In this video I will show you how good early iMac 2008 is today. I will use it not only like "media center", but also as a second screen, cloud storage and even external speaker for my main device. This video will be interesting, so have a nice watch!

Yeah turning off that thing and avoiding animations makes TH-cam usable even on a Pentium 4.
Just please for the love of God do not attempt to use a Celeron D for web browsing. In fact, don't use a Celeron D for anything, its best use even at launch has always been as a keychain.
Core 2 Duo is still outperforming the lowest end Intel CPUs of today. So yeah if you can find an old Mac for cheap, it's really a no-brainer. A 50€ MacBook from 2009-ish is way better than a 100€ brand New laptop (if it has a Celeron N CPU, avoid it).
I have a late 2008 iMac Core Duo with 6gb of ram literally sitting next to me! Ha!
I've been wanting to do an SSD upgrade on it, but have been procrastinating! LMAO!
I'm actually typing this comment on a late 2013 21.5" iMac that I found local as a "parts only" for $50!
All it needed was a replacement of it's S.M.A.R.T. failed stock 256gb Nvme SSD!
While doing the whole required teardown to replace it I went ahead and maxed the ram to 16gb and then added an additional 1tb SATA SSD!
Currently running OS Catalina.
Final specs:
i7-4770
1gb GTX 750M
16gb ram
256gb blade Nvme SSD
1tb SATA SSD
Not too shabby IMO right?
I mainly do audio production work, so after just a bit of refurbishing labor, and an additional $40 investment for parts & tools?
I'd be willing to argue that I legit salvaged myself a fairly competent little intel Mac audio workhorse for just a mere $90 total!

Hi. This is a very interesting video. I have 2 questions: I own an early 2008 imac 24", 4GB RAM, SSD and Radeon 2600 Pro GPU. Installed is Mac OS 10.11 (E. Cap.). Is it possible to watch Netflix, etc. as per today (Feb., 6), and which browser would support it. In case I would update to Sierra or even Mojave as you show here, would Wifi keep working? I have heard otherwise. Is there a link available to download the Mojave upgrade binaries? Thanks in advance.
Well, I you can watch Netflix in browser, right? 😅 As for TH-cam performance you saw in the video. I use Chromium Legacy browser, check out what Mac OS it supports for now. If it doesn’t support 10.11 (which I think it does since as I remember Chromium Legacy supports even 10.7.5), then you can try this guide to update to Mojave, Wi-Fi at least for me works: th-cam.com/video/v9sE_FhSdT8/w-d-xo.htmlsi=j455Z6V5ASm_HlJ0
If the performance is low, then I guess there is no way to help it 😢. I use it as a machine near my 3D printer which just sends commands on it.

I mainly use my late 2008 iMac as an external DSP/VST host device. For example, I use it to host midi into EZDrummer with an older audio interface with 5-dim MIDI, run the stereo outs into my more current interface and...

How did you add it as display for Window machine? How did you connect the two machines?
As I explained in video, I created virtual dislay (guides can be found on TH-cam) and streamed it using discord on mac.

There's actually a lot of ways you can optimize this setup. An SSD and a RAM upgrade let you easily run the latest macOS so it'll do most tasks on its own. I've used mine a lot for 1080p video editing, it does it just fine.
You probably mistake it with newer model. It's speed limit is sata 2, which is twice more then it's HDD ofc, but still I don't think it's enough for latest mac os. It's MAX Ram support is 6 (4+2 DDR2! modules) and it has FirePro Gpu with 256mb of VRAM, which is only enough for 720p stable video on TH-cam.
@@OleksiisTech I guess our definitions of "usable" differ. Having suffered for years with a super low end Core 2 Duo 2GB RAM Dell, I have a lot of patience for low end PCs.
But yeah realistically they are quite dated considering that a very basic Ryzen 3 PC does 4k editing no problem and handles any task without a stutter.

i got one of these that already had an SSD mod installed and the original keyboard and mighty mouse for free.
I installed 120gb ssd in it a coupe of weeks ago, but haven’t set on OS there (still). I just wanted to get that 1TB HDD to work in my home PC :D

Thank you for your comment, don't know about power consumption, I haven't wattmeter, but I wouldn't expect a machine from 2008 to be really power efficient. My guess is that it's arround 150w.
