I enjoy your videos, but as a Buddhist I have to say you do made a mistake with something. Is not that Buddhism proclaims that it takes billions of lives to become a Buddha, in fact enlightment can be achieve in one single life time (I think the minimal time according to most traditions is 21 days). Of course it can take several eons but there's nothing preventing someone to achieve it faster.
Here and on the nature of Buddha there are important differences between the Hinayana, Mahayana and Vajrayana traditions (as for example Mahayana believe that Buddha was already a Boddhisatva while Theravada don't, they believe he actually achieve Buddhahoor in one lifetime. I think Theravadas for example do not accept the Jakata tales a canonincal for this reason). Another different is that Tibetan Buddhism considers that there are always 6000 years between one Great Buddha (Tatagatha) and another which means that could not be billions of years between Gautama and Dipankara (however different schoold do handle different time periods between the two).

@@ElOchentero Video writer here-- Agreed that many Buddhist traditions think that it can take followers as short as one lifetime to achieve awakening. But the jataka stories generally portray Gautama Buddha as having taken many, many lifetimes to have reached his final birth, which seems to be agreed to by all traditions.

One crucial element to the Siddhartha Gautama origin story is that his parents received revelations that their son would become a great sage. So they purposefully kept Siddhartha sheltered and "in the dark" about the miseries of the world.

That adds credibility to the story. Normally even a privileged (in the traditional sense) person would be told or even observe the facts of aging and death within their own extended family. It would take a special effort to keep someone that ignorant.

Sambridha Thapa it’s part of a much larger prophecy that exists as well, between every Buddha spawn there is a world empire that ruled by Chakravarti’s. A Chakravarti cannot exist at the same time a Buddha exists, hence why the King did not want his son to become a sage as he wanted his son to forge a World Empire as Atlas did with Poseidon’s Atlantis prior to the Younger Dryas Impact (10,000BCE) and as Ikshvaku did with Manu’s Surya Vamsa after (8000BCE-2000BCE). Younger Dryas Impact being a cataclysmic comet impact detailed in Gobekli Tepe inscription which created Meltwater Pulses that rose sea levels by 400’, submerging continents such as Azores (Atlantis), and Sundaland (Lemuria) while shrinking the coastlines (East US/West India). If you look on Google earth, every light blue area in the ocean was land before this impact.

I grew up in Thailand, and the widely practiced version of Buddhism there is Theravada, which has been merged with Animism, meaning there is a strong belief in evil spirits that can harm humans, and many rituals to ward off or appease those spirits. Most houses around Chiang Mai where I grew up would have some kind of spirit house on a pillar or shrine where offerings would traditionally be made to spirits who may be around your home. It’s hard to say how much of the population of Thailand believes in the demonology side of this version, but over 90% of the country’s people identify as Theravada Buddhists, and beautiful temples ordained with depictions of the thinner, meditative Buddha can be found all over.

Then he will be what we called Buddha means there won't be anymore reincarnation. One God day is equal to 72 yrs of human being years. No active prophets, Little to no Temples left from the old world that that actually functioned properly. Basically no spirituality or religious doctrines for him to build on when he himself became spiritually minded. Plese contact me about this on account of your empathy for his story shows that you understand the spiritual anguish and frustration he must have felt with little to no spirit in the world at the time. That is why the more I come to respect him as a person, the more I come to disrespect modern buddhism and vice versa. Considering the lack of example. Im suprised he gained the wisdom that he did. I think it worked for him mostly because his self-discovery was more driven from hatred for the wicked world and it's distractions thaan it was a love/seeking for something more out there. I respect that greatly.

It's funny to me that so many disagreements of Buddhism happen simply due to linguistic variances.
I would say that Samsara is similar to people working for an employer who will never recognize them.
Awakening is the Epiphany that they don't need to keep feeding into this cycle.
In my eyes, a midlife crisis can qualify as an awakening, and so everyone has the same potential.

buddhism is one of those belief systems that I genuinely believe would improve my life and make me happier if I were to follow it, but I've always felt that it'd be a bit disingenuous of me to try and join in after being raised in another religion and then leaving it, especially being born in a country with very little buddhist presence. It's still always a treat to learn more about it, though

Interesting presentation. I would have liked to hear you discuss the difference in Theravada & Mahayana Buddhism- the later having more of the esoteric, mythological teachings. The Pali cannon, which the Theravada Buddhists follow just focuses on the teachings regarding the path out of suffering. 🙏🏼

Good video, but I want to make one minor clarification. "Buddha" is not only "The Awakened One", but most importantly he's self-awakened so its really used most often in the context that he is the first and did not learn the awakening from a teacher. Otherwise the term "Arhat" is used for those who are awakened by way of the teachings of another.

I enjoyed your video and also hope you will focus on the Theravada tradition at some point. Like any other formalized religious path the offshoots tend to add a great deal to the scriptures in an effort to promote their own dogma. Mahayana forms have strayed quite a distance from the core teachings while still holding to some of the main or basic beliefs. I don’t have an institutional understanding in Dhamma, my understanding comes from from studying the Pali canon and being a part of the Thai Forest tradition Sangha. I ordained twice for very short periods of time and maintained a meditation practice for many years with formal and personal retreats. Most lay Buddhists have no idea what the actual Buddha taught and leave that up to the monks. Not all monks delve into the practice very deeply and fewer yet learn enough of the Pali to wrestle with the meaning lost through translation and obvious later additions. You are right that life is a cycle and not a straight line. There is no definable beginning conditioned reality. That which we can experience is “ not self “ and is a part of suffering. Let go and just “ be “ and you realize that freedom is not something you gain as an individual ego. It is the indescribable infinite possibility without the limits of time or space that is the core reality to all existence. Here is a small quote from the Kaccayanagota Sutta:
By & large, Kaccayana, this world is supported by (takes as its object) a polarity, that of existence & non-existence. But when one sees the origination of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'non-existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one. When one sees the cessation of the world as it actually is with right discernment, 'existence' with reference to the world does not occur to one.
"By & large, Kaccayana, this world is in bondage to attachments, clingings (sustenances), & biases. But one such as this does not get involved with or cling to these attachments, clingings, fixations of awareness, biases, or obsessions; nor is he resolved on 'my self.' He has no uncertainty or doubt that just stress, when arising, is arising; stress, when passing away, is passing away. In this, his knowledge is independent of others. It's to this extent, Kaccayana, that there is right view.
"'Everything exists': That is one extreme. 'Everything doesn't exist': That is a second extreme. Avoiding these two extremes, the Tathagata teaches the Dhamma via the middle:

Sugata Buddha, believed to be the 9th incarnation of Lord Vishnu, was born in Bodh Gaya or Kikata. He was the son of Anjana.
Our lord buddha is gautama buddha and parents were king sudodana and queen maya.
Buddha has preached buddhism for devas, humans, yakshas, brahmins and worshipped by many gods. Buddha is not a avatar of anyone

Fun fact: While Siddhartha Gautama was taking his first 7 steps to the north, there were lotuses under his feet when he walked. He pointed to the sky with his right hand and pointed the ground with his left hand. He claimed himself as "The Chief of the World" but actually he said "天上天下 唯我独尊" which translates to "Above and below the heaven, I am the only honoured one". This phrase actually means that everyone is their world's honoured one. No one can control or change your life as long as you make the right and good decisions. Therefore, you are the chief/master of your own world.

All of you forget one thing, that one thing is the most important. He was taught Yoga by a Guru and he read a book about Yoga. Buddhism is Sanatana's smaller version when Sanatana society entered Kaliyuga. All of the teaching that Buddhism has to offer already existed in Sanatana Dharma and still we think Buddha as one of us and worship him. There's no such thing for us like buddhism as it's core values are the same.
