  • AC Transit is installing the latest and greatest of fareboxes--the GFI Fast Fare. And we're the first bus agency in the country to have them! Pilot phase is underway December 2013; full installation scheduled for January/February 2014.

    I wish we (Long Beach Transit) had these too. Also, King County Metro in Seattle should get these fareboxes too.
    UPDATE: LBT installing this farebox next year 2024

    I ride the AC Transit Buses everyday to work. The new Fareboxes are great. I also use the Magnetic passes AC Transit offers. They work very well. and its fast boarding. cause ya just swipe it and sit down. Love it.

      LIAR! And by ''LIAR¨, I mean ''LIAR LIAR PANTS ON FIRE, YOU FRICKIN' LIAR!!!¨ Admit you are lying! SERIOUSLY, ADMIT IT, you tool of management!
      Alternatively, admit your comment was based on only your first or second experience with the new fareboxes [which, by the way, is a word that does not require a capital letter unless you worship the farebox as your GOD, which seems unlikely, so please never capitalize it again], and that now you realize the new fareboxes are not as ¨great¨ as you initially would have had us believe. REPENT, mrg5800, REPENT!

    A very looooonnnnggg process. Hey driver, why are you so late? Ah, cause of the fare box transactions take forever.

    I like the current boxes better because they let you put in all your coins at once. Why are they being replaced?

      I assume the new fareboxes were cheaper, and by that, I mean the new kickbacks were higher. [hashtag Corruption]

      Cost of up keeping of older fare boxes or parts that are no longer available and or constantly breaking down most likely why they are being replaced.

      @@hiramfibonik4907 - hated the older fareboxes. They would always jam when people throw all their coins in. The newer GFI fareboxes have been talking since they came out in the early 2000s. Transit agencies can program them to talk.

    Who would use a john token to pay for bus fare?

    So what is the "magnetic swipe" slot for?

    • @ea90744
      @ea90744 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      magnetic swipe can be used for swiping monthly passes or the 1-day pass

      jarr1913, I am not making this up, I swear to you, you can look it up: we've been dunking our day pass, but a recent AC Transit directive commanded us to start ¨swiping¨ it, even though, historically, swiping fails more often than dunking. In other words, the inmates are in charge of the asylum! [HASHTAG DunkMyPassSwipeMyAss!]

      +Hiram Fibonik people swipe credit cards all the time. Swipe is much faster.

    "It's Better!" yeah...because our fareboxes totally NEED to talk, and it's great having the farebox reject anything but a perfect bill. Seriously, AC Transit?

    • @TransitAndTeslas
      @TransitAndTeslas 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Because talking makes it seem "higher tech "

    Credit cards now too!

    They don't take pennies anymore? Lame.
    edit: sorry all, I misinterpreted the coin slot diagram. They do accept pennies :P

    • @hiramfibonik4907
      @hiramfibonik4907 10 ปีที่แล้ว

      They still take pennies. Please complain about something else. Like: 1) they now only take 1 coin at a time, so it takes a really really really really really really really long time to pay with coins; 2) It's harder than it used to be to insert an imperfect bill. Seriously, this is a HUGE step backwards in technology, and y'all should be ashamed of yourselves; 3) STOP ADVISING ME TO SWIPE! DUNKING IS SO MUCH EASIER! SWIPING = FAIL!

      Sorry, when these were first installed I thought they were like some of the ones in SoCal where they don't take pennies. Also, I thought they didn't take pennies anymore because the diagram above the coin slot has the quarter, nickel, and dime but no penny picture. Finally, I have never actually used the new farebox because I use a clipper card, but I do see people struggling/bus driver being impatient with it (ie. bills seem harder to insert, coins only going in one at a time, card taking forever to come back out).

    Just getting them here.......This is going to suck! Just what we needed, another babbling robot to drive us insane!
    No matter, I bet the thing doesn't make through rush hour before jamming.
