      At this point it's not about the product but its concept. At 5K it had no future anyway. The only reason they even sold it was because they had it.

      @@mcwolfbeast I absolutely would. My favorite portable/mobile setup was a Microsoft Surface Pro with a 60% low profile Keychron mech keyboard - its great for a digital nomad lifestyle. The larger screen on this fold would be a great replacement, however that absolutely outrageous price... Might as well just buy a USB external monitor for the Surface lmao

  • @HarmonicaMustang

    Here are my problems:
    - As an owner of a foldable phone, I don't like to have the screen out and about because I see things for what they are: it's a thin, plastic film that is easy to damage just by running your fingernail across it. If ANYTHING falls anywhere on that massive screen, it's gone, and the way they're incorporated into the chassis makes them impossible to replace.
    - It's a HP. Their approach to milking as much money out of you as possible with printers, and the infamous build quality of most of their laptops, just makes me want to steer clear of this thing.
    - I can somewhat understand the cost, but it will only make it affordable to people who want it for its impressiveness, and not because they will actually make use of its capabilities. It's an expensive fashion statement, like a gold Rolex.

      You said pretty much exactly what I was thinking. I avoid HP just because of the printer thing. Anti-consumerism is not something I support.

    • @kingzach74
      @kingzach74 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Their laptops are their only saving grace as a company. While as an IT professional I'm required to support the ubiquitous HP printers, I personally would never buy an HP printer, their laptops are quite a different thing entirely.
      HP laptops are quite repairable in the enterprise sector and plenty of parts are available for reasonable prices. Even their consumer laptops far outshine Apple and Samsung in repairability.
      Most parts can be found online from numerous places such as eBay and Amazon and merely a few screws away(depending on the model will determine if they are all matching or different sizes).
      Their consumer printer ink gouging and anti-consumer practices are abhorrent for sure but there is no denying their reliability in the business sector.

    • @crimsonghoul8983

      @@kingzach74 Problem with making it quite repairable is that you get laptops that do not have a prolonged life span. As soon as that thing is out of warranty, you better start looking for a new laptop. Or if that laptop is given to you by a company, you ask for a replacement as soon as possible. That's what irks me. In my experience, I have always found Dell and Lenovo laptops to be pretty durable, even if they can be a tad bit expensive than a HP laptop and are harder to repair.

    • @rikkoningen3992
      @rikkoningen3992 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@crimsonghoul8983 In my professional experience this does not seem to be true. At my work one of the things we do is refurbish older business laptops to resell. Currently we have stacks and stacks of HP elitebooks. I'm the guy repairing the broken ones. At 5-6 years old minimum we see around 1 broken one to 50 perfect order ones and even then about 70% of those defects are user inflicted, liquid, drops, broken ports etc. Compared to say the toshiba sattelite pro line we dealt with before where we had a close to 50% failure rate of just the keyboard ribbon cable connector. Easy fix sure but holy hell was that a boring few weeks just going through and fixing all those things.
      At home I use a Dell laptop that I've had for ages but honestly, depending on product line of course, HP seems to be pretty damn good. Note that my experience is on a 5-6 year delay as you don't get laptops in for refurbishing or repair much sooner than that if they're in any way durable.

    That we 'get used to'.
    I simply refuse to invest in any 'folding' screen technology.
    If I buy something with a screen, I expect it to be perfect and not have a built in 'life span'. There's a limit to how many times these screens can fold, which will force a person to ultimately get it repaired or replaced.

    Being brutally honest, device like this should have had AMD cpu, cuz you know 780M or 760M APU can actually "game". This would make it even more versatile, as at this point it would be basically Steam Deck/ROG Ally and I would imagine battery live would be even better. Also... It seems like Handheld + External portable screen beats the hell out of this price to value. I know it is not the same, but for a portable setup, there is nothing price wise that would beat it. Besides... foldable screens are still a gimmick / gadget imho as it is actually unknown how long those will last till they break... and replacing screen will most likely be unreasonable & uneconomic. I would rather get Flow X13 or maybe Minisforum V3 Tablet for a fraction of the price. Clearly I am not the "target costumer" for this lol.

    11:12 - I am still using my Samsung Galaxy X Flip3 as my daily driver phone - still no issues apart from needing to replace the screen protector every 18 months! I now use a MATTE screen protector, so much better than a regular looking screen. But the fold ability into my pocket is my main game changer, always was! Including it minor flaw of a crease that you get used to in a DAY.......the positives FAR outweigh the negatives! It can be a minimalist phone and still be a regular glass brick phone. The smaller real estate in your pocket is the best!! Plus using its outside screen along with the fingerprint scanner without opening the phone (to access bluetooth access etc for Spotify and such) in your car or whatnot is a neat thing! I look forward to Hewlett Packard sending me a review unit of this laptop of my dreams......I am verified on YT and Spotify not paid!!! lol

    It isn't the performance loss from poor thermals that is such a problem. It's the effect on battery longevity of overheating the whole machine if you _do_ push the thermals. Most lithium based batteries swell if overheated for any significant length of time. In a thin machine like this, that swelling will break internal components and warp the case enough to end up breaking the keyboard, screen, or both. It's the failure mode on most thin-and-lights, but this one looks like that failure mode will happen too soon. Look at the standard warranty length and it'll give you a good idea when a bulging battery is likely to manifest.
