Thank you so much for paying tribute to Michael Jayston because he wasn't remembered in the baftas,NTA or at the royal variety show.God Bless everyone who died this year x
I finally gave up on radio 2 when Steve wright was dumped ( now listening to greatest hits) I first heard him on radio 1 in the early 80's During the 6 weeks summer holiday his cheerful banter, characters,& co hosts brightened your day ever since, the world is a duller, sadder place without him. Thank you & God bless Steve.
As a fellow Barrowvian Dave Day was a great day of remembrance and fun. Thousands of bikers from all over the country converged and enjoyed events and music throughout the day. I met him a few times, lovely man. RIP Dave Myers.
It's always sad to lose people, but I'm very impressed with this style of presentation when covering bad news. It's calm, thoughtful, respectful, perfectly paced, and handled with marvellous dignity. It's especially nice that there's been no lazy use of a computer-generated narrator's voice. However sophisticated the software engineers claim their latest AI creations are, they simply don't sound real enough. You can tell immediately that they don't CARE about what they're saying. Using one on a video such as this would have been disrespectful and in shockingly bad taste, so full marks to Stuart for keeping the 'human' in 'humanity'. Thank you.
Naturally there are many of these roundups at this time of year, this is by far the best I’ve come across. Beautifully written and lovingly narrated. Thank you for sharing.
They are all irreplaceable Stu but inevitable as it was, losing Ian Lavender hurt especially knowing he was the very last Dads Army actor. Dave Myers passing was a real punch to the the stomach. A genuine nice man who was the same off-screen as he was on. That tribute to him from Si and the 45000 bikes plus the thousands who lined the route just go to prove the fact. It hit me as well being a former biker. Still time for more. Unfortunately, the clock hasn't struck midnight and we've just lost Johnny Walker. 😢
The death of Dave Myers hit me the most too. As you say, a genuinely nice man who was the same off camera as on. The Dave Day tribute ride was truly astonishing.
Many an hour spent on the roads listening to Steve Wright followed by Johnnie so to hear of Johnnie passing away is a blow. That's going to be one heck of a party up there tonight with those two spinning the tunes.
That was an awful lot of people to lose in just half a year! As a small boy the first film I saw was Miranda, with Glynis Johns. I fell in love with the sad mermaid, at around 5 years old, and a portion of my heart, was with her ever since. RIP Glynis. .
So many stars we lost in 2024, and you only did the first half of the year so far! I'm a bit gobsmacked tbh, I didn't know that most of them had died. I knew about Ian Lavender, Steve Wright and Dave, the Hairy Biker guy. But Christian Rodska? I used to love him in Follyfoot, he was also in an episode of "In Loving Memory" as a randy window-cleaner. Also never knew about Tony Green, Georgina Hale, and Michael Culver. He was a really good actor, some very good performances, he will be missed, as will Michael Jayston. Such calibre those old-school actors had, thanks for this Stu, enjoyed it.
Hi Carole. You know it's been a bad year for losing stars when the video has to be made in two parts! So many great character actors this year that maybe didn't as always get the credit they deserved.
This channel is one of those rare gems one seldom finds on YT. Well-made, respectful, and I especially love that you cover the oft-forgotten character actors. Consider me subscribed! And wishing you a Happy New Year!
I recognised Adrian Schiller from his role as Pasha Verdinikov in "Death in Paradise". I was grieved when our Pikey passed last year. Ian Lavender was comic gold.
I first started to listen to Steve wright on radio 1 in the early 80's During the 6 weeks summer holiday until he was unceremoniously dumped by radio 2 were upon I switched to greatest hits where the majority of his colleagues now broadcast. His cheerful banter characters & co presenters have been the soundtrack to my life, the world is a duller place without him. Does anyone else remember his show being tried on BBC 1 at Saturday teatime for one season around the late 80's early 90's? One for you to find stu. Thank you Steve. Rip.
Thanks for the video...we've lost some great stars. Just a note that I think it is Deborah Kerr in the photo with Robert Mitchum (The Sundowners) and not Glynis Johns.
Great video Stu. Always sad to remember those great actors&actresses whom we have lost. I thank them all for the great performances and memories they have given us. A few in there that I hadn’t heard about😢. On a lighter note, best wishes to you for 2025 and thanks for your great videos.
Despite having lived overseas for the greater part of life, I still remember and believe there is a greater part of British Television which is superior to others available. Your video was both joyous in the fact it wasn't click bait and had distinctively compassionate human narrative. Sometimes I am aware of celebrities passing, other times lessor known character actors in British drama I would never know had passed. I thank you for this interesting and insightful tribute.
Thank you for a lovely tribute to many actors & performers across the arts. If I could, I'd like to add the starring role of Will "The Wolfman" in the wonderful film Restless Natives to the tribute of Vincent Friell.
I left the UK in 1982 for the US, so I don’t remember a lot of these actors growing up. The two that stick in my mind are Ian Lavender and Nicholas Ball since I watched their. I’ve also forgotten just how old a lot of the stars I remember from UK tv are since I haven’t seen them for so long. An expat in Florida.
Well done Stu. This was a really lovely tribute. There was a few in there I had not heard had passed 😢. Many thanks for all your videos and Happy New Year 🏴🏴🏴
Michael Jayston should be remembered for his portrayal of Peter Guillam in the 70's TV adaptation of Tinker, Tailor. I also remember him in the title role of Quiller.
Whilst it's shocking the amount of people we've lost this year, I'd just like to point out that Into the labyrinth was actually an HTV production & never appeared on the bbc. I loved the series when I was little & it even gave me niggtmares, Steve Wright's passing was one of those rare announcements that actually upset me.
I always remember Adrian Schiller for a very effective drink driving advert, where he spoke directly to the camera and played various parts in the unfolding tragedy.
I think I mentioned in a previous upload of yours regarding those that we lost in previous years, but as I can't stomach anything on TV or radio, I just don't get the latest tragedies unless I catch someone like you who announces those we lost. I'm genuinely shocked at seeing more of those familiar faces of TV and films that I grew up with, no longer here. Georgina Hale was a particular kick in the groin as I fairly often view episodes of Budgie with Adam Faith. Georgina played Budgies wife and was an absolute magnet for top notch acting. No disrespect to those parting and their relatives but noticing all these performers dropping like flies brings it home even more that I'm actually getting old now. All those I really admire are older than me so what happens when literally none are around when I've one foot in the grave, so to speak.🤔
Yes, it does pull at the heart-strings when you realise these familiar faces are no longer here. I always thought Nicholas Ball deserved a better career after Hazell. I remembered Georgina Hale in a few of the Ken Russell films I've seen.
I often think the same. As we get older, so obviously do the people we admire. Every year there seems less and less of them around but at least we can continue to enjoy them on our screens.
Jeanette Charles' resemblance to the Queen was truly amazing. That she was to pass away at the same age, 96, is just extraordinary. 😮 (Second place in the lookalike stakes: Stanley Baxter!)
John Savident did an excellent turn in Coronation Street. Haven't seen that for years. Do they have any great actors like, John, Pat Phoenix & the many others in the 60s & 70s? I remember John immediately from his small but memorable role in Waterloo. Mr Bennet of Take Hart passing on, I'm sure hit many of us.
I'll admit, most of these I didn't know. I thought John Savidant had died years ago to be honest. Mum's a Corrie fan so I remember him well! Ian Lavender will be sadly missed, as will Dave Myers. But the two I'll miss the most, and whose death's affected me personally, are William Russell and Michael Jayston. Being the Whovian I am I was very active on the convention circuit between 1996 and the mid 2000's and was lucky enough to meet both of these wonderful actors! As you'd expect, they were both lovely men, always had time for a chat, always kind to their fans. I like to think that all the previous DW actors who've passed have regenerated somewhere! It's not so far-fetched, we've all been something else in this planet's 4.3 billion year history afterall! Happy New Year Stu!
John Savident - as we don’t get Coronation Street here in Australia (well not on free to air) I’ll always remember him as Jumbo and the scene with the Minister and Sir Humphrey crammed in to a sleeper compartment discussing a foreign dignitary.

You will find that practically every actor or actress has had a least one role on a soap at one point in their career. It doesn’t make them any less of an actor, it depends on what their agents give them and whether they like the script or not and will take it, 9 times out of ten an actor may be out of work at long periods of time so a lot are grateful for the work. Casualty didn’t become a soap until the turn of the century, before that it was a Medical Drama and many well known actors made cameo appearances in it.

A great voice.
Such a shame that he wasn't mentioned in those tributes. A fine actor.
One of the greats should have been remembered RIP
I enjoyed Michael's understated but intense portrayal of 'Quiller' in the TV spy series, too.
His star turn was the Valyard in Trial of a Timelord.
What a lovely tribute to those who have sadly passed in 2024. Thank you.
