No puedo hablar por la Ciudad de México, pero soy irlandés y vivo en Guadalajara, y nunca he tenido problemas aquí.
México tiene una mala reputación principalmente debido a su representación negativa en las películas estadounidenses.
Pero los mexicanos son muy amables, el clima es fantástico, la comida es excelente y es barato y fácil de recorrer en Uber.
Mi única queja es que a veces los vecinos ponen su música demasiado fuerte. Eso no sucedería en Europa, y si sucediera, la policía lo detendría.
De lo contrario, estoy muy feliz de llamar a México mi hogar.
Totalmente de acuerdo, yo como mexicana también me molesta que vecinos pongan musica fuerte toda la noche y por lo regular la policía no les dice nada mientras que no estén haciendo problemas... y que bueno que te gusta mi país jeje

Mucha de la violencia que se vive en México es causada por el apetito voraz de los drogadictos en Estados Unidos.Mientras las drogas no se legalicen, la violecia aquí no va a disminuir.
Cualquier pais tendría los niveles de violencia que tiene México si fuera vecino de los Estados Unidos.Sobrectodo si es un país subdesarrollado.Imaginen que en lugar de México, Estados Unidos tuviera como vecino a cualquier pais sudamericano, o a La India, o a cualquier pais africano, etc.¿Honestamente, creen que esos países serian menos violentos que México?
Por otro lado, un gran porcentaje de es aviolencia solamente la sufren personas que se meten en esos "negocios".
No solo por las películas en estados unidos sino por los medios de todo el mundo que están viendo cómo se le está tratando a los centroamericanos.
En México los que manejan el país son los narcos o eso es cuestión de películas?..

Yo creo que México es un país hermosísimo pero también creo que la inseguridad es una problema real. A Juan (el ex presentador de Easy Spanish) también le ha pasado una vez que le quitaron el equipo. También he visto muchos documentarios sobre las bandas criminales y carteles que operan en México y los asesinos contratados que andan matando por dinero. Por supuesto, hay que visitar el país pero también hay que andar con cuidado y precaución.

Tengo 27 años y siempre he vivido en la CDMX y nunca me ha pasado absolutamente nada. He salido de bares a las 4 de la mañana y no me ha pasado nada. Creo que cualquier ciudad del mundo es peligrosa. Y el tema de los carteles es peligrosos solo en muy pequeñas áreas del país. México es un país inmensamente grande, prácticamente del mismo tamaño que toda Europa central, por lo que reducirlo a carteles y asesinos es bastante ignorante

He ido a México varias veces, a la CDMX y más que 5 estados y nunca he sentido en peligro. Sé que necesito tener cuidado en el bus y el metro etc pero aparte de eso toda la gente es muy amable y tranquila y siempre me han ayudado.
La inseguridad no se siente, se padece.

What a crazy coincidence! Today is the last day I can decide if I want to study in Mexico for half a year and I was indeed a bit worried about the safety. This video came right on time.
Dont hesitate on coming. The country is much bigger and safer than not. As every country, it does has its pockets where crime is considerably high, however there is no need to go there or visit, as there us plenty of room and very safe. Some of my countrymen where very pessimistic in their point of view. Ive lived in Chicago and let me tell you that I felt more insecure around deep south Chicago that walking around Mexico City. I even witnessed a shooting in front of me! (I love Chi, btw).
We are still the 6th most visited country in the world, despite all mass media portraying us like the worst, on a daily basis. But thats just the rethoric theyve been assigned to show so that every move aimed against our country is "well justified".

I've been twice for short trips and didn't feel too safe to be honest. If you don't look Latinx, and especially if you're a woman, you'll obviously stand out as a target so I'd advise getting a local friend to travel with you until you're comfortable and know the way around. I actually got into a dangerous situation one day, but fortunately I had a Peruvian friend with me, so we were able to solve it with much pleading on his part. Another time we were waiting for an Uber and we noticed we were being watched, and then followed as we walked away - well, fortunately our Uber arrived before anything happened. If you're going to a university or an expat-heavy area I imagine it would be a safe experience in general
Just be careful, it seems most horror stories are from gringos that went out drinking and ran into horrible robberies etc. Many of the interviewees say they just don’t go out much in the night and it sounds like a good advice. I survived years without getting mugged in Colombia and it was probably thanks to never being drunk outside. And make sure to stay in barrios tranquilos 🙂

No podemos negar que México es un lugar inseguro... pero la inseguridad que se vive en México es demasiado relativa y depende de muchos factores. Es difícil de explicar esto a personas que siempre han vivido en países "desarrollados".

Although I've never experienced a situation of this type in Mexico (in fact, the only two occasions in which I've been robbed and I've witnessed a robbery have not been in my country, but in cities considered perfectly safe), I couldn't deny that it's an unsafe country. Even though the perception of insecurity is both highly subjective and empirical. I don't live in CDMX, but in Puebla, but I've been to this city many times since I was very young and I can say that the only place where I've felt truly unsafe has been in the city's subway. I consider that Mexico City can be perfectly safe for foreigners by taking certain precautions.
My recommendations are very similar to those of the people in the video. Always try to be very attentive to what's happening around you, try not to get too distracted, move in a private transport service (Uber, DiDi, Cabify, InDriver) instead of taking a city taxi as sometimes drivers tend to scam foreigners with fares. I'd also recommend that when going out on the street don't carry things that you consider to be of great value (whether monetary or sentimental) but only with the essentials so that you not only travel the city more calmly but also lighter. And finally, don't rule out the idea of contacting a local from the place you will be visiting months or weeks before your trip; being accompanied by a local that inspires confidence will make you feel safer, in addition to knowing the city accompanied by someone who lives there day-to-day will make your experience much more enriching.
Travel without fear, but with caution and above all, enjoy very much that Mexico has a lot to offer you.

As an American who has traveled all over the United states and some parts of Mexico i think its silly that many Americans think mexico is so unsafe. Most of our large cities in the United states have areas that are very unsafe. Driveby shootings every day and so so much gun violence everyday in the U.S.A. in many areas. I have heard many shootings in many cities in my country. If mexico is an unsafe country so is the USA but i think both its very dependent what area you are in some are much safer than others but many other countries are far safer than both mexico and the USA. I rarely feel unsafe in either country even with the violence that exsists in both.

When anyone tells me "It is dangerous in Mexico" I tell them I have been to Mexico many times and to many different places and not once did I have a problem. I then point out there is more crime in Chicago over one weekend than there is in all of Mexico. Then throw in New York, San Francisco, Washington DC., and a number of other cities and compared to them Mexico is very safe. Most of the murders you read about in Mexico is between drug cartels and every now and then someone gets killed that was in the the wrong place at the wrong time.

Soy canadiense y fui a visitar la Ciudad de México. Es una ciudad magnífica llena de cultura. La comida es excelente. Me quedé 11 días y no tuve ningún problema, pero no salía por la noche.
Mexico is beautiful and I can appreciate the mountains and simple life that Chicago cannot.
I’m on a 3 month vacation in Puebla and the people we stay with had to pay the Cartel to help us with higher issues of utilities not working. So yes...it’s sometimes dangerous in Mexico, but danger is in all countries 🤷♀️

Nice video, but I’m an high intermediate level, and this is intermediate to advanced because of the speed of talking and the vocabulary. It was fine for me but too fast and advanced for a beginner.
Hola, soy de México, Tijuana para ser exactos. Y pues desde siempre yo ando sola en transportes( antes para ir a la escuela y ahora para trabajar) llevo mi celular en la mano y todo, y jamas me han asaltado o algo, por su puesto como en cualquier ciudad hay zonas que no son seguras (mas donde estan los bares y clubes nocturnos) pero, me da risa que las personas piensen que ya por salir a la calle te van a balancear o algo. Yo pienso que se podria decir que aqui en Tijuana la vida nocturna es peligrosa, si te gusta andar en bares y todo borracho en la calle a las 3 o 4 de la mañana pues, puede que si te asalten, o las personas que se hacen pasar por por taxistas para tratar de aprovecharse de ti. En ese aspecto siento que es inseguro pero, para andar en tu rutina diaria del dia pues no.
Ademas pues si hay algunos estados que son muy peligrosos donde si te pueden balacear o robar a pleno día, me refiero aquellos donde hay mas población de narcos y esas cosas. Esos personas si no tienen respecto de nada y toman lo que quieren como si fuera de ellos.
Yo sí me siento inseguro en México, podrán decir muchas cosas que si la gente amable, y que si "sólo hay que tener cuidado" y bla bla, pero después de vivir un poco en un lugar seguro como Berlín, te das cuenta de TODO lo mal que estamos en el país, es desgastante vivir de ese modo.
Berlín 🤔 vivo aquí y está bien pero tampoco es el ejemplo de securidad en Alemania o Europa.
Yo me siento algo inseguro. Estoy acostumbrado a voltear cuando voy por la calle a ver si alguien no me está siguiendo y más por la noche (nunca se sabe). Igual depende de cada estado y zona en la que vivas porque también hay lugares muy seguros. Es triste pero siempre hay que andar con precaución.
Es un hábito, yo soy de Aguascalientes, un estado relativamente más seguro, y siempre ando de día y por lugares que conozco. Pero aún asi, siempre me voy fijando quién está cerca de mi.

Hace casi 30 años que vivo en Aguascalientes y he viajado al DF y al sur del pais y al norte y NUNCA PERO NUNCA me han robado ni asaltado ni nada. No sé si soy suertuda o que cosa. Pero igual mi familia que vive aquí jamás nos ha sucedido nada.

This is a tiny bit too fast for me as a Spanish learner. I am listening and reading the Spanish subtitles but I really want you to slow down a tiny bit only. For what it is worth I am not a big fan of "Slow Spanish" because it feels too slow. My arguement for only slowing it down a tiny bit, is that when I travel in Mexico, Mexicans always slow down a little bit for me anyway, to be helpful as soon as they realize I am learning (which they realize in 2 seconds). Meanwhile I love this site. You guys do great, interesting interviews and I love Mexico City. Thank you for all the hard work that you do with these videos!
I also want to say that Mexico City gets a bad rap. I have been there 4 times and as a tourist I have never felt unsafe and I am often walking alone and I am female. I think it is a world class city and I love and miss it. I realize that there must be dangerous areas but I would argue that is true for many cities everywhere and tourist tend to stay in the areas that suit them and never go to those other areas.

Estoy pensando en viajar a Ciudad de México el año que viene y me gustaría saber dónde puedo dirigirme para que me recomienden por donde puedo moverme, que puedo visitar, qué zonas puedo visitar para probar esa comida espectacular que tienen, con la mayor de las seguridades, ya que este es un aspecto que tengo muy presente.
La ciudad de mexico es muy seguro, Yo te recomendaría es moverte preguntando a locales, no hay gente mas amables y serviciales que los mexicanos.
When I went to Mexico, I feel I did get a lot of looks. It seemed like we (my friends and I) were the only foreigners in the area. But, it's hard to say. When you're in a new country, you're more self conscious and aware of your surroundings. However, it definitely did feel like we were getting tons of looks.
We were in Playa del Carmen, but we weren't in the tourist zones. We were quite far away from it, actually. We even walked down some trail that took us to a back road outside the city with no sidewalk, and we got sort of lost. No one bothered us aside from some garbage men yelling and sticking their tongues at us (lol). But, it was in the middle of the day. When we walked back though, it was pitch dark, and some guy did steer his car into us. He wasn't trying to kill us; he was playing chicken with us. Me and my friend had to jump off the road into the trees (so, he COULD have killed us if he wanted to). Later we got stopped by the police and they searched us, but despite what some people said would happen, they didn't steal any cash from us or take our phones. They just frisked us and let us go, but for some reason they didn't touch the girls. Just us guys.
A few days later we went to a local bar. Everything was going well, but then the cops sort of raided the place. Like 20 of them flew in with some pretty heavy weapons. They came in, walked around, secured the place, searched some people, then just left. The Mexicans didn't even seem remotely bothered by it (aside from the guys they may have been looking for). But again, the cops just left us alone. I don't doubt some crooked cops target tourists, but overall, even when the cops did interact with us, they didn't do anything bad to us.
We did get hustled by some street performers, though. But that was actually on Fifth Avenue in the tourist zone. That was by far the closest we came to actually getting into a fight with anyone, because they picked up my friend and threw him around, stole his phone and took photos of him, then demanded a shit ton of money. I was like whatever, but they wanted like $50-$100 USD. I told them to delete the photos themselves and leave us be. They did, but they were really aggressive about it. If we weren't on Fifth, I imagine that could have gone either way.
Then there was a gate guard where we had to walk past to get home. He was a lunatic. He just randomly started talking about how he stabbed someone in America and they deported him back to Mexico and how he hated Mexico etc.. But, we get that shit here all the time, too. lol
But other than that, most people were really nice. No one where we were really spoke any English, so I tried my best to speak Spanish, and most of them were patient with me and did try to help me out, but overall I tried not to bother them on the street. We did meet a couple guys there, though. They were great. We drank beers with them, they showed us some good spots, etc. Really nice guys. Never asked for anything. They were just happy to meet us and likewise.
Overall, more dangerous than home. So, it's as the people say. Anything can happen anywhere, but you ought to be a little more careful. Pay attention to where you're going and, judging by my experiences, don't wander outside the tourist zones at night unless you're with a group.

Creo que Latinoamérica en general es inseguro, como recomendación sería de estar prestando atención en la calle a la gente de alrededor, no mostrar el celular en la calle y nada más, en cualquier parte del mundo te pueden robar si andas demasiado confiado.

I really want to travel in Latin America but this is the only thing that prevents me from it.
Just keep your guard up, avoid dogy areas, do not do silly thing, then you will be okay. It is full of foreign tourists there, and is beautiful, nice people, amazing food, give it a try!
If this is listed as a beginner video the hosts need to speak slower. I think.
That's been my biggest gripe. The other easy language hosts speak at a slow, but still natural pace. These hosts are super fast
I agree that, for me as a beginner, it's a little too fast to progress it. However I do think this video is a good exercise for getting used to the tempo of speaking. Personally I pause the video a lot and read the subtitle first. after I finish the video I play the video second time without any pause and found myself understanding it much better already.
I like this you tube canal Español con Juan he is funny and repeats phrase over and over within the story. Long and short content. I also use Spanish with Paul he has free you tube lessons but I have purchased his larger program and really like it. Poco a poco.

Spanish: En realidad ellos hablan normal y de forma natural.... creo que a los que queremos aprender ingles también nos pasa lo mismo, en realidad si tu estas buscando hablar como ellos cre que tendrás que acostumbrarte a ese ritmo porque en realidad en español así hablamos . Y de echo hasta hablamos mas rápido esto pasa cuando contamos algún chiste o se nos ocurre algo gracioso y lo decimos o simplemente para hacerle un recordatorio rápido a la otra persona entre otros temas.

Creo que, en muchos países, los turistas son más propensos a ser víctimas de delitos que los locales. Eso es porque, cuando somos turistas tendemos a distraernos, llevamos nuestros celulares en nuestras manos, y no sabemos qué áreas y situaciones son menos seguras. Por ejemplo, mi suegro fue asaltado a punta de cuchillo en Nueva York, en un ascensor de un hotel. Y mi billetera fue robada de mi bolso en un metro de París abarrotado. Las personas que son de países muy seguros están en mayor riesgo, ya que están acostumbrados a llevar sus carteras en bolsillos de fácil acceso, y pueden llevar mucho dinero en efectivo. He aprendido a mantener un poco de dinero accesible, y ocultar el resto, junto con mi pasaporte.
Lo que más me preocupa de México es conducir, con la posibilidad de encontrarme con policías falsos o policías reales que quieren llevarse mi dinero o mis posesiones.

Great 👍 video! Muy interesante el video. Yo soy de CDMX, pero vivo en Los Angeles, CA. CDMX es una gran ciudad y una ciudad con mucho que ver muy interesante. Recomiendo visitar Xochimilco, Chapultepec, La Villa entre otros lugares. La comida es deliciosa mucha variedad para comer 🍽. No recomiendo usar los Peseros que son las combis y microbuses ni el Metro son muy peligrosos. Hay muchos asaltos en los Peseros y accidentes ya que los choferes son muy irresponsables para manejar. En el caso del Metro 🚇 se llena demasiado y a todas horas. Además de eso el Sistema Metro 🚇 de CDMX es muy racista y no amigable con las personas Trans ⚧ y Heterosexuales. El Metro 🚇 tiene vagones exclusivos de un sólo género una tontería ya que segregan por género a los usuarios. Yo les llamo “Vagones de Lesbianas a los vagones de Mujeres y vagones de Gays a los vagones de Hombres”, ya que eso es lo que son. CDMX no tiene un Metro 🚇 bueno y menos se presta para encontrar un Amor 🧡 al menos que seas Homosexual. Yo recomiendo usar Uber es muy económico en CDMX y muy seguro incluso más seguro que los taxis 🚕. El Metrobús es mejor opción que el Metro 🚇. La línea 4 es súper segura su costo es de 30 pesos y siempre tiene un policía 👮🏻♀️ 👮🏻♂️ abordo del autobús 🚌. La línea 7 es segura tiene autobuses de doble piso. Todas las otras líneas tiene un costo de 6 pesos algo no muy positivo la verdad. Lineas 2 y 3 ya no son tan seguras recomiendo esta atentos alrededor. Cuando yo viaje en la línea 2 casi me empujan para entrar y en la línea 3 una pasajera me estaba acosando que me fuera para otro lugar y sentí que podría tener cómplices. Yo si recomiendo se animen a visitar CDMX y el Estado de México y si pueden levántense temprano y empiecen su día temprano ya que casi no llueve durante la mañana lo más llueve 🌧 en las tarde y noches si pueden llegar a casa 🏠 o hotel 🏨 como a las 3 o 4 pm por si llueve 🌧. Tomen en cuenta que CDMX es muy alto la altura es de 7,382 pies sobre el nivel Del Mar 🌊. Visiten CDMX es una gran ciudad de las más importantes y mejores para visitar en Mexico 🇲🇽.
Ojalá Latino América llegue un día a alcanzar los indicadores necesarios para moverse por allí sin miedo. Entonces recibiréis una avalancha de visitantes cada año. Fuerza!

I live in San Francisco, & we have good areas & dangerous areas. Just like Mexico. And not because of Mexicans or other Hispanic people. Just, income. I’ve spent 6 months in Mexico, not too long, but I felt safe always; Oaxaca, Puebla, plus a little Mexico City. (Truly a joy and a privilege.) No matter where you travel, you must be careful. Don’t go crazy about visiting places the locals tell you not to visit because they know what they are talking about and are helping you more than you know. My time in Mexico was wonderful, and if I were not looking after a sick elderly man currently, Mexico is where I would be currently. Plus, their accent is so easy to understand.
I think because of the cartels and all the movies about them, people think all of Mexico is cartel country - which is of course, wrong. There is a similar stereotype about the U.S. I've lived here for most of my 50 years and never had a gun pulled on me or seen someone shooting one in public. I hope to visit Mexico someday! Beautiful people, amazing history, wonderful culture, music, and cuisine!

Al menos aquí en mexico, la x se pronuncia como "j". Esto proviene de las lenguas indígenas que tenían muchas x, como las palabras "Xochimilco", "Xóchitl" etc. Ahora, obviamente si decimos algo en inglés, va a ser como suena la x (mecsico) no se si me expliqué.
Well, I believe in that all of world are unsafe places. In fact, There is no safe for me because I am deaf and speak with sign languages. I am from USA. I have been in Mexico few times and not happening for me. I had a blast there. I love Mexico because people were very treat and friendly to me. Also, I love eating champ Mexican food for especially in tacos and enchiladas and beautiful cultures. I know I had to be careful when I traveled ( only in Mexico but some other foreigns are dangerous too! ) I heard Africa is the worst dangerous than Mexico. That's scary but I need to precautions before I visit there. That's the way I learned a lot from Mexico and I appreciated it. Thanks for sharing this about precautions in Mexico. 👍

He visitado Monterrey muchas veces y es una de mis ciudades favoritas. O sea, vivo en la ciudad más peligrosa en mi país. Tal vez no tengo nada con lo que pueda compararlo. México es un país muy incomprendido, en mi opinión. :)
