Im very impressed with your Van layout, we've just bought a new, but smaller Peugeot L3 H2 and we are going to convert it ourselves to a "day Van type set up" with a 4' pull out bed, shower and toilet + kitchen. The main thing for us is carrying our E Bikes (there quite big) for which Ive built a 80cm Garage in the rear (my wife didn't want the bed high up over the Garage) Your video was great thanks :-)
Absolutely fantastic. Just 2 things. 1. Can you drive to our house to make sure it fits on our drive 2. When we buy a camper, can you come with us please xx
Amazing, congrats 👏 Do you have any photos or videos online? We love seeing other L4 H3 vans as they aren’t overly common. Have you had time to get out and enjoy it yet? 🚐

Thanks so much, we’re going to give another one a try at the Vanlife Festival this week if we don’t get too distracted (we probably will) Thanks for noticing the dolly too! 👌 🎥

Great van tour. Are there any other advantages for choosing the highest roof option apart from the upper storage room. Such as shower room or other things?
your specs are really interesting as obvs made for a couple (plus eight paws) - would be a great vid to view your build costs - expecting higher than the usual for this spec and reasons you opted for them and how its working out per feature - as you are experienced in vanlife already and had a winter and summer.
We absolutely love the additional height still. I’m sure it must effect the fuel economy slightly vs the low roof but we’ve never had any issues with it.

Hey 👋 We’re currently in Croatia and over the last 2.5k miles since leaving the UK our average is 23.5mpg. That’s a mix of mountains / motorways / all sorts
What a fab layout you have guys ! And it appears you have everything planned just right. Are there any changes you would make ? Designing van layouts is such a drag, nice to see one which im sure many converters will hope to recreate ? I like the" tall shower/ wardrobe behind the driver" idea and still have an open cab and swivel seat. Saves that " central division" feeling that you can get with middle washrooms. Is the diesel heater supplied from the vehicle fuel tank or fuelled seperately ? How has the height and length been with parking and low restrictions etc ? Im inspired....
Hi 👋 We did a blog post on our site which covers some changes we’d make. The diesel boiler is to the main tank. In terms of size it’s been perfect for us. Big enough to live in but small enough to take it down some narrow and bumpy roads. Height wise it’s a bit irrelevant as barriers are either sub 2m high for cars or not there.
Hi Guys, enjoying your Instagram posts. Just checked out your Moon Shade, we are not sure about spending over a grand to have an windout awning fitted. Moon Shade looks good, we are 5' 3" so we will need a pull out ladder. All in all cheaper bet. You were swapping over your water / heating system to diesel? how is it working out and what system did you fit.
👋 Our friends currently parked next to us are shorter and have a shorter van, they seem to manage easily to put the Moon up without a ladder. That said we always carry a collapsible ladder in the back for getting on the roof / cleaning the solar panels etc. The new boiler system is great, we stayed with Truma as we like the multiple vent options and how quiet they are. It’s the 6De we run now, and we also have the ability to run it off the inverter when off grid on big solar days (hot water uses between 800-2000w so you need a fairly bit setup to do this) Very happy with the swap, slightly frustrated money wise we didn’t just spend the extra from day 1.
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Many Thanks for your reply. We have watched your build and travels. Top end Wi Fil and electrics. A coupe of months back we bought a MWB Crafter, kitted out but we plan to strip it out after the summer sason. Hence the questions. Every day is a learning one with vans. Safe travels.
Thanks for this video. 💐How has it been driving and parking such a large van? Trying to decide between an L3H3 and L4H3... I really, really want the extra length, but even the L3 is very daunting to me.
Hi 👋 The L3 and L4 are largely the same when driving and parking due to the wheelbase being the same between both vans. With the L4 you can fit into a single bay/parking space so long as you can overhang the back section of the van. This normally means parking at the edge of a car park so you can park over a curb for example. The vehicle size has been really practical for us and we’ve had no issues travelling full time in this 🚐
Enjoyed your video, very informative. We are having a van converted by vanlife conversions early in 2025 so have a bit of time to make decisions. My current area of indecision is size of van. I like the idea of the L4H3 ( keeping bikes in the van ) but am concerned about keeping under the 3.5t limit. Vanlife conversions recommend uprating to 4.5t but this would require a driving test. Is it a problem for you keeping under the weight limit and is the size of the van a problem when getting around ? Cheers
👋 We really like the L4 H3 and certainly wouldn’t personally go to a shorter L3 or H2 model with everything we want inside. The L4 drives the same and can fit in most the same spaces as the L3 due to the same wheelbase and only the overhang being longer. You’ll lose a some extra MPG with the H3 vs H2 if that’s a factor. We have averaged about 24mpg over the last 18 months across EU and Türkiye. Like you, we didn’t want to up plate the van, due to our own licenses and also potential issues with future resale value, also costs and restrictions parking/driving a heavier van in some places.
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Thanks for your reply. I didn’t appreciate all the implications of a weight increase so thanks for highlighting that. With all the toys in your garage if you manage to keep it underweight I think we should be able to too. Cheers
have you gone in to snow regions for significant time yet? wondering how your chassis mount water holds up with heating element (first van i've watched with this). most alpine vans seem to host smaller water tanks inside and still use a backup yeti tank for when those tanks inevitably (surprisingly) freeze up.
We haven’t been anywhere with sustained sub zero temps yet. We’re also planning on chasing the sun for winter so it’s unlikely we’ll test it out anytime soon.
Thanks 🙏 Height restrictions aren’t really an issue for us, we spend 99% of the year outside of the UK where they are the biggest problem. Any vehicle above 1.8/2m is in the same position really. Sometimes we have to pay more on ferries or tolls with the H3. Parking, again no issues.
Hi 👋 We’ve never changed our log book, we’ve never seen the value in doing it and we didn’t want to put awnings and graphics etc on the van just to comply with DVLA specifications
Did you consider expedition-type slide out drawer/rail units for the garage? Seen then used more on G-wagons/Defenders but look a good option for under bed storage with lots of sports gear... weight/expense/flexibility scare me off.
I think this system would be ace for a dedicated biking setup but for the additional weight and the way we have to stack all our gear in it wouldn’t have worked for us.
In the current market for a similarly featured/specced professional conversion and a brand new van with the same upgrades and size it’s likely around £65-80k we’d expect.
Hi 👋 The L4 in van terms is not a particularly long vehicle. It has the same wheel base as the L3 so driving it is the same, it’s just the slightly bigger overhang on the L4, you can fit in a lot of the same spaces. If you want to chat for more info you can message in our FB group 😊 facebook.com/groups/vanlifeconsultations
Very nice build guys. Been looking at the L4H3 boxer instead of a tranny to give us more options (bed), how is the reliability of the van itself and do you know your overall weight of the van kitted up??
Hi 👋 The vans been great for us, we had it new and it’s still only on 35k miles. Outside of tyres, new discs and a new fuel filler cap we’ve not had any breakdowns or repairs on it. Not sure on the current weight situation 😅
Hi 👋 The van was weighted back in 2020 when it was completed but I can’t remember what the exact weight was. It was several hundred KG under the allowances though.
We’ve got another video all about some changes we’d make. It just so happens that in a couple of months we’ll be returning to the UK to make some new changes and updates too so keep you’re eyes peeled or follow on instagram.com/theroadtwospoons
How do you find the lpg fill point on the opposite side to the diesel? Do lpg pumps reach around if you need to fill both tanks up? Currently deciding where to site mine! Thanks :)
Hey Chris 👋 They are never on the same side and you have to hold a button when filling LPG so long pumps aren’t really a thing. It’s a bit of a faff so if you are able to get them on the same side it will save you doing laps at the pump.
The sink is a normal household sink. The inserts are cut outs from the work top that then sit over the sink to give us more workable space when not washing up.
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons thanks, I don’t want to be nosey it’s just I am saving to have a van build myself and your van is perfect it really is what I would like, could you give me a idea of what it cost you fully done ? Many thanks
Hey 👋 It is under but with the amount of gear we carry it is right on the limit. If you had the same size van without all the sports equipment in the garage it would be no issue 😅
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Thanks. Thing is my build might be heavy and I will also have a paramotor, two paragliders and plenty of other gear in the back. Just no LPG.
👋 The toilet is just hooked onto a strap/bungie. We disconnect the fan and just whip the whole toilet out to shower. With the dimensions of our shower room it would be too tight to leave it in.

Now you have it what would you change?
We’ve got another video all about some changes we’d make. It just so happens that in a couple of months we’ll be returning to the UK to make some new changes and updates too so keep you’re eyes peeled or follow on instagram.com/theroadtwospoons
What are the dimensions of your sink? I have a sink that’s 33” x 22” but I’m thinking it might be too big…
Hi 👋 Our sink is about 36cm wide and 41cm deep internally.
Do you feel the need to avoid bad roads with LPG chassis mounted, or is it well tucked away and protected from bottoming out?
We’ve had no issues or concerns with this so far, it sits pretty high up under the van 🤞
Where did you get that sink from with the insert?
The sink is a normal household sink. The inserts are cut outs from the work top that then sit over the sink to give us more workable space when not washing up.
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Thanks. So you made the cut outs custom? How did you get a lip on the sink to rest them on?
Lovely van 👍 can I ask who done the conversion ?
Thanks - It was a company called Vanlife Conversions.
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons thanks, I don’t want to be nosey it’s just I am saving to have a van build myself and your van is perfect it really is what I would like, could you give me a idea of what it cost you fully done ? Many thanks
Hi Neil, drop us a DM over on Instagram
Did you have much trouble keeping it under 3,500 kg?
Hey 👋 It is under but with the amount of gear we carry it is right on the limit. If you had the same size van without all the sports equipment in the garage it would be no issue 😅
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Thanks. Thing is my build might be heavy and I will also have a paramotor, two paragliders and plenty of other gear in the back. Just no LPG.
How difficult is it to shower with the toilet in the same space? Or do you take the toilet out first?
👋 The toilet is just hooked onto a strap/bungie. We disconnect the fan and just whip the whole toilet out to shower. With the dimensions of our shower room it would be too tight to leave it in.
😘❤️👍
Thanks for watching ✌️
👍👍👍🏆🎉
Hello, can i ask you how heavy is the van?thank you
Hi 👋 It’s 3.5T
🙌🙌🙌
Do you fancy doing a bigger van one day?
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Weekend T6 warrior suits me 🤘🏼
@@TheRoadTwoSpoons Always want more space in the van, but home parking etc dont really allow
was there a reason you opted for Peugeot over fiat version?
We found the best price and availability for the Peugeot so went with that. The Fiat was a bit more ££ for exactly the same specs.
Is this a van life build?
