Hi, I've been doing recall training with my parrotlet but his response is not as immediate as what I'm seeing on your videos. Usually, he would take his time eating the treat, and get distracted, by the time I want him to fly to my hand again, there is a long lag time. How do I train him to respond more immediately?

I just found your TH-cam channel and am interested in finding a Parottlet and adding him to our home. I never knew these birds existed but they have piqued my interest. How do you go about finding a reputable place that produces healthy birds?
Oh and what do I do if she bites? I figure she’s like a puppy and doesn’t know. One Parrotlet book says I should say no firmly and blow in her face and then praise her for stopping. It seems to work but you said in an earlier video to withhold treats but that seems to encourage biting while she looks to do something with her beak since she can’t eat.

I've had my (possibly) female cockatiel for 4 months now, and she's turning 7 months on Feb. 14 😊
We got her from a rescue center for parrots that also profesionally bred a few species of parrots (cockatiels, budgies, etc.) for some extra money to keep them going. So I got my Kristy from there, and they had already clipped her wings as to so she doesn't fly away. So we brought her home and I spent all day, every day, with her so keep in mind by this point she's almost fully tamed. Her flight feathers grew in and she started flying in dangerous areas, no matter how many times I attempted teaching her not to. We have a giant window on the second story of our house, and she flew into that one day. The window is very high up, there's no way to reach it without a ladder. After 15 minutes of shooing her down with a long stick, I had to unfortunately clip her wings (don't worry, I've done it before when I used to have budgies. I had to give them away shortly after so I never got to see the full results of training them) because she could have broken her nose. One of my budgies (the wild one) flew into that window before when someone left the cage open and got a bloody nose and we had to rush him to the vet. He lived, don't worry. So, my cockatiel loves me very much, never bit anyone, is a gentle soul, yet she has almost no control of her flying and flies everywhere whenever she gets the chance, including the dangerous kitchen and that one window. How could I possibly prevent her from getting injured from reckless flying? How do I train her to not fly everywhere? I do not want to clip her wings for the rest of her life. Even just tips on helping me out would be nice.

Hey everybody, I’m in desperate need of help with my green cheek conure. I’ve had her for two and a half years now, and she has always loved cuddling, playing, etc. About six months ago, however, she started becoming terrified of my hands. Not me, just my hands. This fear eventually turned into brutal and unpredictable anger. There are some triggers but no one clear reason. She isn’t very affectionate anymore, and would much rather be climbing around my room or with a different family member. Anyone know what’s going on? Or have any ideas to help?
Personality change is a sign of sickness in birds. I thought that was the reason but then you said "or with family members". Just try to take it slow and pretend you are taming her again.

Listening to this, it pisses me off that I was encouraged to clip my birds wings when he was a baby. He pants, spirals out of control and crashes when he tries to fly just like she says. I get why I was told, but in the long run, I feel like I've hindered the growth of my baby.

I have a question! I have a cage with 4 budgies in it. I have 3 females one male. I recently caught two of them mating, and I have never had babies before. What do I do? Do I separate the pair from the other 2 and put a nest box in the separate cage? The mating has also been very frequent. Please help!

Hey! Im having trouble keeping my bird concentrated while teaching him tricks. I have a 2 month old cockatiel and no matter what I do he always runs off to do something else when im trying to get him to do something. Is he just too young or is there something I could do? I have tried removing distractions, he manages to find something to play with or or walks off. Thank you for your videos! Love your channel
What are your suggestions for the first few months with a new Parrotlet? I brought Jade home a week ago and she is not hand tamed so I’m getting her comfortable with stepping up. She’s still shy but will do it with food/millet enticements. Should I clicker train or target train at the same time? I just want to snuggle her but she is too new. 😜 I am trying to go at her pace.

I have a question. How would you go about moving houses with a bird. I have a green cheek conure aswell and my family is moving in 2 months or so. I am aware that some birds can get very stressed and sad during that time. Do you have any tips on how to move with a bird?
I helped my sister in a move a few years back. She kept them in the cage and covered them with a towel. The towel was a good idea, keeping them inside their cage was not. The cages she had her birds in were big and bulky so they would tilt and bang into stuff and spook the birds. I would recommend a smaller carrying container that is easier to transport and to keep them covered the whole time for the move itself.
I was wondering if you can make a video, on how to tame a little bird that is absolutely terrified of hands, and humans in commen. I have 2 little birds at home and I have not tamed them yet, So I know you know allot about little birds, so I trust you the most about telling me if it is still possible!🕊
my budgie was never clipped and is fully flighted, but bc he came from a pet store, he is a terrible flyer, every time i let him out he keeps flying in circle and has no idea how to get back to his cage. I've had him only a month but he is not very responsive to treats which makes it very hard for me to get him to train for anything, let alone to fly to me. He doesnt even know how to step up on a perch when I place it near him with a treat unless he is very hungry lol. its a struggle.

Hey plz help me, wen ever I start training my bird, he obeys me for 5min in the start, then he starts to show me his back, and then he askes me to scratch his head, I give him the treat he wants. But I don't understand how to train him.

Oh thank god you uploaded this I actually have a sun conure at this awkward stage that was clipped as a baby and I just did not know how to get her to fly, your gcc seems like he wants to fly whereas my sun conure doesn’t even try even tho her wings are grown back, she’s made maybe 4 attempts at flying and they sort of fit this description so I’ll be sure to try these exercises
also check her other 'recent' videos. there's been a decent number of videos detailing how she's gone about "rehabilitating" Newt (the Maroon Conure - not actually a gcc, but very close) from a really terrible wing-clip. a lot of it is very similar to how to teach humans; first you need to show them it's possible, and then you show them how to become good at it. your Sun might just have been clipped so young that she never did learn to fly, and even if her feathers have grown out now, she might not realize it's a thing that's possible.
I have a sun conure too! I got her a little over a week ago, and her wings are starting to grow in again. She's a little over 3 months old. She's been pretty adventurous though and has been trying to fly everywhere.
My flying monkeys slowly flew as they were comfortable. My GCC had his wings clipped at first and they grew back but he was still climbing and walking everywhere for about a month before he slowly began flying when he was ready. The budgies I hand feed and tame have all learned to fly on their own first going from perch to perch then to follow me when I walk away. None of them were trained. None have injured themselves. When they fly where we don't want them to, just always stay calm and follow at a safe distance so they don't feel chased then say "step up" and move them. Flying is what they do naturally with the equipment God gave them. I don't have wings soooo 🙄.

Alright I know this is technically unrelated but we just adopted our first parrotlet he's a 5 yr old male but due to lack of previous attention he's plucked almost all his feathers. Any advice on how to prevent featherpicking while they grow back? We've owned budgies pigeons, starlings, a Macaw and African grey but never a parrotlet so were kinda learning as we go but he's got a vet appointment next week so hopefully we'll be able to get some ideas.
Jessica Gislason I had a parrotlet but he died when he was 5 months old because of diseases passed down from the harsh breeding conditions. If you still have this problem, I recommend lots and lots and LOTS of toys made to be destroyed and shredded. I know it’s easier said than done, but I also recommend taming him. Since you have an african grey I assume you know this already ahah. Plucking feathers can also become a habit so as long as you give him lots of love and extra attention he should be fine! Hope this helped
Hey! Just a quick question. I am a student and heading off to college in less than 2 years, but after that, I am looking forward to finding a feathered friend. I've been researching conures and parrotlets for a few weeks and know not to get them at big brand petstores, but where exactly is a good place to find birds? Are aviaries/breeders more humane?
Aeth's Hex From my experience, please please please do not buy from a pet shop without visiting or researching the breeder. I had a parrotlet for 5ish months and he was everything to me and extremely tame and kind. I lost him unexpectedly due to a disease from his parents or poor breeding.
I personally think it’s best to get a bird that can no longer be taken care of by its owner. I don’t know where you’re from, but here in Ireland, we have websites where you can buy and sell your cars, pets, furniture etc. Cockatiels especially are very kind and will take to a new owner if treated well and given lots of attention. :)
What species are Newt?
I have a baby Parrotlet that has been with me a month. Should I get a second one since she’s on her own all day till I get home? Should I buy her sister if I can? Could I buy a ‘stranger?’Can I put two parrotlets in same cage? I worry about loneliness. But then I worry if I get two they won’t play with me. And yet yours do.
Parrotlets are usually more agresive birds so it's best to not put parrotlets in the same cage

Hi, I was wondering if you have any advice for me. I got a parrotlet almost a year and a half ago, I got her young but I knew nothing about birds and never trained her. She’s very skittish and flies away any time something is put near her (toys, treats etc). She is aggressive and will lightly bite sometimes when I try to pet her. She will let me pick her up lightly with both hands and sit on my shoulder if she feels like it. I want to try to get her to be less scared of things and I was hoping to train her a little. Any ideas?
JessInTheFlesh The best thing I can think of doing is starting from scratch. Tame her as if you’ve just got her. First get her used to your presence by coming closer and closer to the cage, then read some books out loud to get her used to your voice, start placing your hand ON the cage NOT IN the cage, then begin to target train her. (Flock Talk have an amazing tutorial on target training if you are interested)

Could you do a video on how to bird-proof a room/where to put cages/having birds in the house? I love your videos and since I want to get a cockatiel soon I want to make sure I can spend time with him in the right space.
I’m keeping the cage outside and bring him inside to interact bc I live in Australia and the temperatures suit cockatiels pretty well as they’re native here, and we’re planning to clip his wings so that he can’t escape (humanely of course.) just wanted to add that in case it changes anything. I want him to be able to hang out inside, (with our supervision bc we don’t want any chewed up furniture,) as I know it’s very important for birds to have various places where they feel safe and secure, and I’m not sure where in the house it would be appropriate.
I hope someone can help me out with this or that you can with a video :)
