99.9% sure your rod bearings were done.
I have an 09 E93 with 137k miles and no clear service records but the seller told me it was done.
$16K is a great price. Congrats man. I wouldn’t go for the M5 though, that’s worse in maintenance costs. Enjoy your M3

You were right to start with @ 5:30 , the problem is with the clearances. Sure ragging it when cold will almost certainly speed up the problem! But even if it had always been warmed up properly since day 1 (likely not with that mileage!) it's still possible that the bearings could wear prematurely, it just depends on the clearance lottery. And assuming yours does have it's original bearings (it's done very well so far!), then it's certainly at the lucky end of the lottery!
But why push your luck? I don't think you mentioned the year of your car, but if it's an early version (up to about 2010) with the lead/copper bearings, nearly all of those bearings pulled are badly worn, with the protective lead embedding layer worn through and showing copper (my own were at about 77k). If you want to see some evidence of that, look through the 100s of photos posted of pulled bearings in the "Official S65 Rod Bearing Condition Example Thread" in the M3post forum (and yea that takes a while! I know, I've done it! lol).
Oh and some of those engines have gone over 150k miles with the original bearings, but that doesn't mean the bearings are still ok!
Btw the 'scratches' on the rear bumper is probably where a/the previous owner backed into a lamp post or similar (the damage lines up with the dent in the boot/trunk lid), in other words they'll be more damage behind the bumper.
Your car and you would be better off saving your money for doing the rod bearings first and then fixing the body issues before doing any further mods. Sorting those out would make it more sellable, whereas aesthetic or (modest) performance mods won't make much difference there. I know that isn't as much fun though! 😉

I've had five BMWs three of them were M3 right now I have an e92 M3 guess I should knock on wood but out of all five BMWs I have put well over 200,000 miles on each one of them only problem I ever had with any of them was my 330ci fuel pump went out underneath the backseat half-hour 75 bucks no big deal at all...... These cars are extremely reliable I don't know what people do to them.... actually i do young guys get ahold of them don't maintenance them properly but they put it to the floor every time they get in it no car can handle that you got to drive it normally most of the time and when it comes time to get busy you get busy but you don't do it 24/7 guaranteed that's what happens to these cars people are just too hard on them because they are fun to drive hard but no car can take it constant I was 20 years old at once I did the same thing I had a Nissan 240SX I beat the shit out of that car took the springs off front and back 13 inch Daytons I was rough on that car I used to make it hop by chopping the accelerator LOL blew the transmission out three times broke the Driveline twice flying down Highway 50 at like 130 and my Hood came off that was fun LOL it ended up getting towed Away by a junkyard I did all that damage and 3 years I bought it new

In a way, yes. These cars are at the bottom of the market now and will only go up in value in the next few years.
I’ve seen 2010-2013 M3 for well above $30K. You save a ton of money by going older and higher mileage.

@@eiji81 Interesting, here in the UK the bottom of the market was about 2019-2020. Bought my M3 (~76k miles) for £14.7k near the end of 2019, now similar cars are going for £18-20k (they do seem to be dropping slightly atm though).

Honestly, I'd sell it and buy another E92 with less than 80k miles and proof of rod bearing replacement. Yeah you'll spend some more money but there's really no point in modding or putting more money into this one because it's near the end of it's life... Unless you supercharge it and your planning on getting tons of power out of it until it blows, but yeah. I would get rid of it for sure
