Her first movie and she got the lead role as well. That's what I find fascinating. She did a few more horror movie flicks and her career pretty much took off in the mid 80s.
This is the film that made Jamie Lee Curtis known as the Scream Queen, brought the slasher genre into the mainstream, and made an icon out of Michael Myers. Also, to that scam bot, if it's still here, KEEP AWAY. There'll be no scams while I'm around! Does that compute?!
At the end of the "Scream", the characters watched this film on TV. An interesting fact is that in the movie "Halloween: 20 years later", the characters watched "Scream 2" on TV... 😅
If not mentioned already; The mask is William Shatners face. A mold was made for another film, found in the prop department and they cast the rubber mask and tossed on a wig.
Back then we all knew Jamie Lee's parents Tony Curtis and Janet Leigh as fantastic actors. This was our first look at what Jamie Lee could do. Michael was scary as heck to us because: 1. He never said anything 2. He was the first indestructible human killer in horror movies. All the others stayed dead if you gig in a ki*l shot before Michael. 3. We didn't know WHY he was killing people. The one major blooper in the movie is when Annie called Laurie right back after the chewing call. No one could dial a number back that fast on a rotary phone. Push button phones existed buf most people still had rotary dial in '78. Yes. Annie was the Sheriff's daughter. Believe me I still check the back seat of my car before I get in because of this movie. Others only contributed to that. Thd mask is a William Shatner Captain Kirk mask that they got at the last minute. They changed the eyeholes, messed up the hair and painted the whole thing white. It made Michael even creepier.
The origin of the first HALLOWEEN movie began when Irwin Yablans, an indie distributor, said he wanted to release a movie about Babysitter Murders. That simple premise was his idea -- something scary with young actors. John Carpenter co-wrote a script with Debra Hill, and they created Michael Myers and Laurie Strode, etc., and set the story at Halloween. Yablans loved that Halloween had never been used as a movie title before. "Dr. Loomis" was named after a character in PSYCHO (1960). Sheriff Lee Brackett was named after Hollywood screenwriter Leigh Brackett, who received a co-writing credit on THE EMPIRE STRIKES BACK (1980). John Carpenter's next job after HALLOWEEN was directing Kurt Russell as ELVIS (1979) for Dick Clark Productions on ABC-TV.
The ooooooooold school way to experience modern horror! I was ….. 11 when this came out? And I did not see it until I was 12 or 13 or so……but it was pretty freaky. Pretty scary.
14:35 Michael Myers caused all the patients to be outside. He killed staff & created chaos so he could escape in the confusion. Out of all the Slashers he has the most superior intellect. This is demonstrated in this film, Part 2 & particularly in Part 4. Halloween 1978 is my all time favorite Horror/Slasher movie. To me it's perfect from the writing to the direction to the execution.
Not gonna lie, I was waiting for the kitten to accidentally jump scare you by climbing up the side of the chair and sneaking onto the arm of said chair the whole reaction lol.
It's nice to see new younger people see an appreciate this movie and its film style. Because some younger people don't understand it. Because it takes its time to properly build up the sense of fear and tension. Some younger people don't understand it an don't like it because. They are used to the newer way wich is fast pace an just kill after kill. Wich does not really build up tension and fear because it's just kill after kill.

When Myers is dressed as a ghost nobody comments on how he killed with the phone cord. 😂
Love how all these reactors are commenting on Michael Myers's breathing sounds like Darth Vader's. It fit's with the Tommy character dressed as Luke Skywalker for Halloween. Carpenter was a fan.
@@Kenny-ep2nf That's one of the modifications. It was painted white, the eyebrows were removed, the hair was colored darker, and the eye-holes were cut larger.
A lot of horror movies don't age well, but the great ones like Halloween and the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre can still get to someone if they're watching alone in a darkened room. As you have discovered. 👻👓🎃
4:05 That’s not a police car Blue. That’s the car Michael Myers stole from the nurse and Dr. Loomis when he escaped from the Sanitarium. 15:03 That’s Lynda and her boyfriend. Every little thing and detailed you mention about who was going to die and how people acted or reacted towards something, it's so obvious in this movie because this was the one who started it all, you have seen it a lot of times now, but this was the first movie, the one who started it all, who put the slasher genre into mainstream and put all the tropes and cliches about horror movies, as it was so big they tried to copy the style and to this day that style and cliches remain. Btw. To anyone who also thinks "how does he get away that quickly everytime?" I recommend the movie "Behind the mask: The Rise of Leslie Vernon"
Iconic till today
I believe the fact that her mother stared in Alfred Hitchcocks psycho is partly why she was cast as homage
She played a waitress in a Columbo episode

Love your reaction! The original Halloween (1978) was all about scares and suspense. Plus, with its iconic music, it’s clearly an instant classic.
