Finally the ARLC/NRL made the correct call. Yes Cam Smith would have been a worthy addition but we need to acknowledge the men who came before. So I add my congratulations to Ron Coote Immortal.

Finally they got it right by naming some after the 90’s. I’m still miffed that John’s got it ahead of many outstanding players from the 70’s and 80’s who changed the game

Johns did it all at every level. Won Dally Ms, Golden Boots. Lead Newcastle to 2 Premierships. All those guys waiting to be next Immortal from Canberra, Broncos , Storm etc had star studded squads compared to what Johns had at Newcastle. C'mon lol 🤦
@@laftw93 yes he was a great footballer, yet he couldn’t get the halfback position from Langer when playing for Australia. I just believe they give immortal status to players too quickly. His off field behavior was deplorable, he can thank M. Hill for sweeping his indiscretions under the carpet. A John’s and Fittler were protected species

Loved watching him play!! Great attacking player with speed and strength. Known for his cover Defence.
Never saw Coote play, but happy that the more recent retired crop of players didn’t get this honour yet. Started watching the NRL in the 90’s. Believe this award should be given to the elite of the elite. Obviously saw big Mal and Andrew John’s play. Also watched Wally Lewis play test league in the 80’s. From the modern era I only believe Cam Smith deserves his place as an immortal. My opinion only.

Have seen the presentation by Ray Hadley of Ron’s Team of the Century Blazer. Now virtually all the living members of that team have been awarded Immortal Status. But giving Ron that blazer to make up for his 2020 loss . Pretty good.

Just a small clarification ...the presenter said only 13 immortals in "the game" should have prefaced it by "the game in Australia" they are all rightfully immortals, but amongst other immortals from the rest of the rugby league world 😊

Yes he was. Not only that and no disrespect to the King, Mal and Joey but it felt very arse about them welcoming Ron Coote on the stage as an immortal. As a forward Ron did it all, and has a 60 year+ contribution across the game

Not saying I don't agree with Coote being an Immortal but this really should have been done years ago. Most modern fans have no idea who Coote is and what he achieved in the game - not to mention he played before the professional era. Next time you make fans wait 20 years for an Immortal, please choose someone relevant.
