There were three destroyers, the Pringle, the Halford and the Stevens who were converted to carry a float plane. The Pringle's derrick was poorly designed and after launch could not recover the aircraft. The Stevens was able to launch and recover an aircraft. However a destroyer is unstable and would have difficulty launching and recovering aircraft in even moderate weather that wouldn't affect a battleship or cruiser. With all the other ship types (Carriers, Cruisers and Battleships) able to launch and recover aircraft without all the attendant problems of a destroyer, the experiment was considered pointless and all three ships were quickly returned to a standard Fletcher configuration.
tbh I agree with you as that what the Halford was in real life. The experiment failed and all 3 were converted back into Fletchers regaining their missing turret and torpedo rack.
I’m done with wargaming. I stopped playing the game for a month, came back to see if subs and the rest of this BS was any better and it is nothing but worse. I’ve already purchased a new game to replace this and I’m waiting for it to drop in September between now and then I’ll fill my time with other activities but it’s clear wargaming has no interest in making things better for long time players that have spent plenty of money on the game over the years. I don’t know what Content creators like yourself we’re going to do unless you plan on re-tooling your content so it appeals to the dbag new players they are trying to attract at half the rate existing players would have stayed had they not implemented these bad decisions. It’s not like it takes a business genius to figure out a cost less to retain current players and attract new ones.

With DD nowaday, it either camp behind friendlies or yoloing and die in the first few minute of the match. This is what happen when you have a game whose playerbase has becomes increasingly less skilled and the dev keeps sabotaging their game with broken mechanic & "Pay-to-win" equipments... Beside, who need a DD when Sub can does a DD job much better and safer
DD's have to play more cautiously these days. There are so many planes, & so much radar, & sub spotting. You barely have any concealment in a DD anymore.
In my opinion Tiny Tims are suited for large cruisers or bbs. They have long aiming time (useless to strike dds), but damage, pen and fire chance are VERY GOOD. Use them to spot for the team. When you see a suitable target that uses dmg con, it's a free 5k average and a bonus fire. Fun fact: if you proc CONFEDERATE with Halsey and you have half hp with AR, you can be a smoked cv with continuos strikes on the enemy (+ torps if they try to rush you) :D
If no CVs in play, I'll use my hybrid planes to simply spot the DDs and hope my team shoots. Even if not a lot of dmg done, I find I can often use the spotting for area denial against dds. All that said, on bigger ships, it feels more functional. As a dd, I don't feel there's a lot of time in a match where I'd want to be idle tho. We will see
Just as a bonus comentary, Tiny Tims were always intended to hit big targets, Lex and Midway could aways chose between normal rockets or TTs. It's been awhile since I grinded the line but iirc since lex has fewer planes rockets are a viable option, but midway tiny's are better because against dds you HE dive drop them
Yeah iv always felt like the Tiny Tims are BUILT for hunting Capital ships, Enemy Carriers, Battleships, Battle Cruisers, Heavy Cruisers. All depends on their Deck armor really.
Plane spotting can make it difficult for enemy DD’s to play against this thing, but the plane health is so low that it doesn’t really work for long. Most DD AA guns can make short work of the rocket planes. Also, the rockets get 2 charges I think. They reload independent of each other and if you don’t launch planes for like 2mon, you can get 2 instant rocket charges.
It looks like introduction of support CVs, those with smoke, still will be doing spotting. Whats worst, if any general ban of certain class(CVs for example) from any kind of battle, then these hybrids can still make unfair advantage for team which gets them matchmade to the team. Reminds me how regularly you see 3 Schliffen (for example) in one team, while other team is not having them, even they are not in division and no similar torpedo/secondaries BB in another team there. I just hope it gets either really balanced or fixed somehow. Reminds me playing A. VParseval in ranked, spotting enemy Mogador, otherwise very strong DD, I made him tough and short life, the guy complaining soundly. I took it as duty for our team, although I managed do him just 8K dmg, the rest did team with focused fire. And even my otherwise low HP planes were enough to stay within his weak AA. I think it was kind rock paper scissors. If I was left alone against him, the luck would probably moved to his side. Btw I noticed Auction craziness the minimum prices for these things, even Jolly Roger flag was payed with great surplus of steel, xd.
Fun Fact: Despite what Wargaming would have you believe (They screwed the flavor text SO HARD), they did take the catapult off and put the 5th turret on before these ships shipped off to the Pacific. "This ship is pretty weak" Well they made it a coal ship (i was surprised too) so that says something. Its a INTERESTING ship to be sure and a neat piece of history, but in game its like "oh no another Hybrid ship, wo is us." Would it KILL Wargaming to make it so plane spotting is JUST on the mini map like those first 5 seconds of Radar or Sub surface finder works.
I'm a very casual player and I enjoy playing the unique stuff. I can see why some of the more dedicated players or competitive players hate this, but damn does this look fun lol.
Nice video and spot on with your reservations PQ, just imagine getting this ship div'd up with a kearsarge or BB/cv hybrid or two... and then having 0 "hybrids" on your team , nice an balanced.. lost a few battles against only kearsarges in a div while being the sole remaining dd when all i had to do was run away and win.. could not run anywhere since cv/ hybrid BB know when they are spotted flying their planes... Broken AF imho.. and then not even mentioning the fact BB or this thing can still shoot when the planes are ready with striking their target.. 0 real counterplay....
I mean it would be cool to see the Historically accurate Japanese Submarine that could launch 3 bombers from its deck. it was a design early on in the war, that didn't see the light as it didn't come to fruition till the end of the war when it was no longer viable. but a sub with planes in the game would be pretty annoying but the sub would be on the surface whille the planes are in the air

The halford sounds more like the Sherman than fletcher, but I think both use fletcher as a base. Same torps and guns...just launcher on the back for the torps, rather than fixed launchers at the front.
More than likely not, if her sisters are any indication. Their guns are extremely floaty and at range they are pain. Unless they were willing to change that and make her a sniper of sorts.
The Tromp already got airstrikes, so it was only a matter of time. IMO a DD has to play close to the Reds, and controlling planes becomes a distraction.

There are so many fletchers in this game that you should make a single vide about all of them lol (fletcher, black, velos, chung mu, etc...) and speak briefly about them like a couple minutes for a single ship

I'd say tromp is stronger. The planes don't deal enough damage ti make up for the loss in range, DPM, and torpedo tubes. You are a dd that is made to roam and provide spotting that is it. You would have more fun in a torp boat.
@nanowarrior01 they buffed it a lot since I made this comment. It's WAY stronger. The airstrikes reach out to 12km instead of the 10km it used to be, plus they made it's torps hit much harder. Halford is still pretty bad, you just lose everything that would make a dd useful for the ability to send planes. You have poor concealment, speed, and firepower.
I feel like this is countered pretty easily if your team needs you to win a fight on a flank or counter enemy DDs in the early game. A Marceau can just just eat your planes and then poke you full of holes
Yeah I'm glad I uninstalled, this is absurd. DDs are about sneaking around each other not just randomly getting to spot the enemy for a minute whenever you feel like it. This would pair with smoking DD div absurdly. Get a div sitting in smoke that can shoot anything in range due to the planes. Having a DD with planes is the same as when one team loses their DDs and can't stop spotting.
That would be pretty interesting to be honest. Given the American Ballistics though the spotter might not be grate but hay, it can spot things while your hiding in smoke so thats something.
Fixing AA on all ships would even out the game, and let CV take fire damage (in WW2 most damage to ships was FIRE damage, otherwise they will continue to lose player base with pay to win strategy.
This is why i think they need to make changes to plane spotting. The planes should not give full spotting to the entire team, it should highlight the ship on the mini map like a cyclone does, and only the carrier or the ship flying the planes can see the ship its shooting at, i don't think it should spot for the entire team. This would help to eliminate the OP spotting that carriers bring, and its a move towards something more realistic, being a plane would radio back the general location of what they are seeing to the carrier, not that WG is realistic any more. I will say, the introduction and the fact that WG is working on new support carriers is the final nail in the coffin of a dying game for me. I dont think i will be playing it much longer, if at all.
The issue here, is the spotting. It’s BS. When most ships can barely shoot 1 plane out of a flight of attack craft, it’s ridiculous. The more planes that get added to this game, the more they kill it.
At this point, I wouldn't be surprised to see modernized Iowa class battleships with tomahawk cruise missiles and VLS systems (with cwis to shoot down anything inbound) come into game if they're willing to let a destroyer yeet out 4 planes. Hell might as well go with a type 055 or AB flight 3 and just full send it. Mostly just a warship history enthusiast, and I understand games aren't meant to be super realistic, but even from game balancing this seems pretty insane. Regardless pq, love the content and respect the skill sets you've developed over the years. Keep at it fam

They used the Origami technique to fit all those planes onto that Destroyer.

The brief time I tried carriers that's what I did. Find the DDs and circle until they died. Eliminate the biggest threats to the team for free.

I found it impossible to rocket a strong stealth DD because once spoted it has already overrun the target.
