    This turned out so nice! Your cleaning game is so so good!
    I'm a costumer, and I dye a LOT of fabric for clients, so here are a few tips I can offer:
    It's actually really hard to dye the pony with such a diluted concentration of RIT dye. They hair is nylon, which is a very easy to dye material. I've dyed a few white pony's hair and the dye never takes to the plastic. That being said, it *Can* leech into the pony if the hair touches the pony for extended periods of time (think Surprise and her chartreuse hair). I would recommend a dye stop after you dye the hair. It helps deactivate the pigments and prevents them from excessive bleeding.
    Also, between dyes (like your pink to yellow), use cold water, not hot to stop bleeding. It's like the care instructions suggest a cold washing cycle on richly pigmented clothes (like red shirts which bleed a LOT). Same principles apply here.
    I would also recommend storing a pony with dyed hair with the hair wrapped in tissue or paper towel just to be on the safe side. Your pony is pink on pink, so you have very little to worry about. :)

    i've been going down a rabbit hole watching your videos lately and honestly i'm not upset about it in the slightest lol
    also i've noticed in previous videos where you wrap the ponies heads and rears in paper towel to protect them from being rubbed off during cleaning, and i figured id leave a comment with a tip, to help with that!
    f you don't already know this, you could probably cut out pieces of masking tape to put around the eyes and symbols to protect them from being rubbed off during cleaning. it leaves you with a lot more surface area to work with so you don't potentially end up with weird patchy bits, plus its not as clunky.
    i've used this trick on a couple of projects and let me tell you it has been a LIFESAVER when it comes to preserving certain details i don't want to remove, paint over or mess up accidentally 😅
    love your content, keep up the awesome work dude! :D

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Wow, thank you so much! And welcome aboard 😊 I'm really glad you're enjoying the videos. Thank you for the tip!! I use masking tape sometimes but I found an issue with it: If I keep it for too long, the glue sticks to the pony and it's really difficult to remove without acetone. I should try to just change the the more frequently, though, I feel that might solve it! Or maybe try a different brand of tape! Thank you 😊😊

    this is gonna be a weird question but do you think straight up hair dye meant for human hair would stay? because i have a ton of that and while rit dye is pretty easy to get my hands on i am curious now

    • @signal_ehxx
      @signal_ehxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It wouldn't sadly... it may faintly colour, but it would never stay because it doesn't have the right chemistry to soak into plastic fibers on dolls, but it *will* heavily stain the plastic! The rit dye is just the best way to go :3

    • @celebrityguest.9530

      @@signal_ehxx that's really good to know, thank you so much!!

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hmmm I'm not sure. Like Signal_Ehxx mentions, I think there's a risk it can stain the plastic although that's also something that can happen with rit dye (it is used to dye pony bodies too). You could try with a little strand, though, and let us know 😊😊

    • @signal_ehxx
      @signal_ehxx 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@RetroGeekCrafts I've actually tried it, most colours are very very faint or don't take at all sadly... it's similar for dying synthetic wig hair, they just don't have the right chemistry to heavily stain :( who knows though, maybe if its something like bright green it would do more, but usually it just washes out in warm water and sometimes can be infectious to the body since as far as I'm aware you can't seal it

    1: a kid kept ripping the head off there toys (and possibly hiding stuff in them) and a parent got fed up with it.

      Unfortuantely, there are no other products I know of (personally) that can do the same. However, oxi clean and those stain-removal powders or liquids can make a huge difference, and you can usually find them in the supermarket. One comment about hydrogen peroxide: In some countries it's sold as "hair salon cream". A note, though: It's VERY toxic, it should never touch your skin.

    You inspired me to start reparing old ponies, and i wanted to thank you for that.
    That being said, there is a problem i keep facing : marker marks. See, i use nail-cleaning acetone, which i do not know the percentage of. I also tried other corrosives, and nothing works.
    So, what can i do if acetone fails to remove marker marks ?

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much 😊😊 Some markers are VERY tough to remove. UV light works on most, but it might take months :/

    Not that there have been any of your restorations that aren't, but this one is definitely something to be proud of. she doesn't even look like the same Pony. You didn't happen to measure when you were mixing that dye? You know the group would love that info ;)

    It's really helpful that you don't do the same techniques each time. You could have easily just re-rooted the hair. But you took the time to try something new, which is great, because others can watch your videos and choose the techniques that they feel they can manage when they try to repair and restore ponies as well.
    Also, that particular color of hair always seemed to fade like that. I had a few ponies whose pink hair faded, and it always bothered me when I was a kid. I wonder if there have been any changes to newer doll hair in that shade so that it doesn't fade as easily.
    She looks great. Lickety Split was one of the ponies my best friend had when we were kids. You made her look just like new!

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you so much 😊😊 I try to show different techniques, even when they don't work (that way we at least prove it doesn't!). You're right, this hair colour faded really easily. I was actually convinced Lickety Split was always white haired!

    • @RetroGeekCrafts
      @RetroGeekCrafts  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      A lot of times the plastic used on heads and bodies is different / ages differently. So you end up with very different colours. But because hydrogen peroxide cleans the vinyl so well, they tend to equalize again 😊😊

    Hi, I'd like to ask how I can receive help / tips on how to restore a G4 pony doll, a Twilight Sparkle doll.
    Or maybe restoring isn't the right word for it because, her hair is just matted and she may need a little cleaning on her body to get rid of some unclean spots.
    Would your discord server be perfect for asking help on this matter? I'd love to join in your server if it is.
    Both of the links in this video's description and your channel's about section seemed to be unusable for me, unfortunately...
    🙇 Thank you
