the old father Merrin (he only was 44 years old) , was the 3 eyes Raven in "Games of Thrones", he was also in "Star Wars". He died in 2020 at the age of 90.
Happy Halloween! This was the same Demon that almost killed Father Merrin long ago. It wanted a rematch. At the beginning of the film, Father Merrin was doing an archeological dig to find out as much as he could about the Demon. It was able to possess Reagan because she was playing with the Ouija board. Now for the scary part - 'The Exorcist' movie and novel were based on a real story.
We don't need demons from horror movies to frighten and destroy our souls , today we have the super wealthy elite, degenerate , overlords of this world to do it for us . This is just old school, BS entertainment for us to them seeing as they don't believe in God , the Devil or Hell just themselves and their wealth . The Exorcist" stands as an enduring landmark in the horror genre, captivating audiences and critics alike over the years. My appreciation for the horror genre has grown with time, and this film, directed by William Friedkin, has played a pivotal role in shaping my understanding of its power and potential. Beyond its reputation, which often includes references and parodies, "The Exorcist" continues to unnerve and unsettle me, even years after my initial viewing.
The musical piece, "Tubular Bells" was composed by Mike Oldfield in the 1970s and used for this classic. Other movies have borrowed it but this was the first movie to use it. The theme to Halloween is totally different. That was composed by John Carpenter, the movie's director.

I have a take.. Pazuzu actually felt cheated Father Merrin died naturally and it couldn't take revenge. It looked more bewildered and depressed in a way.
The actor who played the old priest... Merrin, was only like 44 when this movie came out. Also, there were two prequels released in the 90's I think, can't remember which one I saw (one was apparently so bad, it had to be re-shot), but it went into Merrin's battle 30 years earlier with the same demon that possesed the young girl in this movie. Also, for anyone who is a fan of the old Honeymooners tv show or Smokey and the Bandit... the actor who played the young priest was Jackie Gleason's son in law and father of actor Jason Patric.
Actor, Max von Sydow aka Father Merrin was transformed into elderly priest in his late 70's to early 80's by legendary special makeup artist, late great, Dick Smith and his staff. Max actually lived to be 90 years old until 2020. Jackie Gleason's grandson is Jason Patric whose birth name is John Anthony Miller III with Jason Miller, his father was John Anthony Miller Jr. Jason Patric is well known for 1987's The Lost Boys with Keifer Sutherland.
the priest who suggested Merrin and the priest at the end were both Jesuits in real life and the younger one taught Phillip Seymore Hoffman in High School
And that's the last time anyone ever ate pea soup. In Exorcist III, Father Karras is alive and living in a cell at an insane asylum. The sequel, Exorcist 2: the Heretic is completely worthless and silly. But The Exorcist III is directed by the author of the original book, and worth a watch.
Father Damien karras(Jason Miller) you may know his real life son he plays Michael in the vampire movie The Lost Boys!! Both are handsome and great actors!!
Ketty had the right answer to Lia's question! Father Dyer saw Father Karas's hand moving, so he knew Karas was still alive and could receive the Last Rites. Karas sacrificed himself while the demon was in him, so he saved Regan. Linda Blair (Regan) is active on social media and goes to horror cons. She recognizes the historic nature of this film and her role in it. She was also in _Exorcist II,_ but that movie is a hot mess, lol. It's absolutely bonkers, but it is entertaining. _Exorcist III_ is just a really good drama that follows the characters Lt. Kinderman and Father Dyer from this movie (but played by different actors). There is very little of the supernatural in it, but there is some great dialogue and one classic jumpscare.
and if I recall correctly (been a long time) III had a cameo from Father Karras and the demon who had jumped into his body before he jumped out the window explains that it took it years to revive the body and dig itself out of the grave.
You have been prepared for this movie because of all the imitations, since 1973. You have had emotional cushions. You have seen zombies, more vampires, more monsters, and very cheap scares. This movie has always been on a different level because it's played realistically. We saw lots of scary movies back then but not like this. People were walking out and fainting in the movie theaters back then. It happened to a kid and it made parents very scared.
Linda Blair did "The Exorcist 2" and the priest in the movie played by Richard Burton, helped her and was not killed. The second movie was all about her confronting the demon that possessed her before because she was still being tormented by it. They even go back to the house where it all happened. No one will say it's a sequel. Number 3 doesn't have Regan in it, it's about what became of Damien, good movie.
The final scene of Lt. Kinderman befriending Father Dyer was added for this expanded version. It sets up "The Exorcist III" (1990) nicely as these two (played by different actors) are the main characters there.

Out of all the movie, that scene at 30:07 haunted me when I ushered the rerelease of this movie in the late 1970s. I was tasked to remain behind after the matinee to clean the four theatres of the Quad Cinema and I always dreaded entering the one that played The Exorcised convinced the projector would turn on to reveal that scene and Regan speaking directly to me. That may seem weird but in a darkened theatre, the mind wanders.
You watched the Directors Cut that was reissued in 2005. Friedkin went back and added at the screenwriter William Peter Blatty's request more scenes that were originally edited out of the 1973 release. Both versions are equally terrifying, some prefer the original, some like the revised re-release.
Glad you ladies had each other for support while watching this groundbreaking shocking film. I was nineteen when my buddies and I saw this in 73. Some individuals had adverse reactions in theaters across America, fainting, vomiting and running out.
I actually feel kinda bad for the girl with her hair up, she seems like she is genuinely trying to watch and understand the movie, not so much giggling and talking through it. Oh, btw, this movie is actually based off of a true story. There's so much you'll never know when your mouth is always open and not your eyes and ears.
The music is Tubular Bells by Mike Oldfield. It's not the same as Halloween, but they are similar. That record not only launched Oldfield's career but was also the first big hit for Virgin Records, starting it's owner, Richard Branson, on his way to owning an airline and a space business. Saw a video on YT once where a guy told a funny story about the book on which ths ifilm was based. In the early 1970s, he was working in an office in Brighton, on the south coast of England. One of the guys in the office was reading "The Exorcist", and he was getting freaked out by it. He was having nightmares, hearing odd sounds in his house, and starting to believe that people in the street were following him or staring at him. The people in the office just though he nuts though and laughed at him Eventually he came in one day and said, "right, I'm getting rid of this bloody book! At lunchtime I'm going to go down to the sea and throw it off the end of the pier!" Come lunchtime, he picked up the book and strode determinedly out of the office. As soon as he was gone, the guy telling the story went out to the bookshop around the corner and bought another copy of the book. He brought it back to the office, put it under the tap in the sink until it was soaking wet, and then put it in the book guy's desk drawer. The book guy came back at the end of the lunch hour, looking please with himself, and declared that he had indeed thrown the book off the pier and it was gone now for good. Then he settled down to get on with his work. then about ten minutes later, he opened his desk drawer...😈😈😈🤣😂😅
I have a Halloween dog kerchief just like that one for my dog. ** Another version. What you watched is the "Director's Cut", an extended version. In 1973 certain scenes were cut for the theatrical release.
John Carpenter, the director of "Halloween", also wrote theme music to the movie. The one who did the music for this movie is Mike Oldfield, the title of this song is, "Tubular Bells", which I believe was a hit for him, I know it was played a lot on the radio back in "73". You can look it up online for the live version of it as well, it's pretty cool.
the Demon was Pazuzu ,king of the wind demons , Regan sat in the chair in a trance with her hand up as that's the way the figure of Pazuzu did. Regans room was windy . Merrin had confronted Pazuzu before and it nearly killed him. Ellen Burnstyn , who played Regan's mom when slapped by her daughter , really hurt her back when she was pulled too hard by a cable attached to her. Her scream was real
The Exorcist is still the most disturbing and shocking horror film ever made. Even after Texas Chainsaw. Even after Alien and The Thing. Even after Saw. The trauma of The Exorcist still works so well because of the slow burn. We grow to really care about Chris and her daughter, Regan. So when Regan starts abusing her body and transforming into this monster, we feel it just like Chris.
turn this reaction on at 19:10 and you will think this is a full blown comedy. I said to myself.....those smiles will be permanently removed later, they have no idea.
When the detective was talking to Damien about how Burk DIED, why would you say, "How could anyone survive something like that?" It wouldn't have been said if you were actually paying attention. You should've already known that Burk's dead and that's why the detective was asking Damien questions about his death. Another reaction, where people are too interested in talking instead of knowing what they're watching.
1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱😱 2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always🤣 3. The spider-walk down the stairs was NOT in the original release. 4. The loud banging with the medical equipment is for dramatic effect. 5. Father Merin and the demon/Pazuzu had a previous encounter where he almost killed the father. Merin doesn't acknowledge the receipt of the note and tells Karras there's no need for analysis. 6. Chris MacNeil/Ellen Burstyn actually broke her coccyx when the demon makes her hard fall. That wince of pain is the real deal. 7. The first priest Karras admits his lack of faith to/Tom, was a real priest. 8. The demon doesn't kill Merrin. From the beginning we know he has a heart problem most likely brought on by the previous encounter. 9. Karras doesn't kill the demon. He does manage to draw it out of her and sacrificed himself for her. 10. Karras is confessing and asking for forgiveness for his loss of faith. 11. RIP Willian Freidkin😇
I was concerned about the addition of Ketty to my fantasy Bulgarian harem. Before her, there were 7 Bulgarian ladies in my harem, one for each day of the week: 1) Michelle; 2) Ellie; 3) Lia; 4) Viki; 5) Trixy; 6) Magy; 7) Laura. Seven beautiful ladies. Seven days of the week. Perfect. So, what was I to do with an eighth lady? Then, I had a stroke of genius: I don't have to limit the number of ladies to the number of days in a week. I can just bump the day up for the eighth lady: Monday = Michelle; Tuesday = Ellie; Wednesday = Lia; Thursday = Viki; Friday = Trixy; Saturday = Magy; Sunday = Laura; and then, the following Monday can be Ketty. Then we repeat, one day incremented: Tuesday = Michelle; Wednesday = Ellie; Thursday = Lia; Friday = Viki; Saturday = Trixy; Sunday = Magy; Monday = Laura; Tuesday = Ketty ... In fact, maybe, just maybe, I could accommodate 2 ladies a day. It just goes to show that with some creative thinking, all problems can be solved. Welcome aboard, Ketty. You are in my fantasies.
I'd like to think if I ever had a daughter that I would use Burke's voice question as her ringtone. It would 'ring' and I'd reply with before answering, she dented the car, didn't she?

& a woman behind my grandma vomitted all over my poor grandma!
This was not the movie for the four of you to watch. The crucifix scene was the Red Wedding of the early 1970s.
The greatest trick the devil ever pulled was convincing the world he didn’t exist.
Sounds like it was at it a while before getting it right. Also--"he"?
*At least now people can stop the rumors that Lia left the channel.*
True, although now people can’t stop asking about Viki
Lia is busy in university
The people in the office just though he nuts though and laughed at him
Eventually he came in one day and said, "right, I'm getting rid of this bloody book!
You can look it up online for the live version of it as well, it's pretty cool.
he's taking Nitroglycerine pills for his heart
Those pills suck I had to take for a short while
Saw this in the Theater and EVERYONE kept yelling DON,T OPEN THE BEDROOM DOOR!
the Demon was Pazuzu ,king of the wind demons , Regan sat in the chair in a trance with her hand up as that's the way the figure of Pazuzu did.
The demon is paxuxu, from ancient sumerian.the medicine the priest takes is nitro gyserin for his heart.
When the detective was talking to Damien about how Burk DIED, why would you say, "How could anyone survive something like that?" It wouldn't have been said if you were actually paying attention. You should've already known that Burk's dead and that's why the detective was asking Damien questions about his death. Another reaction, where people are too interested in talking instead of knowing what they're watching.
when Jesus exorcised a man he sent the demon into a group of pigs wich quickly drowned themselves
Which led to zombi pigs and the dreaded zombi pigs in blankets.
@@blairhaffly1777 womp, womp, womp...
LIA HAS FINALLY RETURNED!
1. I was 13 when I saw this in the theater with friends. What rating system they had at the time wasn't really followed that closely. By word of mouth, I was aware of the head spinning, vomiting and language but what freaked me the most were the demon flashes.😱😱
2. When the doctor is looking at Regan's skull x-ray and says, "Nothing in there" I always🤣
The "spoons for ice cream" line is funny too !😅
I was concerned about the addition of Ketty to my fantasy Bulgarian harem.
You should look into the true story behind the movie.
It's scarier than the movie
Father Merrin was taking nitroglycerin for chest pain.
Hello! Here I have some suggestions for later. 😉🎦
-PAY IT FORWARD (2000)
-FLUKE (1995)
-MY SISTER'S KEEPER (2009)
-AIR BUD (1997) I hope you watch at all of them. Greethings from Argentina!!!
You watched the director's cut. The theatrical version doesn't have the ''spider walk'' sequence or the conversation between the Fr Dyer and the detective at the end.
YES LIA IS BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sometimes yall miss the good parts cause of talking. Pay attention 😂😊
I recommend you watch "The Possession" from 2012 and "REC" from 2007 and "Don't knock twice" from 2016. These movies are very great horrors.
LIA IS FINALLY BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!
Pills are nitroglycerin/ nitrostat, for heart attack emergency.
The Halloween theme song is quite different from The Exorcist.
You girls will never look at Split Pea Soup the same way ever again.
Yall are very good to your dogs! I admire that!
Snuck into a Drive-In theater and watched this movie when it came out. I was 8 LOL...............🤣😂BTW the pills the priest kept taking are Nitroglycerin for his heart. There was at least 2 versions. When Regan comes down the stairs that means you are not watching the theatrical release. I think it is a special edition.
The Demon's name is Pazuzu. He is the Mesopotamian demon of the wind and storms. He brings drought, famine, and locusts.
A true masterpiece of terror, to be seen alone, not with four parrots who do not stop talking throughout the film.
luisalbertocall the ones watching by them selves are much more interesting
@@timothywait9457 No, these ladies are very interesting.
The Priest was giving him the “ last rites “
its a different song than Haloween. this is called Tubular Bells
Great to see you all back together, and WELCOME ketty, great to have you here as the new homie!.
Happy Halloween ladies and this movie ranked at #3 in the 100 scariest movie moments on Bravo
Director's cut vs Theatrical.
I have to say ... _Invasion of the Body Snatchers_ (1978)
"Is this like a real thing?"
*crickets*
LOL!
GOOD TO SEE LIA BACK!
Fun fact: this is based on a true posession.
Dont get too comfortable....in your bed.
I loved the "Opa".
The Exorcist and Halloween themes are completely different pieces. You can hear them both at this link that compares the two pieces. th-cam.com/video/u432XcORUkY/w-d-xo.htmlsi=76CQ0RAgP6Ezg_G4 Easy to mix them up.
There are prequels to the exorcist that tell the story of father Merrins first exorcism not quite as graphic but still not bad movies... Oh I'm making a big pot of pea soup interested? 😂
Yes, it can happen...
It's based on a true story !
I've seen this film around 167 times and it keeps getting funnier.
BJ,BJ,BJ😂
U can't steal that from beetle juice
@John_Locke_108
Sandworm proximity alert! 🚨
Good reaction. Fun. Thanks for sharing.
Also, loved the final chat you guys had. Funny about The Thing and the nightmare about it. Bless you.
You’re watching the special edition. Re released around 2000
Saint Joseph medal for protection.
Father Merrin was taking little nitroglycerin pills for his weakened heart, very common prescription.
Watch"exorcist, the beginning"is about the Africa incident..stellan Skarsgard plays young father merrim.
Oh my God! Lia is back! 😂❤🎉
Hellraiser from 1987 is a very good and strong horror movie to react.Think about it!
Only fishes Can forget
