- The Bosch GBH 18V-21 (Akku-Bohrhammer) is a mid-size cordless, brushless SDS rotary hammer. Typical Bosch blue quality in a nice, easily handle package that still hits hard and gets 'er done. Let's see how she stacks up to other hammers, like the GBH 18V-26, and the rest.

Just picked this puppy up from Lowes for $141 with a bundle. The receipt says this is the lowest it can be sold. Not sure if I’ll keep it. Watching your video makes me lean towards keeping it. Thanks mate.
I have the drill, got it when I converted from DeWalt to Bosch. Nice compact size and really popular in England, especially with the window fitting boys.
What made you switch? I'm all in on Bosch now but curious.
@@mrjellow warranty fixes take 3 business days for Bosch and about 3 weeks for dewalt. Also had a DeWalt impact driver and the forward reverse switch jammed and wouldn't budge for a few minutes when it had my finger wrapped round the bit as it caught my glove. My grandad has never rated DeWalt and always uses Bosch or anything else instead if he can.
@@LiamBrightman Thanks for your reply. I'm all in on Bosch too. DeWalt is crazy cheap though in comparison but it feels cheaply made and is made in China which I really dislike
@@mrjellow no worries. Yeah most of my Bosch is either Malaysia or Hungary. That's why most people start with DeWalt like I did, you know the name and it's pretty good for cheaper than Bosch, Makita etc.

I have one of these, hate it. It's now in the reserve box, replaced it with a 253 from Dewalt which is much nicer to use being brushed. I had a 253 that I regretfully sold, won't be selling this one.
My main gripe with the Bosch is the high speed which leads to a lack of torque, 1800rpm is too fast for a rotary hammer. Rotary hammer drills are designed to smash through hard materials, this requires less rotational torque than a combi drill, but even so, they still need some torque, and this Bosch just had none. Quite often I'll be drilling wet or damp masonry, the Bosch would bind up continously.
Amazed at the results of your tests, I expected this Bosch to come last, but faired quite well.

Thanks mate! Totally agree about the rpm!! I think this is too fast for concrete (as are the dewalts) but it goes fine. I've heard that it's common in Europe to use these for larger wood drilling, and I even got a set of spade bits with a GBH 226😅
Honestly these are big drills but lack the torque of a mid size combi, so you're better off getting one of those for big wood holes
It crosses the line between hammer drill and rotary hammer.

I use concrete retaining wall blocks. In this case national masonry linearwall corner blocks.
They're not as tough as poured concrete, around 12-15MPa. So, the drill speed will be a bit faster but it's far easier and more consistent than just using random bits of concrete or mixing my own all the time.
But not without its problems, as you'll soon see in an upcoming video

What's the battery life/ runtime like?
Could you stick a 26mm bit in it just to see how it manages if at all just out of interest to get a comparison with the 26 model. Nice videos! CheerS
I actually stuck a 26 in the 18mm Bosch once! Don't Think I've published that footage but I think it worked alright, not that you'd want to do it often
@@BoltahDownunder Hi, what have i got to look for on e bay to get the right drill and chisel bits for this; make sure in the details it says 21 mm diameter as the main ad lines dont always make it clear and can you also fit an ordinary chuck key on it ? thanks
the 21 stands for 2,1 J impact energie the bigger brothers the 26 hast 2,6 J.... at least the realy big maschines the 35 and so on there the number gives the max diameter of usable drills don't know why bosch is doing this.... i think the range of using these tools is verified.... the smal ones are the most used and most buyed and thes are for drilling comon home sizes in different materials or using the chissel Funktion for tiles etc..... the realy big ones are to break down walls ore drill extra large holes in konstructionside uses too.... but in the end the big ones should be named, at least the same way in average of their max J and nit their diameter which doesn't make any sens to me
Run a pro core battery it will perform better
its a brushless motor thats because that y it sounds like a mri bud
battery makes huge diff with these..
