- Flight review and trip report of Qantas Airways flight QF152 from Auckland (AKL/NZAA) to Melbourne (MEL/YMML) on Thursday 5 May 2022 at 0600, with a flight time of 4h15m. I was in seat 9A of a Boeing 737-800 (VH-VZZ).
I went to Melbourne for work for a couple of days, and this is the flight I took to get there! As a result of a series of blunders, I learned a lot about windowless window seats, and I share what I learned in this video.

Man I am SO excited for when I can international travel again. I am like you and haven't travelled since late 2019. We are going back to Europe for family this Christmas and get to go on THREE!!! international flights. Awesome video to remind us of the good time :)
Thank you! It was actually a bit weird - I had forgotten some of the basics, like who needs to see which documents, and, you know, to check whether my seat was ok! I hope your travel at Christmas is straight forward and you make all your connections. The travel requirements are changing all over the place, but the overriding theme seems to be that they are relaxing - I hope you don’t get caught out anywhere.
glad I watched this, I'm booked on a qantas flight home to NZ from Melbourne in dec, just checked and I was booked in seat 9A, which I swiftly changed!

Thanks! It was super weird, but now that I’ve done one I completely want more too - I definitely overthought the logistics, it wasn’t as hard as it seemed. Hopefully you get on an international yourself soon!

Thank you! That's an interesting idea - I've never flown via Christchurch before, I've alway either flown direct from Wellington or via Auckland. I usually go via Auckland if I'm craving a bigger plane or have a business upgrade to use, and it looks like Air New Zealand fly A320s CHC-MEL, and Qantas fly 737s. It's tempting just to get a new route though...

Funny, I think they served the same breakfast on board when I took my first flight on Qantas back in 2016, also on a 737 and also out of AKL (to SYD). I do remember it being delish!

I get the feeling every full service airline serves the same breakfast, although most have a bun. I do like a bun! I hope you enjoyed New Zealand. I’ve flown over Omaha a few times and drove through Nebraska in the 80s while living in WI, but never spent time there. The Midwest is the home of delicious - the food tastes so amazing. It felt like a bit of an own goal, if I’m completely honest. I had a moment of “I’ll never be able to make a video of this without a window”, but where there’s a will there’s away!
I avoid Qantas
Why’s that?
@@SupersonicKiwi I’ve had some pretty average flights with them over the years. I’d book air NZ , I find them better. Living in Auckland , choice of aircraft is better too and the food.
@user-im3hr1ed2l oh, that’s no good. Yes, I agree that Air New Zealand is better trans Tasman, although I do like that every fare class on Qantas gets a meal.
You’re right that out of Auckland has more options, for sure, but being from Wellington I find that they’re not worth the extra time and the transit. I have done it in the past to make use of an upgrade though, haha.
