      Andrew did great on this one. I'm trying to convince him to do another when he goes to the trade show next month. It's a lot of work to do.

    • @TFOTLITBOK_P1_7
      @TFOTLITBOK_P1_7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MobilityDirect I'm guessing the work is related to the trade show because the process of taking the scooter with him on the plane looked pretty straightforward to me.
      Just the correct tagging, notifications to airline staff, seems the only thing that deviated from flying without one.
      I can definitely see where knowing you'll have your machine as you disembark the plane would be a huge relief for many people. He highlighted that exceptionally well here. Something most people are too busy to do I might add 😆

    Not to be overly negative but as a veteran with an amputated leg I find that the TSA gives undue attention to disabled persons. I just returned from a trip 2 days ago. TSA in Atlanta detained me for over half an hour because it was inconvenient for them to process my manual wheelchair and a walker. Every time we travel which is frequently we are given undue attention as compared to non-disabled travelers. That said the airlines are VERY ACCOMMODATING!!! TSA you have a lot to learn!!! Disabled people are most likely NOT terrorists and more likely just tourists!

      Nice they have the right to travel alone there, here we have to bring a caregiver because it is the law here for every flight, that a disabled person múst be accompanied by a caregiver

    • @xerxespamplemousse6622
      @xerxespamplemousse6622 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      No kidding! We just traveled through Denver, and the TSA was very commanding but opaque in their orders to my partner. My partner also got the most intense and thorough inspection they'd ever gone through with TSA. What gives? Are the tubes of the scooter frame filled with explosives? Did TSA get some kind of hint that the scooter or my partner's braces were dangerous? It's all very silly and controlling. And as you say, the airlines have always been very accommodating, and are so nice to both of us.

    • @CMV314
      @CMV314 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@xerxespamplemousse6622 No it's not. As a fellow disabled person, I have no issue with the TSA being extremely thorough. That's their job.

    • @CMV314
      @CMV314 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I respect your opinion, but as a disabled passenger myself, I am fully aware that travelling with a wheelchair and walker will take more time to inspect. They have a job to do and just because we're disabled does not mean we're exempt from being subject to security measures like everyone else.

    Thank you Drew for showing us what happened when you flew with the scooter. I have one and I’d rather die than go through this. My 50 year old daughter is mentally handicapped. What she went through in the New
    Orleans airport in 2016 ruined her vacation. She was subjected to a very personal inspection (while in public) by a female TSA agent. I was appalled and she was embarrassed and in tears. We haven’t flown since. I can only imagine the difficulty/discrimination I would encounter now that I am using a scooter and perceived as vulnerable.

    Thank you so much for your videos. I'm in the UK but have gained so much knowledge from your clearcut, experience-based videos that are not the usual 'buy this'. As a young(ish) mum of 2 boys, we are srill a very active family and lots of videos for mobility aids are aimed at the elderly which doesn't cover my needs but, you are able to provide information that is so very inclusive of all ages for which I am incredibly grateful. Your honesty is a huge asset to your business - if I were based in the US you would be at the top of my list of preferred businesses to deal with.

    Thanks for showing us that experience. I have the golden buzzaround xl-hd. It comes apart in pieces. How would the crew take it to the baggage area on the plane? Disassembled? I would be afraid of damage to the vehicle. They wouldn’t be able to carry it in one piece. I like the collapsible basket. I went to a Dr appointment yesterday needing to use elevators. I found that the doors closed too fast for me to get my scooter inside. How do you handle that? You don’t have the arm extension to reach much beyond the scooter to hold open the door. You would think a Drs office would consider handicapped vehicles and have the elevators and automatic hallway doors stay open longer. I would either have to back in or back out of the elevator as there wasn’t much room to turn around in the elevator . Easy way to damage scooter getting caught in closing doors. There wasn’t always much room to maneuver a scooter around in exam areas. There is still. Long ways to go for accessibility for handicapped people.

    • @MobilityDirect
      @MobilityDirect  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Typically there isn't enough time to show the air line attendance. How to take the scooter apart. But if there is, I would always recommend showing them how to at least remove the seat and the batteries. This way it's a lot lighter for them to carry and easier to transport.

    thank you for the informative video. about me, I live in the Netherlands and am 70 years old. There is also a rule handicapped people must travel. A few remarks. you are younger than me and your arms are still strong. I travel with an ATTO mobility scooter, it's foldable like a trolley. we are not allowed to take it in the airplane. Of course, it has a removable battery and I took all the necessary papers with it. for the scooter, i have a protective cover. we get help and travel in the airport with a special vehicle. I did travel to Spain where everything was very good from and back to our big National Airport of Schiphol. sad to say but on Schiphol a lot went wrong. the attachment clips of the cover were broken and as we landed at 11.30 pm. the promised service was not available. no help from Schiphol, only from other passengers in the airport. I will never do it again. good luck to all other handicapped persons.

    Wow, thank you so much for putting the time in to make this video for using a mobility scooter in an airport for travel. I’ve been doing my research and came across your website and scooters. Looking for a travel friendly scooter I can take apart and put in car as well as one I can take to airport for travel. I guess I was under the impression I wouldn’t have to remove the battery, just concerned with carrying a purse, and possibly a carry on luggage plus battery it may be to much for me traveling by myself. I still plan on buying one from your company very soon, most likely tomorrow! Thank you again for caring so much for the disabled community as it’s not easy getting around like I used to before car accident caused severe injuries to both ankles over 3 yrs ago. ❤

      I have an electric wheelchair and I’ve gone flying with it many times. You stay seated in the chair and they will pat you down. It will be a person putting you down of your same gender, and they are very very polite and explain to you before they touch you exactly what they’re going to do. Not a big deal. But, I would get there early if you can. Sometimes it takes a while for them to find a TSA agent of the same gender as you.

    I have an ankle brace and when I flew Southwest they had wheelchairs with guides from checkin to the gate and also on destination they had wheelchairs by the gate. I had never even considered they would allow scooters. It was a snowbird destination so there were almost 10 wheelchairs. At the destination the guide had to push 2 chairs with people but managed. I was able to stand in the scanner and had to have my shoes on so they still took a while to swab my brace. So the scanners are not that complete.

      I’ll be buying the hard case through you next week though. I have no doubt it will arrive before the scooter which is a special order item at the DME suppliers up here.@@MobilityDirect

    This disclaimer or final note at the bottom of the TSA page is what's worrisome:
    "The final decision rests with the TSA officer on whether an item is allowed through the checkpoint"
    It leaves it to the discretion of the TSA officer. What if the TSA at your home base allows it, but coming back home, the TSA at the other end does not?

      Something to note. If you have TSA Precheck you do note have to remove your shoes, nor do you have to do the body scan machine. You walk through the metal detector.
      If you can walk short distances then walk through the metal detector to avoid the full body pat down.
      If you do not have PreCheck, I highly recommend you get it.
      TSA Precheck can make the TSA checkpoint process a breeze.

    Hey I'm trying to see I'm 6' 2 and I'm looking for a folding scooter that I could take to go grocery shopping in the. Back of my mother's vehicle because my regular scooter takes a bit of work to get it in and out

    Can you request help from the airline to the gate if you have carry-on luggage or would you need to check the scooter at the counter and use a wheelchair to the gate?

      Thanks for watching our video and commenting. Gate-checking your mobility scooter is our recommendation because you can remain on your scooter until boarding. There are still some things that you need to keep in mind as mentioned in the video but you can also review our blog post containing our experience with travelling a mobility scooter on an airplane here:
