid of empathy and and any positive feelings towards her parents that she lambasts her father on his funeral? It made no sense and was completely out of character. Christopher was a deadbeat father BUT it was always known that he loved Rory. The final scene between him and Rory completely undermines that. Luke's character development and growth in season 7 is retconned and he's back to not wanting Lorelai to have any meaningful involvement in April's life. In fact Luke and Lorelai's relationship just seemed forced. Logan and Rory's character development and growth in season 7 is retconned. Rory especially - it makes no sense that she would happily become 'the other woman' AGAIN. AYITL basically cast all the characters as anti-heroes instead of flawed and human. None of them, except Jess and Emily (whose arc was out of character), are likeable in the end - and that is so very different to the rest of the show. I genuinely feel like ASP was pissed off she didn't win the negotiations in season 7 and that the show carried on without her and so on a complete ego trip she decided to turn everything upside down to drive home that 'it's my show and I can do what I like with the characters'. As far as I'm concerned the show ended in season 7 and AYITL doesn't exist in canon. Death of the author and all that.
I agree with everything you said but I actually think the funeral thing made sense...she was grieving and people always end up having complicated thoughts and moments while in grief. But yeah everything else was pure shit. ASP was so bitter she broke Lorelai and Luke up in S6 and had Lorelai sleep with Chris just to leave the new writers with all of that to deal with and as a Rory and Logan stan it frustrates me because S7 Rory and Logan was the healthiest relationship ever for Rory but no one watched it because they were so mad at Lorelai and Chris. And then she completely undoes all of Logan's character development in the new revival. Didn't she say she didn't consider S7 canon and never watched any of it? Basically she picked and chose what was easy (the fact that Lorelai was back with Luke) and then ruined everything else. Also, the townies are annoying yes but Lorelai and Rory were never disdainful of them. In AYITL it was painful watching both of them look down on everyone else.
Lorelai: "Who is this?"
Emily: "THIS IS YOU IN TWENTY YEARS!"
Lol. Emily threatening Lorelai with booking a DAR function at the Dragonfly every day is priceless...
and it worked like a charm xD

If only I'd had a crystal ball, I might have been able to eat my salad.
A moment to appreciate the fact that Emily evidently has game. “Hello.”
Lol. "I'm never leaving, in fact, I'm going with you"
I hated this episode because I felt bad for Emily at the end and then she had to go and be a jerk two episodes later.
+Lori M Yeah, S5 is not a good year for Emily.
