The truck has been great but I need to drive it more. I have a 69 as well as a 67 in line to do. Some decisions need to be made soon. Can't keep them all. Thanks for tuning in. Stevo
That is a smart upgrade Steve. I am surprised the throttle body worked that well with the original intake. That job would hard on the knees. I am so happy you could eat off that engine.
Nice truck, I'm in New Zealand and have had a few 80's square body Chevys in the past but right now I've got a 95 C1500 5.7TBI ex cab which I just did the intake gaskets on. (what a pain in the ass that was) But also have a 66 Bel Air 2 door post with a 454 with 5 speed TKO 600 manual and what a scary beast she is, a real sleeper with hub caps etc. I'm about to do the intake gaskets on her too which will be so easy compared to the 350TBI. My 454 is honestly the least complicated and most reliable car, cant beat it. Thanks for the video.
I love the ole 454 as well, very easy to work on. Jealous about the two door Bel Air, a definite head turner. May have to easy off the pedal with the fuel prices these days. Stevo
@@stevoj8959 Man the fuel here in New Zealand is at the highest it's ever been, what makes it worse is that our evil government takes about 52% profit from every dollar we spend on gas. The Bel Air is on my channel if you want to see the old girl. Cheers mate for the great videos you do
I do have a 69 as well with a 6 cylinder in it but it is pouched. Would probably get better mileage than a big V8. My dad had a 69 when I was growing up and there were so good memories with that as well. Thanks. Stevo
I still have one 8- Tracker player on the shelf with my small radio collection I agree that the modern intake will be better getting rid of the factory Idea of the EX heat ports...Like the double snorkel air cleaner
Steve, I've been running a BBC in my '71 Ford F-250 highboy since 1979. A little over a year ago I upgraded to the 700R4/4L60 trans. I love this setup. With 4.11 diff I am going 65 MPH at 1900 RPM.
@@stevoj8959Finally put this same intake on mine. So far I can say I must have gotten rid of 30 lbs. I have forgotten through the years just how heavy the cast intake is. 😊
if you have coolant passages on the back of a intake ,use them .I plumbed them with hoses ,the engine ran cooler ,and I had to enrichen the idle circuit
In all my years working on old farm truck engines like the 454 did i ever use s vacumme or even been that clean yet they were worked hard ever day Good vid tho
If you had a swivel socket you should be able to get it or just use a wrench. Put the wrench on a fully torqued bolt to get a feel first. This intake really keeps cool. Thanks. Stevo
When I try and be normal, I get around 16 MPG and about 9- 10 when I am pulling my trailer. I have not done an empty long highway cruise yet to see what the best mileage would be. It is hard not to tromp on it though. Thanks. Stevo
Actually in stock form you will get 30 hp and almost 50 tq with just adding headers so to me it's a no Brainer to add headers and summit has a good set for 250$ I have a 77 tripple e motorhome I installed air Gap intake and headers and it's night and day!
@@jesseparadis6141I went yesterday at the Arlington location , they have a clearance section in the back and I found some for my 454 for 80 bucks regular 340
What is the part number on the intake? Have a small block 350 with a fitech efi that keeps burning up circuit board that controls injectors every 2 months. Want to use the part number and see if jegs can match it to what I need. May be the same issue getting too hot front the exhaust flow.
The part number is EDL - 7561. This is for a 454 but they should be able to figure out the right one for you. Good luck and I hope this helps you cure the problem. Stevo J
Change ur fuel lines to the OUT Side of ur frame & insulat ! Yes today's gas boil's at around 95 degrees , so when ur fuel line runs there by the Exhust Vapor lock ! Fuel now day's are made for fuel injection ,
I did that very thing just shortly after I installed it. I have the lines insulated right up to the throttle body and not an issue. The new intake helped keep thing way cooler as well. Thanks for tuning in. Stevo
Did your instructions say not to tighten the top holes (#5, 10, 11, and 16) with a torque wrench? I also noticed you haven't drilled relief holes on your thermostat, but you do have the bypass hose installed, I believe. Is that the stock item, or aftermarket? How much re-learning did your fuel injection have to do?
I have Scotchbright every where, the only name I will use but I do have some Roloc products but never thought to use them. Some swear by them. Thanks Stevo
Just curious why you didn't use a phenolic carb spacer. The laminate transfers approximately ten times less heat to the carburetor base resulting in cooler denser fuel/air mixtures. ?
Anything with a Chevy 454 in it makes me happy. I missed you putting the truck together so is the engine a new one or rebuilt ? Dad had a Chevy 68 with 327. Was a good truck but couldn't keep paint on the dang thing. Thanks for sharing.
this helped me alot thanks im 15 years old and just bought my first square. Its a 73 454 how do i buy an intake im confused with the oval or rectangle port on the intake what do i need? or how do i check? thank you gramps
Sorry no. The engine would just turn over. With the heat, the unit would read a high fuel pressure and not turn the pump on. Also insulated the lines and it is working good now. Stevo
I found it ran a bit smoother with the Edelbrock intake but as for mpg, I'm not sure it made a difference. The big difference is it kept the throttle body cool and that is what I wanted to achieve. Thanks. Stevo
I am not running it in the winter where the cross over would help but in the summer, everything is much cooler and it runs better. Big benefit in my mind. Stevo
I believe the intake will be different because of a different year. Other than that it should all work. Your dealer should be able to point you to the right one, there are quite a few. Stevo

It's funny how those big blocks run better with the stock cast iron manifold.
Stock seems to always be better but things got so hot it was causing issues. With this manifold, The EFI stays nice and cool. Thanks. Stevo
I love the truck and the 8 track player. I always liked when the player would change in the middle of a song. LOL 😀
Not many know what an 8 track is though. It's a good conversation piece

I was surprised at the difference it made.
Hope everything works out! Runs cooler and get better gas mileage!
Its winter so I am not driving it right now but hope to give an update when the numbers come in. Thanks
Beautiful. My 69 is not as original as yours. Absolutely love it
I have a 69 as well that I will eventually get to. Going to keep it original with the stock 350. I need a good grocery getter. Stevo

Big blocks need to breath, headers with 3" duals will complement the air gap big time.
I have thought about that but with a stock engine the benefit to the cost ratio might not be there. Would sure sound good. Stevo
