    Hey Mark, been following your channel. Probably watched most of your vids by now. I am going through a really tough time right now, things are going to get really bad this week for me. But I am hoping things will get better for the both of us. You give me hope that no matter what life throws, we will try and stay afloat. Thanks for your vids / updates, I feel like their is a lot of pain out there I can relate with you in right now. Keep your chin up, life will become better. You give off a vibe that I feel you truly would help someone out in need, the same should happen to you. Stay strong my brother.

    How to get out of the retail trap?
    Seems like this is what everyone and their mothers settles for because it’s so common if you live in a rural area. It’s either retail or trades at least at the most common jobs in my state

    Why did you move 3 hours away for a low wage job instead of staying in school and subsidizing with loans?

    Folks like us should be teaching finances to high school students. We are all just one hiccup away from going broke or worse. And following all the "rules" won't help build wealth anymore.

      @@galaxyquestg3141 well not exactly. He made the best decisions he could based on the information he was provided. Luck makes or breaks all us. Had his first job not fired him and instead promoted him and paid for his moving expenses, this would be a very different story. Had his vehicles been cars that never die, the outcome would be different. It isn't his fault. This is the reality we currently live in. Could anyone have done it better based on the information he had at the time? Probably not. There are few choices in most cases. Bad employers control our fortunes.

      I agree. The important point there is that finances should be tought because it's not at all. My grandparents were pretty good with money but the lessons I learned from watching them don't really work today. And your other point I've touched on in the videos, that I did everything "right" and it still didn't work for me.

    • @TheMarkGoudy
      @TheMarkGoudy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I only partially agree. It's not being sick and tired of being broke. It's sick and tired of doing everything right and it not working out for you. You have to be stubborn enough to stop doing what you've always thought to be right and do what actually works for you.

      A large part of it is furniture which I will probably sell. There's also a lot of school papers that I'll give to my fraternity's test bank. Once the furniture is gone, I can at least downsize to a smaller one.
      I had planned to make a video about it this summer but I haven't had a car to get there and I've been working all the time. I am thinking of telling about how it got the way it is, show a fast-motion video of me organizing it, and then show off interesting things I find while I'm doing it.

    You should open up a Poshmark account for clothing you're not wearing to make a little extra money. When you upload, it tells you exactly how much you earn from each piece once you put in how much you want for it. Users pay shipping and you can get free priority mail boxes from the postal office so you don't have to buy shipping supplies. I haven't made a ton off of mine, but a decent amount, also it's a great source to buy clothing that's still in great condition for some pretty cheap prices. I know, me personally, would be interested in buying some of your used clothing (you had a good style). Please link it if you decide to open one up, I'd be interested.

      I've never heard of it. I used to be a Power Seller on eBay. I've sold some clothes on there.
      I made an account but it will probably be a long time before I'm able to put anything up there. Just busy. But I do have a few boxes of clothes from college I don't or can't wear. Mostly Express, Ruehl, American Eagle. Does it send you a notification when I add an item?
      Also, I appreciate you saying I had good style (I did when I could afford to buy clothes) but what makes you say that?

      @@TheMarkGoudy It will send a notification when you add something as long as the person is following you (which I just did). What is the old car? You might have a goldmine of parts sell immediately for cash. No experience needed if the car has parts folks want to buy.

    • @TheMarkGoudy
      @TheMarkGoudy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      2007 Subaru Legacy. If I do sell it, it'd be worth more as parts BUT I could also get rid of the new car to get rid of that car payment. There's a few other factors that are making me hold onto it.

    • @mostlyends
      @mostlyends 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@TheMarkGoudy wow! That cat is worth A LOT of money in parts. Even more if it was here in Colorado. I'm selling parts off of my old 2001 Subaru Outback right now. All I do is take pictures and post them on Craigslist. I let folks come take off what they want. Some parts are very expensive, so I charge about what they are listed for on eBay. The rest of the parts I list according to prices provided by a local pick and pull salvage yard. It takes some time and you need a place for the car to sit while people get parts. However, a 2007 is fairly new. So a lot of folks may want the car as it sits. I would venture to say you could get 2000 or more for parts. The longer the car sits, the more it will cost to get it back on the road because tires, hoses, and belts for and fluids go bad.

No wonder we have so much private debt. I don't understand why he would move 3 hours away at his own expense for a low wage job while in school. That doesn't make financial sense.

    Hi Mark, are you planning on staying at Target long-term? I had a co-worker a few years back who told me that she herself used to be a manager at Target and she was making about 62k a year. She became a manager at her store after just a few years of working there. I know it sounds like a long time to wait around for but maybe with time you grow within the company and make a whole lot more money instead of jumping from job to job for whatever reason. Just a thought.

    • @TheMarkGoudy
      @TheMarkGoudy  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm planning to stay through the end of the year, probably not long after that. I've had some problems with scheduling which is messing up my life.
      About 6 months out of college I went through the interview process to be an ETL. That's basically the assistant store manager. I did 7 interviews and then heard nothing more. It doesn't make sense to stay there that long hoping they'll promote you when they hire for upper management positions straight out of college with no experience. Just apply for what you want. Although I do have a GSA or GSTL who has been here for over 10 years and worked his way up from Cashier. No idea why he's let it take that long.
      Anyway, I have no desire to work there any longer than I have to. It's just something easy that I can do to balance out the down times with Lyft. Depending on how long it takes to start making real money here on youtube, i may be able to quit sooner than later. I make about $100/month on youtube and $800/month at target, but that's also only doing maybe 5 hours for youtube a month and 80 hours/month for Target, so at some point it will make sense to quit Target and use that time on TH-cam.

      I really appreciate that! TH-cam really is the key to me becoming financially stable and being happy with what I do. I usually do record at home although it's a struggle to time the natural lighting. I do have to film the budget reviews at the library because I have to have internet to see the site while I'm recording. I usually upload at either the library or Starbucks. McDonald's as a last resort.
