The graphics blew me away when i was a kid. I would record the cinematics on a VHS tape. The fact that you could get out of your car and sit down on a random chair was revolutionary.
This game literally pushed the boundaries on the PS1, Especially the map size. Pretty impressive for the PS1
It truly did. Ingame cutscenes somewhat. Then came gta3 on ps2 massive leap forward. We will never see such leaps in games
Modern gta copied the concept of driver.

This game is a bit like Gta San Andreas.

PURE BREED CHEESEHEAD I don’t think that’s the case pal, have you ever heard of devs and companies having to use the technology they had at the time?, pure fact for granted though this was pretty state of the art and ahead of its time for graphics during its own era of course people will look back on these masterpieces and fantastic games now and laugh and blindly criticize because quite honestly it’s sad today’s era of gamers mainly rely on and judge a game by its graphics and never gameplay it’s quite shallow and ignorant you’d have to admit man but that’s just how it is for most people nowadays

+Dom2K When i was little i always had to skip the cutscenes because they were too violent. But i'd always see the start of the shootout from the first cutscene and I assumed that the guy with the two sawn offs was Jones and the other guy was Tanner. Now I know the characters and their motifs .

Driver 2 is the reason why we have GTAIII.
...And it did IMHO. I preferred more the top-down 2.5D than that akward 3D era.
i never really liked the top down view i thought it was complete shit then GTA3 came out and i was like thank god for third person view ;)

I love Driver 2.... It belongs to my chilhood. I only used to explore the whole city and run from the police, but when I decided to pass the game and start to do the missions I really loved it and the story got me. I was like 11 or 12 years old and I am proud of myself that I could end it!

Driver 2 has a special place in my heart. My most played game on my very first console.

This game was epic back then, this video brought me good memories from that time. This game was like GTA V in 2013, looked so real.
The cutscene at the beginning is a masterpiece of cinematography, great scene and dialogue with Pink Lenny saying 'You shoulda seen the look on this guys face'
He has a shotgun with unlimited ammo in that bar.
Did the end cutscene prove Caine & Vasquez weren't really enemies at all but wanted Lenny for their own reasons? Because I still don't understand their handshake at the end of the game unless they decided to make peace.

Not sure why this popped up on recommendation. But I’m sure glad it did. Brought back memories of me playing this while my 1 year old son would watch me play. He’ll be 22 this year. SHEESH I’m old 🤣😂😅
I remember playing this in 2004. As a kid I was clueless on what to do in this game so I would just drive around. At one point I got stuck in the ally when you start 😂😂
I remember playing this game endlessly, whether it was missions or tying to find secret locations, the was just so much to do!

I love Driver 2. Some people may disagree with me, but I honestly find Driver 2 to be the best game in the series. My personal favourite. Although I personally didn't find it to be hard as hell, apart from the last level, where you chase Lenny.
Reply to Optigaming8: Not much difference. In D2, you can get out of a car, providing that you don't have a tail. If you have a tail, and your car wrecks, that's it, game over. But honestly, if you're wanting to buy one or the other, I'd recommend Driver 2. Apart from Driver San Francisco, I've owned them all, and I've played them all, and I find D2 to be the best
DrummerFromFife I couldn't get past a certain level, it's in Cuba and you drive literally the entire length of the map, and I Really F..kin tried to finish but couldn't.After a while I thought"F..k it"and played summat else, shortly afterwards PS2 came out and that was that.It iz a great game I'm currently playing Driver 3 and lovin it
Chase The Gun Man and Find The Clue were two of the toughest missions. The final mission was easy as long as you had the invincibility cheat and knew how to turn that final corner without losing the helicopter.
DrummerFromFife I have so many memories playing Driver 2. When I was little I would just mindlessly drive around and smash up my car then go and steal someone else’s. I was so happy when I got it again for epsxe.
Favorite
Outside of the final level, Find The Clue and Chase The Gun Man are two of the more difficult levels in the game. Vegas is sort of a breeze besides Stake Out where even if you get to the airport, you've got to do it without a police tail.

I got to the 3rd from last mission and got stuck and never beat it. Im going to dig it up and beat it. I really wish i had beat it as a child though.

When the police was chasing me, i always tried to get out the car. Sometimes it worked and the police tried to run me over. Brilliant game, childhood!

This game was awesome. It had a great storyline which made it interesting. Not taking anything away from the first one, which had it's charm too when it came out.

When i was a kid i tried everything to go to the train station in the game, i was obssessed with it, but never got in to it, just cause i saw it on the intro of the game. It took my some solid years to realise that, good times...

French connection vibes on the first mission! Had this on the ps1 and was one of my childhood favourites! Pre GTA3. This was the era of extremely good storying telling on the PlayStation

This is nostalgic but I always walked away from these games frustrated and wanting more. I was too young to grasp the story.

Até hoje eu me apego em Driver e Driver 2. Não pelo fator nostalgia, mas sim pela qualidade do jogo, ele tem uma identidade única, aquele gostinho de filme de perseguição pelas cutscenes, excelentes trilhas sonoras que dão a atmosfera do jogo.
Gráficos lindos. Nem parece ser de ps1. Jogava quando criança mas nunca cumpria as missões. Era só pra sair correndo e batendo nas coisas. Hahaha

Getting on the first bus you found was the real way to play this game. So much fun! Caine's precinct was so fun (and hard!)! I can never forget those yellow vans... they haunt me!
Also staying right behind the guy you had to chase... almost to the point he would see you... I can totally relate hahah. You'd never know if the guy would randomly speed up in the next turn
If cane had a learning disability he would be easy to find and would make random mistakes....he would make same turn twice ....and be slow at every turn

Is it just me or does the Havana Police siren sound like a dying cat?
This is about three years late, but I may as well give a bit of context:
The police cars from Havana (Along with all the traffic cars, trucks, buses etc.) are based on those from the late '50s and earlier, seeing as that's around the time the US-Cuba trade embargo went into effect. In other words: Cuba worked with what they had for the better part of the 20th century.

In 2000 i was only 11 years old. some memories i never finished the game but played it a lot.. i also remember parasit eve 2, Dino crisis 2 and resident evil 2 and 3 ;D

Me, my close friend and his brother were trying the finish the whole game on my PlayStation at the same night and we were only 9 years old back then... We had several gaming nights like this just to finish the game. We were motivated by the idea of recieving a gun in the end (because we saw a gun on almost every trailer 😂). We wanted to play as GTA on PlayStation 1. After 15 years he mentioned me this legendary game (we haven't talk about it for so long) and he was still remembering every detail. Good times...

Seeing this now that I’m 25 and having and love for the 80s and 90s aesthetic vibes I truly do see drive 1 pulled off the 80s cops chase and action movies and driver 2 pulled off the early 90s cop chase and action movies to the music Choice and music theme. And also I’m from Chicago so I’m happy the first place you start in is Chicago :D
I could have never imagined we would have gameplay as good as those cutscenes back then lol. The Cut Scenes used to look incredible!

I remember my friend told me about that, then i tried doing it at my home i couldnt so had to wait for him to come over and show me how to do it.
All in all was a great game, you can lost ur self for hours playing it, hoping it wont freeze or stuck somewhere and if u didnt had the memory stick in u were fucked lol

There was a mission in Havana that was so tough to pass, when you had to drive from one place to another under given amount of time. And i always got the cops on me and get wrecked. And those cop cars in Havana were so annoying
One of them was the Mini Cooper, all of a sudden “the Italian job” came out
