Synergy is what gives PTX songs such high impact. They have a way of pairing up their voices so that the sound resonates even more and fools our brains into thinking there must be a choir behind them. It's the sonic version of standing in a hall of mirrors. I always say, talent can only get you so far in life. You also need the skills, training and good judgement to turn your talent into something. These guys are talented, but they're also well educated and disciplined in musical technique. And when it comes to the arrangements they have good taste and sensitivity, and a refreshing lack of ego. They strive to make the song itself the star of the show.
I love it. It's so intricate and full...yet there's only five people! I think it was this one ( if not, it was White Winter Hymnal) where they went hiking to where they thought a waterfall was, lugging a generator and equipment, couldn't find the waterfall, got tired of hefting all the stuff thru the woods so settled in some nice scenery, dug a hole for Scott to stand in ( cuz he's quite a bit taller than Avi) and got on with the filming. Thanks for this, Sean. Hope you have a wonderful holiday season!!
I'm pretty sure they edited out a breath sound or two and ran multiple takes together during those long runs for the studio version. He breathes at fairly obvious points in live performances. His breath control is still impressive.
This is where Mitch breathes thru his pores apparently! There was a live version last year from Christmas Under The Stars, but the video got taken down. You can see it on other reactors channels like Tea Time With Travis or Patrol Gaming (it's worth it) Thanks for the reaction & Merry Christmas!
Vibrant, you said. That’s the best word yet to describe their Christmas catalogue. What continues to amaze me is that whenever they harmonize or layer or whatever, you can still pick out the individual voices and follow what that singer is doing. I find that so rarely in music where more than one or two singers are singing. You can always pick Mitch’s voice out, and Avi’s or Matt’s, and the same with Kirstin and Scott. And Kevin, when he’s not busy beatboxing. So individual yet always together. It’s fascinating. I always love your reactions, well done. Merry Christmas and peace from Ohio …
PTX for me IS Christmas! This song I often wonder…when does Mitch breathe!!!! Thank you for your PTX Christmas reactions! I am truly enjoying them. If it’s not too late, I would love to suggest God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen…it’s FANTASTIC! Merry Christmas!
This is a very early PTX Christmas video. It's solid proof that Mitch is an alien because he doesn't breathe during this song! I'd like to request PTX When the Party's Over for January 1st. I've been vibing on that lately and it's perfect for the end of the holiday season. It's one of their written during covid. Thanks, Sean.
This is performed in choral Madrigal style! Massive choir nerds that they are! Listen to a recent live performance of this from their current Christmas concert! 💖
I enjoyed your reaction to this beautiful Pentatonix video. Thank you. I listen to Pentatonix music, including Christmas music, all year round. There has only been one member change in their 11-year history. Avi, original bass, left the band for personal and family reasons in 2017. The fast pace of tour, recording, appearances, etc became too much for Avi and his mother was diagnosed with cancer and he could not be with her as much as he wanted. He also missed being able to escape into nature. Matt has been their bass since October 2017.
I also prefer Pentatonix Christmas music personally, over other Christmas music. This one is beautifully mind boggling to me, listening to all the runs and layering that each member is performing especially at the speed of this particular song. Thank you for another great reaction, look forward to the next.
This was off their very first Christmas EP. There were six songs. Each member and Ben Bram chose a song to do and this was Mitch's pick. People say this was close to, if not exactly, in the madrigal style... the layers of singing you're referring to. I'm not a musician and cannot tell you what would make it more or less a madrigal 🤷🏻♀️ but that's basically what they were doing.
I loved that you loved this so much! What a great ending to the Christmas season. I hope you had a fantastic day. Thank you so much for digging into PTX.
Hearing this live is insane! I was blessed enough to see them in concert a few weeks ago and they did this song. This song has been one of my favorites since the girls' ensemble I was in during middle school sang it (around the time the trio was being born, so not their arrangement, obviously, lol!).
Hey Sean, Merry Christmas! LOVE your reactions to Pentatonix. Before I discovered PTX, I didn't really have a _favorite_ group. I mean, there are so many great groups and genres to choose from, singling one out just didn't make sense to me. Until I discovered them. You're right--individually they are amazing but when you bring them all together, it's like they turn into the Justice League or something. They _epitomize_ the definition of synergy--the perfect example of the sum greater than the parts. Separately, they're Mitch, Scott, Kirstin, Kevin and Avi (or Matt). But when they combine and do what they are passionate about, what they worked hard for, what they were BORN to do... they *become* Pentatonix. And this is the result. Absolute perfection.
Your face was perfect at the end! 😁 I hope you get to their new album where they did some originals and some cover collabs with prominent artists from other countries using popular Christmas songs and adding that country’s styles and even language. It’s a brilliant group of songs. They did use instruments in some of the songs when needed for a particular depth or quality of sound.
Loved this and all your PTX Christmas reactions. Next I would like to hear your thoughts on some of their originals. My choice to start would be Coffee in Bed, but anything off The Lucky Ones is good! Have a very Happy New Year!
I have literally gone through your entire videos on TH-cam as far as reactions and not once did I see a scarlxrd reaction ad you are a rapper / musician so here is the best ones to look for 1. Heart attack 2. Let the wxrld burn 3. Apxcalypse 4. Miss me
If you haven't seen it yet (would help to have a playlist of your ptx reactions), but you should check out White Winter Hymnal, it is soooo good! Also their Nicki Minaj cover of 'Starships' I think you would enjoy, or 'Come Along'
One of my favorite moments come at 3:24. They've been switching between a major and a minor key, and at this point it's Kirstie's note that makes the modulation to a minor key. It's the last thing she sings--she and Kevin drop out there and the rest is all counterpoint from Mitch, Avi, and Scott. Kirstin's last note is key (pun intended).
If you're not familiar with or only know who Johann Sebastian Bach was, this arrangement is very much a fugue in the style of Bach. Listen to his Toccata and Fugue in d minor. You'll recognize the beginning, but many don't go beyond the first thirty seconds. Somewhere around two and a half minutes in (depending on the tempo used), the fugue starts. When you hear that you'll understand what I mean. To put it in basic terms, and without insulting your intelligence, "Row, Row, Row Your Boat," is a fugue in the most basic sense. That's your classical music theory lesson for today. 😂
Reading the definition for fugue, I could never really get a clear grasp on what was meant, but listening to PTX has given me relatable examples, I think. This and the end of Imagine. Do those both classify as fugues? Serious question

This was after walking 4 miles in the woods, dragging a generator, lost, looking for a waterfall that they never found. Extremely impressive ❤
Mitch and Avi voice always mixed very well together
Very well!
Its so BRIGHT!!!
My favorite version of this song!!! It is always fun trying to see people try to figure out when Mitch breathes! A lot going on in this version.

An absolutely brilliant description of who Pentatonix are, what they do, and how they do it.
I love it. It's so intricate and full...yet there's only five people! This one.
You are correct, it was this video! 😁
This was the one.
Earlier this month, I checked the iTunes top 100 holiday album downloads and of the top 100, 9 of them were Pentatonix albums.
Haha not surprised!
Can we talk about Mitches breath control
It’s insane 🔥
I'm pretty sure they edited out a breath sound or two and ran multiple takes together during those long runs for the studio version. He breathes at fairly obvious points in live performances. His breath control is still impressive.

BREATH MITCH!!!! LOL that was great!! It doesn't matter which way you go along their timeline....Vocal supremacy reigns!! Just wow!
Breath control. Incredible.

Merry Christmas!
And here is the question:When did Mitch take breath in his solo at 2:12?😁
This is a very early PTX Christmas video. It's solid proof that Mitch is an alien because he doesn't breathe during this song! I'd like to request PTX When the Party's Over for January 1st. Breathe, Mitch, breathe!

This is my favorite Christmas song EVER!!! Its written so wonderfully… I’m obsessed😆❤❤❤ PTX Christmas Music is the best….. no doubt!!!👍🤟❤️
I have watched this older video many times and still cannot see when Mitch breathes!
Love PTX their depth is amazing
Commonly referred to as the ‘when does Mitch breathe’ song!
For real haha
This was off their very first Christmas EP. There were six songs. Each member and Ben Bram chose a song to do and this was Mitch's pick.

They can stand up as individuals to solo while the others retract, and they can all blend when they choose to.
Thank U, great reaction! 🎅 🎄
Thank you! Happy holidays 🎄
Love watching the shock, awe and disbelief morph into pleasure, appreciation and pure joy. Another great reaction. They get you every time.
Thanks again!
I loved that you loved this so much! What a great ending to the Christmas season. I hope you had a fantastic day. Thank you so much for digging into PTX.
Thank you! You too!
Merry Christmas! This is my absolute favorite Christmas song, and the one that started my love affair with PTX, about 10 years ago.
Love how you give us your explanation-some reactors really don't know what your talking about-but you do! Love your reaction! new sub!
Thank you so much 😀

I love the madrigal style they gave this - it puts a whole different spin on it.
MERRY CHRISTMAS SEAN!! Now that was a face 🤭 Thank you once again for a great reaction.
They are EPIC!
Was fantastic 👏 can't express how good they are.
So good!
I love it! I enjoy the PTX Christmas every year! Thank you for reacting! Christmas Day ..Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

❤ perfectly said. Love the justice league
Master class!!!
Great reaction Sean. I have all PTX albums and all I play at Christmas is PTX.
Please try The first Noel

Have a very Happy New Year!
Agreed! Happy Now and Coffee In Bed are great ones to introduce their original music.
I have literally gone through your entire videos on TH-cam as far as reactions and not once did I see a scarlxrd reaction ad you are a rapper / musician so here is the best ones to look for
1. Heart attack
2. Let the wxrld burn
3. Apxcalypse
4. Miss me
This is one of my absolute favorites! Wishing you a Merry Christmas and a happy new year as well.
Same to you!
Arrangement of layering is unmatched.
💯
Pure talent!
Great analysis of the song, but FYI...this was done nearly 10 YEARS AGO !!
Proving that PTX was magical from the beginning. Love them so much!
Thank you and wow that’s longer than I thought 🤘
Great reaction as always. Hope you had a great Christmas Sean
Thanks! You too!
You need to react to Avi Kaplans solo stuff would recommend Change on the rise
If you haven't seen it yet (would help to have a playlist of your ptx reactions), but you should check out White Winter Hymnal, it is soooo good! Also their Nicki Minaj cover of 'Starships' I think you would enjoy, or 'Come Along'
Nice reaction!! You said it the really breathe new life into the old Christmas carols. I also prefer PTX over the originals.
Happy holidays!
It always amazes me that there are only five of them.
Same!
Happy Holidays 🎉❤🦌🦌🦌🎅🏽🎄
Happy holidays!
Mitch should take up diving as a hobby because clearly he doesn't need to breathe.
Hahah for real!
Even though Avi comes on strong, just concentrating on what Kirstie is doing makes one realize just how important her role is.
One of my favorite moments come at 3:24. They've been switching between a major and a minor key, and at this point it's Kirstie's note that makes the modulation to a minor key. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
They were without funding in the early years while they were getting their TH-cam channel started!
This made me want to re-watch pitsh Perfect lol🔥🔥
Listen to Defying Gravity
If you're not familiar with or only know who Johann Sebastian Bach was, this arrangement is very much a fugue in the style of Bach. Listen to his Toccata and Fugue in d minor. Oh, and if you've never heard this Toccata, stop it after the initial recognizable measures and do a reaction video for it.
Reading the definition for fugue, I could never really get a clear grasp on what was meant, but listening to PTX has given me relatable examples, I think. This and the end of Imagine. Do those both classify as fugues? Serious question
Sounds like you just became a pentaholic. 😊
Breathe Mitch!
Do they ever breathe!?!
Could you react to Palaye Royale-Fever Dream?
