This definitely a tighter, more polished version of the song, both in the actual music/lyrics and the performance. That "first pass" version feels like a demo or jam session compared to this one. This new version is absolutely worthy of being on a Metallica album.

The Dio Rising Medley is in the Dio "This Is Your Life" tribute album, Remember Tomorrow is in the Kerrang's "Maiden Heaven" Iron Maiden tribute and When A Blind Man Cries is in the "Re-Machined" Deep Purple tribute album. These songs have been around for 2, 8 and 4 years, respectively. I'm reeeeeeeaaaally glad that the new album was made of completely new songs.
This song is really good, but I reckon it would into Death magnetic better than htsd. The only magneticky-sounding song on htsd was confusion, and even that was more ajfa-ish than anything... but if they had replaced murder one or Manunkind with this I would have preferred it...

Iain Marchant they should've made it a 14 track album and included both Lords and the Ronnie Rising Medley, both of them are sick tracks that should've been in the main album

I dunno. I get a very black album vibe from the guitar tone and the drum sound, plus the audible bass. But the vocals and the riffs are more early Metallica than that to me. Kill em all, ride the lightning and master of puppets riff and vocal vibes for me
I am 46 and I LOVE METALLICA !! And I have been playing guitar for 30 years..They are still tight as all hell..But they don't make them like they did B4..I just don't care for it.. It all sounds the same...

Shortening the part at 5:42 was a very bad decision. I feel like the First Pass version gets the essence out of that medley. The pause after Wah wah wah wAh waaaah seems essential to me. But, of course, this sounds much tighter and professional.
The sound quality is better in this 1, but they cutted down they middle section which is the best part of the song and made it boring. Too bad because this is the best song they made the last 28 years. They should cut the 1 minute from the rest of the song when they play the same and the same again! Anyway this is a classic and i wish the rest of the album was as good as this!
